Purpose: Discussion, Education and Participation. Take the opportunity to be heard (open mic) by staff of state and federal representatives and fellow community members. Join us in looking a the costs of the Iraq war from a local perspective! The representatives are attending because they want to know your thoughts.

Join Shoreline college students in taking the lead on participatory democracy!

Town Hall Event Planning - Get U.S. Out of Iraq

When: Wednesday May 17, 2008, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The organizing committee for the Town Hall Event: Get U.S. Out of Iraq, would like to invite organizations to both attend and/or participate in event organization.

Our goal is to get attention focused on additional funding of the Iraq war before the burden to human resources in our military, impacts to U.S. and Iraqi families, and pillaging of our financial coffers gets further out of control.

We have requested input from Darcy Burner and General Paul Eaton because they are both contributors to: “A Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq.” This report is a realistic engagement of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group (the Baker-Hamilton Commission) findings to which they added a proposed implementation strategy.

Plans for the event have yet to be finalized, but for now we anticipate having our speakers discuss the Plan, and hear intentions for Plan implementation and invoking supporting legislation. Beyond the speakers we currently have committed, including date, time, and facility, we have yet to consider additional speakers or agenda so there is room for input.

We will be focusing on our message of: "Getting U.S. Out of Iraq;" Darcy Burner will be a featured speaker, but we are not directly focusing on the Burner campaign beyond what she will do with her Plan. However, we intend to appeal for as much media coverage as possible.

Thousands of protesters will gather in the nation's capital from September 15th until the 21st for a massive anti-war/anti-occupation mobilization. The Petraeus Report is scheduled to be released at this time and Congress will be taking up the bill authorizing billions more to prolong this tragic war. This week of action will be launched with a huge march from the White House to the Congress on the 15th. For those of you whose hearts and souls will be in D.C. but bodies are stuck in the other Washington, please join together with others who share your outrage at this administration, the lack of accountability, and the inability of Congress to put the brakes on their violations of the Constitution and total disregard for human rights and the rule of law. Bring signs, attitude, friends, family, and a peaceful countenance. It's time to answer their surge with a surge of our own. We'll have impeachment packets available for distribution. If you are suffering from insomnia induced by the threat of U.S. led acts of aggression against Iran, pour some of that pre-dawn angst into a sign addressing that very issue. July 23rd is the fifth anniversary of the Downing Street Meeting, the meeting at which the head of British intelligence reported that Bush and Cheney were intent on invading Iraq and were going to "fix the intelligence and facts around the policy." This July 23rd will be the culmination of a march/drive led by Cindy Sheehan and others from Bush's hometown of Crawford, Texas to Washington, D.C. where Cindy Sheehan will visit Congressman John Conyers and ask that impeachment be put back on the table. If Speaker Pelosi still refuses to endorse impeachment, then Cindy Sheehan will announce her candidacy for Speaker Pelosi's seat in the House of Representatives. Let's come to the corners of this busy intersection and show our support to those who are working so hard to restore justice and rule of law to this nation and incorporate compassion and human rights into our foreign and domestic policies.
