Why Isn't "Defender of Christmas and Christianity" Bill O'Reilly Raising a Stink about Reverend Moon???

Bill O'Reilly has once again whipped up phantoms of a phony "War on Christmas." And Jerry Falwell has joined in the hysteria too. But we wonder, if Bill is really such a champion in defense of Christian values, why isn't Bill raising a stink about how Jerry Falwell and much of the Religious Right are in bed with Rev. Sun Myung Moon -- the cult leader who claims to have replaced Jesus Christ as the Messiah??? This dangerous cult-leader even led a campaign to "tear down the cross" in churches around the country. If this isn't a profound and disturbing threat to Christianity in America -- what IS???? Think about it. One of the most powerful men in America, a billionaire owns the Washington Times and the UPI, and who has poured hundred of millions into the Rightwing Propaganda Machine, claims to have replaced Jesus Christ? And he runs a cult that is downright sacrilegious and perverse! By the way, Moon bailed Falwell out of debt to the tune of $2.5 million. And he has paid the Bush parents up to $10 Million. Members of Congress even crowned Moon in a special coronation ceremony in the Dirksen Senate Building! And now Neil Bush is on tour with Rev. Moon and the Moonies! Why aren't you on the case Bill -- if you care so much about protecting Christianity??? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE???

UPDATE: Blogger Scoobie Davis challenged O'Reilly over  Rev. Moon, and here is O'Reilly's cowardly response.

O’REILLY: Stanley, San Diego, California. What’s going on, Stanley?

SCOOBIE: Hello, Bill. I really think this whole, like, fight for Christmas has been overblown and I think it’s largely hypocritical. For one thing, the newspaper that’s championing this--this so-called fight to protect Christmas--is the Washington Times which is owned by Sun Myung Moon who paid black ministers to throw crosses into dumpsters. So when you talk about this Utah cross controversy, why don’t you denounce somebody like Sun Myung Moon?

[O’REILLY DISCONNECTS SCOOBIE]

O’REILLY: Because I don’t know anything about him, and I didn’t even know the Washington Times was involved with this, and I wouldn’t smear Sun Myung Moon anyway, the way you just did, Stanley. I mean, you’re taking it right out of the left-wing playbook—can’t win the debate, smear the person. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

[O’REILLY GOES TO NEXT CALLER]

You don't know anything about Rev. Moon? That's hard to believe. But hey Bill, we have all the research here for you! Or do a Google search yourself! Besides, Scoobie wasn't "smearing" Moon, he was merely stating a fact -- that Moon paid black ministers to tear down crosses. And we thought you were such a defender of Christianity! Shame on you, Bill for playing dumb with your lame "I don't know's" -- thus turning a blind eye to this abomination!!!

Sun Myung Moon: demented and dangerous!

I read the article, "Tear down the Cross", by John Gorenfeld, outlining the psychotic, Sun Myung Moon. All I can say is this man is demented and dangerous. There is no other way to put it.

The fact that the Bush family claims to be born-again Christians and then supports this complete perverted, egregious, flagrant fool only furthers what we all know so well: Its all about money and power…what ever the cost!

"The first casualty when war comes is truth."

This proves my point

Read the article and like I've said before, these fundamentalists idiots don't care one bit about the word of Jesus Christ. What else do people need to see? All they care about is making money and pushing their sick twisted form of morality on the rest of us. They are the modern day Pharisees. Why do you think Jesus was murdered? He told the religious leaders they were all a bunch of self righteous, wicked people, and anybody alive was as worthy of God as them. These people disgust me. If they worried as much about starving children, and impoverished people, like Jesus said, and not passing their billions back and forth between each other, the world would be better. It seems to me they want to create a Theocracy so they can oppress everyone else and start a new Dark age. It is so sad they have so many Christians brainwashed into thinking they serve God, when the only God they will ever serve is Mammon.

Republicans are NOT Christians

Rich, as we continue to cross threads and nodes with comments, we seem to be very much in agreement about several things. The most overwhelming is that none, I repeat, none, of these people are Christians. I don’t want to debate faith or personal views on religions, but Jesus has a more tenable and historical value that we can all point to. Which, in my opinion, is the crux of your (and mine) argument on this topic.

Whether or not Jesus was the son of God is not the issue. The issue that is so often missed and then distorted by the religious right nut cases for their own preferential needs and self pontification is this: Jesus preached a message of peace. He taught an inspirational message that was contemptible to the Jewish priests of the time that all people were worthy of hope, prosperity, fairness, kindness and equality. Whether Jesus was a great man or divine being is irrelevant. He spoke the most basic truths about acceptance of ones neighbor. That if you were graced by good fortune, health and prosperity to share it with your fellow man. “There by the grace of God go I…”

Jesus was the first real liberal who stood up to the Jewish priests against their corrupt temples and pilfering of money from Jewish peasants. He exposed their contemptuous hate of the common man and how they were stealing from the poor to subsidize their own intemperance for greed and power. Jesus uncovered the incredible deceptiveness and abhorrently insatiable appetites for money and control that the “powers that be” of the time had.

He wisely advised to all that would listen to his simple but matchless wisdom, that everyone has significance, worthiness and is inevitably unrestricted to not only liberty but access to God, not just those chosen by corrupt, human dictators based on the size of your tithing to their coffers. Jesus’ ultimate death was, in fact, a direct result of his eminent threat to the rulers of the day and a cautionary tale for the rest of mankind to come.

Most unfortunate, over the last two thousand years a simple, powerful message of humility and compassion has been distorted, filled with falsehoods, used as a weapon of fear, a reason to kill, maim and torture by very depraved and selfish men who have no sense of decency.

Today, we have subjugators, Such as George W. Bush, that have evolved into monstrous totalitarians that will stop at nothing to oppress every person that opposes their warped theocratic ideals of their world. They genuinely believe that people who dissent from their psychotic vision should share the same fate as Jesus.

That is the true irony of the Bush agenda. The very man (Jesus) he claims to have saved him from his (Bush) wicked ways and set him on the path to righteousness, feels no pity or remorse for the unspeakable acts against humanity, crimes against this once great nation, and so many others suffering around the world that he has so willingly imparted on us all.

I am afraid a theocracy and fascist state, created by an evil, misanthropic man, who's disdain for anyone outside his aristocratic circle, is already upon us. The question I keep asking is; what are we all going to do about it?

"The first casualty when war comes is truth."

I couldn't agree more

The sad part is they use morality issues to twist their message around and make it appear something it is not. They fire Christians up with Gay marriage and abortion and all the while their picking our country clean. My own mother, that I used to think was the smartest person in the world, now is taken in by them hook, line, and sinker. I honestly believe she thinks she is just being a good Christian. I just don't see where Christ said to persecute those who do not see things the way you do. Even if homosexuality is wrong, by Christ's teachings you should love them all the more, not persecute and insult them. I, like you worry very much that a Theocracy is already upon us. After the horrible "trickle down" 80s, I was so glad when Clinton got elected. Even though he screwed us on some things, he did do some really good things. But now, all that has been erased, and things are actually so much worse. I despised Reagan and Bush I, but somehow it didn't seem so ugly back then. At least they worked with us on a few things. This administration won't reach out to anyone. It is like we don't exist, when this party has produced the greatest leaders and vision I would argue, in the history of the world. I can tell you now, what I plan on doing is opposing not only this administration but the facist agenda they represent anytime it rears its ugly head. I mean that now more than ever. I will fight this ideology with every ounce of my being, as long as blood pumps through my veins. We WILL win the next couple of elections, because regardless of what the Limbaughs and O'Reilly's say, we love this country, and we believe it is too great a country to let itself fester from the inside out. I just hope even if we lose in 08, it will at least be to someone who will try to heal the serious divisions in this country. People like me and you and all the others who are on here represent half of the populace. We are all disgusted, disillusioned, and really downright furious with our country's direction. The last time this land was this divided was around 1830-1865, and we all know that ended in civil war. Without sounding like a nutcase, I honestly worry that events now are leading up to that again in the next couple of decades. The one thing I wish everyone in this country would stop and ask themselves is if this is the country that they want to pass to our children and grandchildren? A facist, elitist theocracy? Not if I have anything to say about it!

What exactly is O'Really

What exactly is O'Really right about? That Democrats hate God and don't observe Christmas? What does "believe in Christmas" mean? What does "Merry Christmas" mean? Do I believe that Jesus Christ was born on this day? That's my business, and has nothing to do with the American traditions of Christmas -- giving gifts, being with family, and eating until you drop. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol has nothing to do with the birth of Christ -- it's about social inequality. What in the world does Santa Claus or a Christmas Tree have to do with Christ?

People are letting the neocons stir up yet another non-issue. There is December 25, which is a Federal holiday -- just like July 4, Veteran's Day, MLK Day, etc. Then there is Christmas, which Christians celebrate as the birth date of Jesus Christ. Two different strokes, for millions of different folks.

This is much ado about nothing, and when either side tries to politicize a holiday by mixing in a healthy dose of religion, every American loses.

Happy Hanukkah, and a Joyous Kwanzaa to you all. While you're at it, try to have a Merry Christmas without having a cow about what it "means."

Unfortunately

Christmas has become the celebration of the almighty buck, not the almighty savior. They can't offend anyone because they won't drop the Mastercard!!

Merry Christmas is the term one uses whilst...

trampling older folk in the long lines at Mal-Wart and punching people who managed to get their cars into the space you had planned on taking.

Yule trees are nice, make the house smell better.

I respond to Merry Christmas greetings with Happy Solstice. If some crazies had not made this such a big deal, we all could have enjoyed the season's usual excitement.
