Republican Dirty Tricks Begin

MINNEAPOLIS -- Remarks by top GOP officials at the Republican National Committee gathering here revealed an emerging strategy to cast doubt on particular Democratic lawmakers who would control Congress and its key committees should they attain the majority.

On one level, the aim is to cast doubt on these Democrats as incapable of keeping the country safe. Both RNC chairman Ken Mehlman today, and White House political director Sara Taylor yesterday singled out Rep. John Dingell (D) -- who "has his sights set on chairing the powerful Commerce Committee," as Taylor put it -- for recently refusing to take a stand against Hezbollah.

Lady Di,

You and I are both sick of hearing their fear mongering,
terra reports, and Democrats weak on defense.
Mealymouth Mehlman can go cheney himself.
If Condoloser Rice-A-Roni was a diplomat, she would have had
the 2sides at the table within the first few days.
Terrorism is up worldwide since Bush came to office.
The 5th anniversary of Sept 11th is next month, and we still
dont have any answers, in fact the government is trying to cover
up a lot of things, as mentioned in this weeks report on the
'non' Norad response 'tapes'.
We have invaded 2Countries that never attacked us......
Our budget deficit is the highest in history, which does affect
our national security.
Iraq is now almost a civil war, with our brave soldiers in between the whole mess.
Marines being charged in the Hadifa shootings
Guantanamo detainees being kept illegally without being charged,
causing the whole world to look at us as hipocrits.
Yes I would say that the Republican conservatives really know
how to defend this Country.....................Hurl

All really good points Wahoo

All really good points Wahoo.

One problem, we may not be typical, you and I.

Atleast 45% of us, it would seem, want to hear only bad news delivered as a bumper sticker. Most of them live in bumf*** North Dakota or Crappedon Missouri or Goosethemoose Alaska, but you just never know they might be on a terrorist hit list.

I think that it is nice to hear that the repugs are that worried, even before the primary elections, in most states. They are in trouble and they know it. Too bad for them they don't know why ;)

Our job is to pay attention to what they do and say and counter it, before it grows into a "swift boat" thing.

"Tell the Truth" About the Repug Failures. A Dirty Trick?

The Shocking Results of the Busby Election Poll Released

The following poll and the analysis of the results show what I've been advocating all along. that is that the Democrats should concentrate on the message of the failure of both the Bush and Republican domestic and foreign policies.

That includes the failure of the War in Iraq and the turmoil in the Middle East with the deaths of thousands; the nuclear threat from both North Korea and Iran; the nuclear proliferation danger of supplying our nuclear technology to India; the very real danger of the military build up of "Communist" China which threatens the stability of Asia as well as the security of Hawaii and the Mainland US; the erosion of the combat readiness of our military and national guard; the loss of the goodwill we used to have in the world community and finally the loss of our ability to be a broker for peace around the world.

I'd say that this is a foreign policy failure of gigantic proportions that may take years, if ever, for recovery.

On the Domestic front we have a huge failure in our protection of the Homeland, which includes: incompetent disaster planning and execution; unsecured borders; unsecured ports along with the foreign ownership of their facilities (The Dubai Ports Deal); the ownership of key American defense industry companies by foreign interests; the selling of much of our national strategic infrastructure to foreign companies; the privatization of much of the military and other government functions; the shameful war profiteering that is being perpetrated by American companies enabled by this Republican Administration and Congress; our failed energy policy with energy companies gouging the consumer and our failure to enforce our immigration laws.

Also the key domestic issue for the 2006 campaign should be the failed Republican and Bush Administration economic policy. The Republicans keep touting the great economic growth that is supposed to be a result of the Bush tax cuts. And they keep calling for more of the same. The economy and the tax cuts have only been "good" for the top 1% American income earners. The other 99% are either just holding their own or slipping into poverty. This is the result of the failed Free (unfair) Trade policies; the loss of key hi tech and manufacturing industries to foreign countries; the outsourcing of jobs to cheap overseas labor; a H1B visa policy that allows the importation of cheap hi tech labor into the US to take American jobs and the use of cheap illegal alien labor by corporate America to undercut the American workforce.

So we not only have a gigantic foreign policy failure by the Republicans and the Bush Administration but on the domestic side there has been an economic disaster for almost all Americans except for the wealthy and the corporate executives. And this is before we even touch on the attack by this Imperialistic Administration on our privacy, civil and human rights and the Constitution.

All these things should really give the Democrats plenty of issues to exploit in November rather than having to pussy foot around with the single issue of "the culture of corruption". So please start taking advantage of the anger that has been built up against these Republicans and the elitist Bush Administration and come up with an agenda to turn around this horror of a government with policies that emphasize "the common good" instead of the "common greed".

Investigative Poll Explains Busby Loss

Dissatisfied, Independent Swing Voters Stayed Home or
Voted for Third Parties

LOS ANGELES - The Courage Campaign (www.couragecampaign.org), a
non-partisan, progressive 527 based in Los Angeles, and MyDD (www.MyDD.com),
a political blog devoted to analysis and commentary on campaigns and
political infrastructure, announce findings today from the poll they
commissioned in California's 50th Congressional District to determine why
the national Democratic message centered on allegations of Republican
corruption failed to give Francine Busby the seat formerly occupied by
convicted felon, Randy "Duke" Cunningham. Busby lost to Republican, Brian
Bilbray in the June 6th election.

The poll was funded by grassroots activists and conducted by Wright
Consulting Services of Phoenix, AZ, surveyed Democratic, Republican and
Independent voters in the June 6th run-off as well as non-voters who
participated in either the 2003 recall election (which elected Arnold
Schwarzenegger governor) or the 2004 Presidential election. Complete poll
results are available at www.couragecampaign.org.

Results show Democratic turnout, as compared to Democratic voter
registration for the district, was actually very high.
Republican turnout
was slightly below registration levels. The make or break statistic was the
Independent, "Swing Voter" turnout, which was both low, and leaned heavily
towards third party candidates.
"In a district this Republican, in order
for Democrats to win, they need a large Independent turnout and a large
margin among Independents. Francine Busby got neither" said Chris Bowers,
Contributing Editor of MyDD.

In another twist, immigration, and the now infamous "gaffe" uttered by Busby
did not have that much of an impact. While the punitive rhetoric may have
held the Republican base together, it did not appeal to moderate or swing
voters.

Ultimately, low Independent turnout was attributed to Busby's own campaign
message
, which focused on what she and others characterized as a complete
breakdown of Republican honesty and integrity in Washington. Findings
indicate running against the "culture of corruption" was a failure and
actually backfired. The poll shows widespread mistrust of both parties and
the promise of "cleaning up Washington" was not believable, particularly to
Independents, who instead took out their frustrations by voting for third
party candidates.

The data also points to the popularity of Gov. Schwarzenegger, whose public
persona is the maverick "outsider" and the belief held by respondents that
California is headed in the right direction, especially compared to more
negative views towards President Bush and the direction the U.S. is headed.

"The theory here is that the culture of corruption theme failed, " according
to Rick Jacobs, Chair of the Courage Campaign, " because swing voters in
particular want leaders who differentiate themselves, are strong and, we
believe, willing to stand up to George Bush. This isn't just about San
Diego. There are lots of congressional districts going through similar
campaigns, whether it's Jerry McNerney vs. Richard Pombo or Nick Lampson vs.
Tom DeLay, if he's on the ballot. It's not about a laundry list of policies.
It's about holding the Bush Administration accountable."
