CALIFORNIA IRAQ TOWN HALLS

In a nation opposed to the occupation of Iraq, the opposition party is preparing to shell out another $102 billion of our grandchildren's money to continue it. Our nation has come so far in seven years that the president and vice president openly admit to authorizing torture in blatant violation of the Eighth Amendment, longstanding US laws and treaties, and new legislation signed into law by the same president. Yet our representatives in Congress refuse to hold impeachment hearings. The wealthiest nation on earth cannot provide health care to its citizens. Where are our priorities?

All over the country, citizens are holding public town hall meetings to discuss this question. You can find one near you or get involved in planning one at:

Here are three coming up in California:

VENTURA / OJAI ON APRIL 22

election fraud

Stay informed about voting system fraud folks! Here is the latest on a long list of stories about the problem. The solution is to ban all electronics from vote counting. We need to return to hand counted paper ballots, counted in full public view at the precinct on election day.

Paper "trails" on voting machines are of no use as they are not ballots that are actually counted. Electronic optical scanners can also be hacked as was shown in the Emmy nominated documentary "Hacking Democracy".

Vote by mail is risky because there is no clear chain of custody of the ballots.

McConnell Should Honor King With Deeds, Not Talking Points

I was visiting my Senator, "Boss" Mitch McConnell's website earlier, and came across his release on the anniversery of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder. It was elegant but ironic. I would like to share some of the release from McConnell's site with you.

Here is what the senior Senator from Kentucky had to say about Dr. King:

“The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had his own thoughts on how he wanted to be remembered. In a famous sermon at Ebeneezer Baptist Church, he once spoke about ‘The Drum Major Instinct’— the desire in everyone to lead the band, to be up front, to seek the praise.

“He said even he could be guided by the ‘Drum Major Instinct’ — but that he had tried to put it to a better use. ‘If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,’ he said. ‘Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness.’
