Disgustingly Hypocritical Bush on the Value of Life

Like Scott "The Lyin' King" McClellan before him, it's the job of White House Press Secretary Tony Snow to get out there and lie through his teeth for the team every day and to articulate the official views of George W. Bush to the media, who then relay it to the American people.

Here's what Snow relayed to us yesterday about his boss's view of stem cell research, the 70 percent of us in favor of it and the medical community that believes it will help people have better lives:

"What the President has said is that he doesn't want human life destroyed. Now, you may consider that insignificant, but the President has said…. [he] believes strongly that for the purpose of research it's inappropriate for the federal government to finance something that many people consider murder; he's one of them.

"The simple answer is he thinks murder is wrong. The President is not going to get on the slippery slope of taking something that is living and making it dead for the purpose of research.

And here's the life-affirming president himself in 2001:

"I believe human life is a sacred gift from our creator," Bush said in an August 2001 nationally televised address on the stem-cell issue. "I worry about a culture that devalues life, and I believe as your president I have an obligation to foster and encourage respect for life in America and throughout the world."

And, perhaps knowing the moment would come when he would nuke the hopes of people with diseases like diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's with a veto like the one he's about to deliver, Bush said this in his State of the Union address in January of 2006:

"Human life is a gift from our creator and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale."

This from a guy who has the blood of over 2,500 of our troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis on his hands because of his discretionary war and who, as Governor of Texas, executed so many people they had to replace 'the chair' with electric bleachers.

Just lovely.

But at least Snow was honest in his final comment on the subject at yesterday's press briefing when he affirmed that Bush is only staying true to promises made to the Religious Right six years ago.

"He is fulfilling a promise that he has long made and he is keeping it."

So much for breakfast

(looking up from trashcan)

Jesus. How much more of this sanctimonius crap do we have to listen to from this worst president in history?

He 'worries about a culture that devalues life' - you mean like sending young men and women to attack a country that did nothing to us?? You mean dropping hideous white phosphorus on women and children? Or were you referring to endangering the environment that supports ALL life on the PLANET?

I'm not sure what God's waiting for... guess the 'Smite' button is out of service or somethin.

Very early the other morning, I was listening to KGO...

San Francisco when on ABC news there was a newsclip of Sen. Bwownback of Kansas equating the use of stem cells for research to the "killing of babies." This cry was promptly taken up by the cretin legislators from Oklahoma in somewhat the same vein.

They never seem to be able to grasp the point that these cells will either be destroyed by research...or will be thrown into the firey furnace to be destroyed. Either way, they will be killed. Being frozen of course means they are still alive.

Brownback and company throughout the bible-belt states sure sound a lot like Sen. Cornpones and/or Foghorn Leghorns(from the cartoons of my very distant past). Sort of surprised that Brownback hasn't joined forces with Fred Phelps.

Senators Brownback, Sessions, and Fred Phelps should
be worried about their non brain cells instead of these
stem cells they are ranting about.

If they want a debate on so called 'killing babies, stem cells'
we can do that, compare that to the thousands killed in Iraq,
plus our own soldiers, the list goes on.

Stem Cells Bill Bush's First Veto....Not Really!

After both the House and the Senate approved a bill to fund stem cell research, Bush now plans to wield his first veto. Let’s chew on this for a moment. Bush wants to veto a bill that would benefits millions, was approved by both houses of Congress and supported by over 70% of America. The only people not supporting this bill are the evangelical fundamentalists (also known as arcane, dogmatic purveyors of hate and intolerance) and the pure libertarians (A.K.A. anarchists) who oppose anything the government does. Then why is Bush going to veto this bill? Two simple reasons:

1. Bush’s evangelical fundamentalist base insists on it.
2. There is no way for Exxon/Mobile to make money off of it!

Then we have this incredible piece of audacious, shameless mendacity from Tony Snow:

“That he [Bush] doesn't want human life destroyed …The simple answer is he [Bush] thinks murder is wrong.”

WOW! Let’s review here:

Pretty hard to believe for a guy who spent less than a half-an-hour reviewing death sentence cases as governor of Texas, before these people were “legally” murdered! No words can describe the hypocrisy of this logic when applied to the current conflict in Iraq where nearly 2600 American’s are dead and over 100,000 innocent civilians are dead.

Every day someone dies in Iraq, a failed foreign policy that is being waged illegally, without just-cause and based on purely fabricated, cherry-picked intelligence, is blood on Bush’s hands and murder!

Now let’s have a reality check here and examine the scientific facts about stem cells:

First, stems cells are NOT human beings! It’s not a baby, it’s not a fetus --it’s a cluster of about 150 cells, that’s it. These are also cells that are targeted to be discarded, in other words, medical waste or garbage! Religious nuts need to get over this “baby murder” thing – its pure specious ranting that is scientifically not true.

If you really want to stop murder, insist Bush bring home all our troops and stop murdering civilians in Iraq! Tell Rumsfeld to close Gitmo and stop torturing people to death; people that are only suspects and have not been found or proven guilty of anything.

Shunning of science and intellectualism is one of the tell-tale signs of fascism, folks!

See, Bush has really vetoed at least 750 other bills by appending a "signing statement" to them, declaring his executive power grants him the authority to execute the laws as he sees fit (or ignore them entirely) not as they were written by the legislative branch -- Congress, those pesky little law makers!

This veto is merely a dog and pony show to energies the fanatical fundies in an election year that promises radical change in Congress and a potential end to Bush's rubber-stamp toadies.

I think it’s time that Congress give Bush a "taste of his own medicine" and affix a “signing statement “of their own declaring:

“They [Congress] reserve the right to ignore the veto of the president, and will disseminate funds in accordance with the will of the people and Bush’s veto violates the Congress’ constitutional authority to, Promote the Progress of Science.” (Article I, Section 8; Clause 3)

Write your Congressman or Senator and ask them to add the signing statement above to HR 810! Hey, The Queensbury Rules went out the window when Bush took office!

"If beings liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obediance and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it"

I think they will find as years pass that this

Government was used as an instrument of DEATH no matter how you look at it.
