Roberts Confirmed with Support from "Democrats"
New York Times: "The Senate confirmed Judge Roberts by a vote of 78 to 22, with unanimous support from Republicans and with many Democrats voting for him as well."
Let's get a list of the Democrats, add it to those who supported CAFTA, the energy bill, the bankruptcy bill, the war, and "tort reform," and deny any of them any money or support, and promote serious challengers in primaries.

Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin'
Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about... Starting right now, we need to clean up our OWN mess before we can tackle the bigger problems.
Ain't that the truth,
Amen, I agree, yee-ha...all that stuff.
Mourn not the dead that in the cool earth lie, but rather mourn the apathetic throng, the coward, and the meek, who see the world's great anguish and its wrong, and dare not speak.
Ralph Chaplin
Staunch Liberal Democrats
like Heahy and Feingold had some reason, or reasons to ok Roberts not yet apparent to us at this time. Maybe one of them could have suffered temporary insanity, but not both. We should cut them some slack. There are no Senators more dedicated to liberal causes than Leahy and Feingold.
I'm waiting too for some
I'm waiting too for some reasoning.
Both Leahy and Feingold are
Both Leahy and Feingold are traitors to the Democratic Party, and have joined the list of DLC DINOs who need to be replaced.
There can be no valid "reason" to betray the Party and vote with the opposition on something as important as a SCOTUS CJ appoinment -- none, nada, zilch. This is a time when ALL Democrats need to show solidarity, and our "leaders" in Congress are taking the money instead. They need to go!
If your assertions
are true, that Leahy and Feingold caved-in and cashed-in, then Leahy should take Cheney's advice, and the 300,000 + marchers on Sept 24th should stay home next time and start learning the words to "O, Canada."
No assertions, just facts:
No assertions, just facts: Leahy and Feingold voted against the Democratic Party and it's members.
Why denigrate the marchers because two traitors came out of the closet? Replace them in future elections, along with the rest of the DLC DINOs.
IMO, their "reasons" as
IMO, their "reasons" as Democrats should be apparent to us. That fact that is not says alot. Are we just left to scratch our heads and wonder " gee,why did they do that? "
I can't imagine what their justification might be - although I'd like to know - and voting for Roberts is a strike against them (again, IMO). Ultimately it hurts those they supposedly represent.
Wild Guess: They figured
Wild Guess:
They figured replacing Rehnquist with Roberts was a wash and to do it quickly would allow them to filibuster the next nominee.
That's a possibility,
That's a possibility, yes.
If anyone actually hears a reason by one of those Senators, I hope they post it.
Then why would they stab
Then why would they stab Reid, and the other principled cohesive Democrats in the back. If they had a "reason," why didn't they share it with their collegues, and their constituents? Why would they just go off in a different direction on their own? Do you see any Republicans doing that?
I ain't buyin' it. They were either promised something by the neocons, or they have joined the ranks of the other DLC traitors who are holding IOUs from the neocons.
I think it may have been
I think it may have been their reasoning but I too do not see how it could trump the cohesiveness you speak of. I don’t think they could share that reasoning with their constituents because they would need to play the role of the “good compromiser”.
I would pay to hear what they told Reid! I think Reid should speak out about this. What I would like to know is do these Senators feel there is NO overall strategy to being an Opposition Party? It would seem that voting as a block is critical. That is to say nothing of voting like a DEMOCRAT.
True dat...
True dat...
I don't know. I wish I had
I don't know. I wish I had more information. But the things I want to know they probably aren't going to share.
I don't like that lack of Democratic unity/cohesiveness on so many important issues.
Democrats not approving Roberts
The Democrats who approved Roberts' appointment were not running for President or in the 2006 election. They know all citizen liberal groups did not want Roberts. They (Leahey, etc.) did it anyway. Why was that? They are part of the elite Neo Cons.
A lot of hot air in DC by Democrats and none of it ever means a thing. Bush gets what he wants. Nancy Pelosi called many in the Bush administration crooks yet she rushed to gave him the 2004 election (announced him the winner before all the votes were counted/recounted. The election fraud still being investigated).
Feingold votes no to important Bush agenda because..he wants to run for President. He's no saint and I won't support him for President. I don't believe anything he says.
I still don't understand DINO logic
Given Junior's dismal approval ratings, we should have exploited Roberts' stonewalling as an example of the secrecy of this government. Granted, we don't have the votes to control the outcome but we should have been at least recorded as worthy and united opposition.
Agreed!
