Primary Against Joe Donnelly (IN-02)

EVENTS

VENUE:

207 West Colfax Avenue
South Bend, IN 46601

starts: 09/09/2008 - 12:25am

On 5/10/07, Rep. Joe Donnelly betrayed the voters and troops of Indiana's 2nd Congressional District by voting to continue George Bush's disastrous Iraq War forever.

Democrats.com is looking for an "aggressive progressive" Democrat who will challenge Donnelly in a Democratic primary in 2008.

My current opinion of Mr. Donnelly

I was starting to get very disappointed by the inaction of our so-called new congress. After contacting Mr. Donnelly several times at his offices in South Bend and D.C., and by e-mail, I was a little disappointed that he never even responded to an e-mail.

My first contact was while the FISA was on the Senate Floor, I phoned and e-mailed, thanking him for not buckling to Administration pressure in regards to telcom immunity. (Interesting note: on that Senate vote, Obama voted for an amendment denying telcom immunity while billary didn't vote.)

I didn't really think the bill would be coming back to the House and that there would be an historic 'secret session'. What ticked me off was I also called Lugar and Bayh with my respectful opinion. Lugar wrote me back, at least giving me his opinion, and him and Bayh both voted for telcom immunity.

I continued to lobby Mr. Donnelly. I told his local office that I felt the reality of the telcom issue was small potatoes, but I thought it was an important step in a bigger picture, that went hand-in-hand with this administration's attack on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I also mentioned that this was in line with the policies that led to disregard of the Geneva Conventions.

I finally recieved a response from Donnelly after I e-mailed the youTube of Abu Ghraib to his congressional e-mail account. I found Mr. Donnelly's response to be very informative. He directed me to a fiscal war support act in 2006 that lays out certain protections for detainees. Of course, that doesn't erase any impeachable offense from the Cheney record, but I was informed by this response, I am satisfied that Mr. Donnelly has voted correctly IN REGARDS to the treatment of detainees, and I was EXTREMELY PLEASED with his vote in regards to the recent House version of the FISA.

I called Donnelly's local office again, and left a message thanking him. I look forward to inviting him to a town meeting. If any of my neighbors have tough, progressive questions for Mr. Donnelly, I am sure this discourse will be healthy and enlightening for all. I would also like to invite Mr. Obama, Mr. Gravel, and Cynthia McKinney to our Town Hall Meeting.

I have some resources, but I need a 'venue' or hall / amphitheater for hosting this event. Anyone with ideas is encouraged to contact me immediately at event_audio_93@yahoo.com.

Thank you.
