Torture News Strike

Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer
Kansas City Star
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News

On 4/11/08, George Bush told ABC News he personally approved of the approval of torture - including waterboarding - by Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell and George Tenet.

Bush said, "Yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved."

You would think a President confessing to war crimes would be on the front pages of all the nation's newspapers, and all over their editorial pages - not just on Countdown and The Daily Show.

You'd be wrong. The only newspapers that have covered the story are in the box on the right.

Is your newspaper missing from this list? Then let's work together to do something about it.

We're calling this action our "Torture News Strike."

Call the Editor of your local newspaper and tell him/her you are suspending your subscription until they give Bush's torture confession the serious coverage it deserves either in the news or editorial section, or preferably both.

If you get home delivery, then call the circulation department and tell them to suspend delivery until further notice. (If you buy at the newsstands, read something else.)

Stop waiting for the MSM to print or air the truth.

Get your news from those who are willing to give their time and their energies to the single cause of exposing the media for the corporate stooges they are.

We are a non profit, all volunteer site.....and we had this story the day it broke...along with every other major story that the networks and the print media refuse to expose.

Take a look and see for yourself:

Torture makes it to the MSM

Jessie from tvnewslies is a super reporter and always is many jumps ahead of the MSM. But today, there was an editorial in the NYTimes about Bush's admission and the players involved. Check it out...nytimes.com AND, the front page had a very good investigative piece about the "Military Machines", former career high-ups who shilled (and profited from)re:the Pentagon's rosy view of the Iraq war.

Many of us have known about these criminal acts from alternative news websites and overseas newspaper accounts. But it was refreshing to see the pencil sharpened at the NYTimes.

Any other sightings of reality hitting the presses?

Cowardly Democrats - Case in Point, Sen. Feinstein

Today, after receiving a response from Senator Feinstein to my petition signature & cry for impeachment of Condi Rice, Bush & Cheney, I wrote the following. Her missive of bland assurances & toady posturing to which I replied, follows.

Senator Feinstein:

The country IS divided! Which side will you join - those who seek renewal of our democratic Constitutional liberties or despots who have stripped the Bill of Rights, promoted torture, lied in order to illegally invade a foreign state, conducted repeated government invasions of citizen privacy, exercised blatant malfeasance, destroyed the environment, bankrupted the economy, and arbitrarily usurped power via exercise of Executive Orders?

The time for courage and bold action is now. Each day you delay in supporting impeachment is one more period of cowardly acquiescence to a tyranny we have not seen on this continent since time of King George III. This administration has engaged in gross atrocities and you blithely suggest that it is acceptable because you believe the American people don’t want to engage in “partisan politics!”

How blind or morally bankrupt can you be? Newsflash: contrary to your complacent belief in bipartisan unity, the American people elected the Democratic Congress to in fact engage in partisan politics! We wanted you Democrats to counter the “long train of abuses” enacted upon us by the G.O.P. You have failed us. Do not prolong this failure!

Your “deep disappointment” at the Bush administration is laughable, and FYI: there can be no “constructive cooperation” with a criminal regime such as this. Has history taught you nothing? In the 1930s, such behavior was aptly termed “appeasement.”

Do not further disgrace yourself, your office, the Democratic Party, and the American people with your “politics as usual” sophistry and disgraceful appeasement. Show some spine. Support impeachment of these foes of American Constitutional Democracy. Fight for us or relinquish your seat, period!

Dear Mr. Ruha:

Thank you for your letter concerning impeachment proceedings against President Bush. I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.

In our recent elections, the American people expressed clear disapproval with the path this country was on. They are tired of partisan politics and of an Administration that pays little heed to the wishes of the American people. They want-and deserve-a Congress that holds the Administration accountable and fulfills its Constitutional responsibility to check and balance the Executive. I share this sentiment and am determined to work hard and across party lines in the United States Senate to promote issues that are of real concern to most Americans, including the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, homeland security, global warming, and lobbying and election reform.

At this time, however, I believe that impeachment proceedings against President Bush will only divide the country even further, frustrating our hopes for a meaningful change in direction, while having little chance of success.

I have been deeply disappointed by many of this Administration's actions and have been outspoken in those instances. Nevertheless, given the challenges our country faces I believe that we need to focus on constructive and cooperative steps that would lead us in the right direction.

Again, thank you for your continued correspondence. If you have any further questions or comments, please contact my office in Washington, D.C. at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Sen Feinfstein's response

Senator Feinstein is on board with the Leaders of the Democratic Congress. He does't care about what is still being done to our country and the American people. His only concern is in line with all other congressman who won't support impeachment. They had rather have the president issue pardons to everyone involved in his adminstration's criminal acts on our country, constitution, and the people. They don't seem to understand that doing the will of our constitution, and the American people will get more Democrates elected, than continuing to do nothing but stand by and wait and HOIPE things will go their way. In the meantime, this adminstration is being given the freedom to continue their actions status quo.
It appears that COMMON SENSE is in very short supply when it comes to our Democratic Leadership. It's very simple to see that they are not listening to the people. It's easy to see that, their goal is their personal goals, not the American People.
Some don't even understand the oath they took when they were elected. I would recommend to each of these people to study up on what the term 'DEFEND" actually means with reference to their job as electe3d representatives by " THE PEOPLE".
"Personally, This leadership has been nothing short of a disgrace to me and my expections of what they promised.

Uh, if you'll note, the name

Uh, if you'll note, the name is Sen. Dianne Feinstein, as in "she."

Amnesty for those that opposed

To whom it may concern,

If we demand the prosecution of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and other cronies on the basis of war crimes, ought we not also at least demand the release, pardon and amnesty of those who stood, in the face of public rage, opposed to this damned war? Those who refused to fight, were the real patriots who are as much deserving of a medal. If we say that they should have followed orders, then we should apologize to those tried in Nuremberg who followed orders under Hitler's command.
