The Pit Bull Wears Prada

NBC’s Campbell Brown expressed her view that women are held to a double standard in response to media reports that the Republican National Committee spent upwards of $150,000 to outfit Sarah Palin while she is on the campaign trail plugging the McCain-Palin economic plan.

The “plan” so far as we can read from McCain's latest campaign offering, says he wants to create job opportunities for Americans. No mention of how these “opportunities” will be created nor of tax cuts for the middle class. The only plan is the same as the $1.35 trillion tax cut for those that Bush pushed through in his first term for the wealthiest 1% of the population. Both McCain and Bush want to make those tax cuts and others that were rammed through a Republican-controlled congress over two years ago permanent.

Campbell Brown‘s claim of a double standard for women has now been elevated by Sarah Palin as media bias against her. Well, boohoo, here we go again with that dreadful “Librul” media whine. Brown ignores the fact that McCain-Palin are trying to foist themselves off as ordinary working people like Joe the Plumber, who incidentally owes back taxes and is not even a licensed plumber.

The Bush regime looked the other way while the corporate thieves and swindlers larded up their portfolios with the free money handed out by the likes of Feeding Chairman Ben Bernanke and his sidekick Bush crony, Henry “you‘re doin’ a heckuva job, Hankie” Paulson. All this has occurred while the equally culpable Securities Exchange Commission head, Christopher Cox, allowed the legerdemain accounting principles which invoked the no-regulation, see-no-evil rampant greed that created the banking institution collapse, both in the United States and worldwide financial markets.

It’s true that women like Campbell Brown and men who make their sole living working before the camera must be camera-friendly and are obligated to go to great lengths to dress well, apply makeup that covers up skin blemishes and soften their appearance for public viewing. Many male jobs in the news media, by the way, have been lost to a pretty face.

But Sarah Palin must not appear to be too severe-looking as she delivers her rapier-like taunts that Barack Obama is “palling around with terrorists.” So, the decision to fork out a lavish shopping spree for Sarah Palin at exclusive stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus because, as McCain has stated, “She needs the clothes,” has brought about the GOP wrath and the claim that the media is biased.

The McCain-Palin campaign team includes chief strategist Steve Schmidt and Rick Davis who glommed onto the “maverick” label hoping that its catchy tag would distance the Republican Party candidates from G. W. Bush. Paradoxically, Bush has been the real maverick Republican over the last 8 years. He alone decided he would launch the war in Iraq ignoring his top advisers including four-star General Eric Shinseki and his Secretary of State, Colin Powell.

Bush established Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as his detention center for hundreds of Afghanis caught up in the fog of war and then decided he didn’t need a single reason not to hold them there indefinitely without specific charges. After he strong-armed his Republican-controlled U.S. Congress to pass the U.S.A. Patriot Act he interpreted that to mean that anyone he alone decided to name who is an “enemy combatant” had no rights whatsoever.

Later, Bush put a terrible and insurmountable burden on the U.S. military officers to conduct “trials” under the aegis of the Military Commissions Act, virtually establishing an executive-decreed justice system totally outside and independent of the laws of the U.S. Constitution. You can’t get much more mavericky than that!

Why would Americans want four more years of self-described mavericks, McCain-Palin who, based on their current campaign dysfunction, would continue go-it-alone, unilateral policies unaccountable to anyone? John McCain, in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate, signaled to the American people he has no interest in bipartisanship.

Palin is everything the right wing extremists could have dreamed for. She’s anti choice, pro teaching of creation science/intelligent design in public school science classes and has zero qualifications on foreign policy unless you believe being able to see Russia across the Bering Strait from an island off the Alaska coast is a foreign policy credential.

According to John McCain, Sarah Palin has more expertise on energy matters than anyone in America. If so, why wasn’t her special energy knowledge tapped into by petroleum engineers, geologists and Bush’s Department of Energy experts years ago?

Also, John McCain is on record in several interviews and speeches telling the American people he can capture Osama bin Laden, that he knows how to do it and will do it. Why, with all this critical information and knowledge, does he not share this with the American people now? Why is he withholding this information until after Election Day? Will he still reveal that essential knowledge with our nation which is in two wars even if he and Sarah Palin aren’t elected? Inquiring minds want to know.

McCain in his zeal to bulk up his right wing bona fides totally sold out to the narrow, dogmatic views of people like Focus on the Family head, James Dobson, Family Research Council head Tony Perkins, fire-breathing religionists like mega church Pastors John Hagee and Rod Parsley and doomsday prognosticators like Wiley Drake who prayed that Barack Obama’s Democratic Party presidential acceptance speech in Denver, Colorado Invesco Field would be rained out.

Sarah Palin, self-described pit bull in lipstick, may think she needs stylish, high society clothes to speak (and wink) to ordinary working folks like Joe Sixpack and Joe the Plumber in order to get their votes but I doubt if most hockey moms can afford such opulent tastes.

One job that will provide security, at least for two months after November 4, will be the one that Sam the Shredder will have when the Bush mob tries to destroy all evidence of their astounding eight years of a failed and dysfunctional administration.

The majority of pro America voters have had a bellyful of the current Maverick-In-Chief, G. W. Bush. All the major polls reveal that four more years of the double-down mavericks, John McCain and Sarah Palin, would be unbearable.
