New Forum Nodes - Reminder

As a guideline to our many new members, and a reminder to our long-standing members, Democrats.com asks that you only post one "new" forum node per day (24-hour period). This policy gives all members the time needed to read, digest, and comment on new nodes. This policy is not strictly enforced, but when a member shows a tendency to post several new nodes daily, several times a week, their nodes will begin to be unpublished. If that is not enough of a "hint," then the member may be changed to a "comment only" status. New nodes which are just a "copy" of a news article, should be restricted to no more than four paragraphs of quoted material, with a link to the quoted source.

Education

I do not understand why no one is pointing out the fact that McCain graduated at the bottom of his class? Bush is a C average student and look where it's taken us! McCain graduated 755 out of 800! He may even be a D student. This alone should be reason not to vote him in as President...hell when one applies to any decent job, education is one thing that is most definitely scrutinized, so why should it be any less scrutinized when the applicant is running for the Presidency of these here United States of America? I do not understand why this is not at the top of the list when it comes to this particular job. We have endured eight long years with a man that doesn't like to read, and proudly says so all the time. No more morons at the helm, please?

Hi, I'm new here

I just wanted to say hello and try to get to know everyone here.  My name is Nalini and I'm sick of Bush....do I have any new friends?

"Same Old Washington Politics"

August 18, 2008

Monday night, John McCain is holding a fundraiser with Ralph Reed, an ally of jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff. McCain's investigation of Abramoff contributed to Reed losing his election for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. Last week the Democratic National Committee put out a web ad highlighting the Abramoff connection.

Now Barack Obama's campaign is jumping on the story. "The old John McCain wouldn't have allowed one of Jack Abramoff's top cronies to raise money for him," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor. "But this time around, it's clear that Senator McCain is willing to do whatever it takes to win-even if that means embracing President Bush's policies, his tactics, and now his disgraced fundraisers. The American people want a real change, not the same old Washington politics that Jack Abramoff and Ralph Reed perfected."

Peace Vigil - Marietta GA every Friday noon til one

Having recently moved to Marietta GA I was pleasantly surprised to hear about a brave group of people who have been standing at the Marietta square every Friday at noon for a peace vigil. These people should be applauded and supported for doing what they can to raise awareness about issues that we face because of the needless and senseless decision our leaders have taken to occupy another country.

Cobb county is not exactly what one would call progressive so you can imagine that these people who have stood on the square for five and a half years have shown immense character to get their message across.

I have recently moved here and now spend my Friday lunch hour (when I can) standing with these great people.

We could really use some support. Let's give them our support by showing up on any Friday that you can at the Marietta square. Bring a sign and a smile and a great attitude. It would be greatly appreciated.

Did McCain lie?

McCain's ability to stay on topic and answer questions quickly and concisely really surprised me at the Saddleback Church the other night, now I think I know why he was so well prepared.

Did McCain Cheat At Saddleback?

On Meet the Press yesterday, NBC's Andrea Mitchell stated, "The Obama people must feel that he didn't do quite as well as they might have wanted to in that context, because what they are putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well-prepared."

McCain, who was supposed to be in a "cone of silence," while Obama was being questioned by Rev. Rick Warren, was not where Warren thought he was and "wasn't in a cone of silence," according to the New York Times.

Live Blog with Progressive Congressional Candidate Tuesday

Roy Carter, U.S. Congressional candidate endorsed by Democracy for America, will be taking part in a live blog on DFA’s Blog for America on Tuesday August 12, at 6:00 pm EST.

Roy will be giving updates from his historic progressive campaign in the Bible Belt’s heartland of conservatism, which has pitted a forty year high school science teacher, football coach and tree farmer, and a man who built his own house four different times, against corrupt right-wing extremist millionaire Virginia Foxx, who lives in a gated resort community on the edge of the district and has all the CEOs of Big Oil in her phone's "Fav Five."

Democratic Convention

I recently spoke to a friend of mine who is going to the convention as a Clinton delegate. She said that the Obama campaign is trying to keep her name(Hillary Clinton) off of the nomination list on the opening day of the Convention. As a Hillary supporter, there are 18 million of us out here, it is wrong to break with the tradition of our Democratic Convention by not allowing her name to be on the nomination list. She fought the good fight and won a substantial number of delegates. I realize that Obama will get the nomination but it does nothing to unify the party if you slight the person who came the closest. It serves no pupose and threatens to fracture our party at a time when we can ill afford to be fractured. We have a long and hard road to the White House and the DNC will need Hillary supporters to be as passionate about supporting Obama as we were in our support for her. I never spoke ill of Obama while those two fought for the nomination.
