The Real McCain

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1.
McCain admittedly traded "military information... for better medical treatment... McCain as a member of the 1992 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, took the lead in demanding a U.S. Justice Department investigation of the POW/MIA activists and their organizations that were critical of him. McCain openly attacked the POW/MIA activists telling the press, "The people who have done these things are not zealots in a good cause. They are the most craven, most cynical and most despicable human beings to ever run a scam." The Justice Department did investigate the POW/MIA activists and their organizations and found no reason to charge any POW/MIA activist. McCain's use of the words craven, despicable and scam are mighty powerful and poisonous words because: While a POW McCain admitted to trading "military information" to his communist captors in exchange for better medical treatment.

2. McCain is more hawkish than Bush or Cheney
on Iraq, Russia and China, according to Bloomberg News. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi." McCain boldly declares he doesn't give a damn how long U.S. troops are deployed in Iraq, "The United States military could stay in Iraq for "maybe a hundred years" and that "would be fine with me(states McCain), and U.S. troops could be in Iraq for "a thousand years" or "a million years."

3. McCain endorses torture and criminal abuse of war detainees.

While a POW McCain admitted to trading "military information" to his communist captors in exchange for better medical treatment.

4. John McCain is a bigot and racist. McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," (John McCain constantly flip flops on issues and legislation) yet he has continued to oppose key civil rights laws.

5. McCain rated as the worst senator in Congress for children
by the Chidrens Defense Fund. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill. McCain will continue to fund a futile war effort at the expense of caring for American children's health and well being.

6. McCain is one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires.
The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations. McCain divorced the wife that stood by him while he was a POW, after she became crippled in an accident and married a much younger rich heiress. Cindy Hensley McCain while president of a charitable organization got caught stealing drugs from that charity. Cindy Hensley McCain's theft, use and abuse of drugs went on for over two years!

7. McCain is erratic, hotheaded and can not control his temper.
Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

8. McCain has more lobbyists raising money and more ties to special interest group contributors than any previous candidate for president. While McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates. McCain as one of the "Keating 5" received more bribe money from Keating, his family and employees than any other senator and took 9 trips at Keating's expense.

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."

10. McCain is an environmental nightmare
, consistently voting to destroy our environment and deplete our nation's natural resources. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0-yes, zero-from the League of Conservation Voters last year.

For three years Cindy Hensley McCain abused drugs and even resorted to stealing drugs from her own charitable organization. McCain, because of his own political problems, failed to recognize his wife's addiction and his refusal to take action, resulted in her parents staging an intervention to force her to get help.
  • McCain one of the Keating 5 accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. McCain received the most bribe money from Keating and Keating's relatives and employees, more than any of the other Senators, $112,000 out of the $300,000 collective total. McCain also made at least nine trips at Keating's expense.
  • McCain had conflicts with higher-ups while at the Naval Academy and graduated near the bottom of his class. McCain graduated in 1958 from the Naval Academy with almost the worst class ranking (894/899) despite having a grandfather and father as Navy Admirals.
  • McCain's skill and judgement is questionable, in his pre-combat carreer McCain survived two crashes including a collision with power lines. McCain was also at the epicenter of the USS Forrestal fire, McCain was able to escape but a bomb from his burning jet exploded, that accident left 134 sailors dead and took 24 hours to control. The aircraft carrier USS Forrestal had to be taken out of commission. McCain was promoted and escaped investigations, despite his poor pilot skills and lack of judgement, only because of the influence of his Admiral father and grandfather. McCain has a record of breaking down under pressure and a lack of judgement under stressful situations.
