Today is Warrantless Wiretapping Filibuster Day

Update: Reid put the bill on hold until January. Your calls and emails won the fight for now, but we'll have to gear up for another battle then...

Today is the day Senator Chris Dodd is leading his long-promised filibuster against immunity for the telecomm giants that have illegally wiretapped all of our calls and emails since 2001.

If you like Big Brother (or what Glenn Greenwald calls the Lawless Surveillance State), do nothing.

If you prefer Freedom, visit Dodd's special filibuster site and call, fax, and email your Senators.

Latest news: Dodd to Speak on the Floor at 11 AM

Following Senator Dodd's speech there will be a cloture vote on the motion to proceed to the Intelligence Committee version of FISA legislation. After that vote Senator Dodd will be holding a press conference to talk about how he will continue to fight against retroactive immunity and stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Please note - this is all going to take place ahead of a filibuster, which is expected to start later today.

tramatized

I have been listening to C-span all day and I have had a revelation. For years I have been baffled wondering just who of us Americans was so frightened they they are willing to allow torcher, illegal spying on us Americans, loss of habeas corpus, renditions, and suddenly I knew.
When the Senator from Maryland (Murksey?) stood up and told us all how frightened they (congress) was during 9/11 I finally realized who the cowards are. It is them, so when they say we need to balance carefully between civil liberties and protection from terrorists. We need to hear "we have to balance the importance of Americans civil liberties against keeping us in the Senate safe". And we all know how that ended up. The traumatized cowards need to go home and hide under their beds and let hero's take their places. Think how many young men and women have died in Iraq because of their cowardice.
We need to vote them all into a retirement community, sing sing works for me, and then elect new leaders.

exactly right

and the story that is always forgotten is the Anthrax attack on the offices of Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle and Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy.

That brought terror right to the heart of the Democratic Party. Isn't it amazing the terrorists were never found?

How predictable was

it that the BA either were/was totally inept or that they planned and carried it out. How else is the curious mind to interpret 911? It is hard for some to believe that the BA is so stupid? It is no wonder that so many ppl believe that the 911 attacks were assisted by the BA? The choices are intentional [like the PNAC report suggests] or a bunch of mormons are running our country.

No I don't mean that I think they planned it, but I don't think that they could create a soup sandwich.

Anthrax...they needed to frighten the Dems into going along with their plans. What better way than to product a frightening attack that was personal against the opposition?
