Lack of interest in news media over pending loss of freedom of press is frightening.Does everybody find it alarming that the pending termination of the first amendment is getting so little coverage by major news media? To give "dignity" to the dead? They are already dignified. It is the highest indignity to keep them from telling their final story. Showing bodies in war and disaster, in an appropriate manner, is our tradition. Did everyne see Ken Burns' Civil War series? Remember all the photos of WWI? WWII? Korea? Vietnam.....Mai Lai???? This is how we record our history. Let the dead speak. For the families. For all of us. But why isn't this a major concern in today's news? This frightens me.

US citizens have been brainwashed....
...up to the point where they have become unable to set things right.
It really makes me sad that the American people don't stand up. Not even when whole cities are washed away and people are just left to die.
Imagine my perspective as an European (dutch). Over here we can just watch in anguish how your country is willingly destroying the world. There's nothing we can do about it. You can, but you don't.
Some lessons are only learned the hard way i'm afraid.
Ask the Germans about that.
Wait a minute. Half of this
Wait a minute. Half of this country HATES George W. Bush and everything he does. We are fighting him with all we have but the other half of this mindless country continue to drag us all down. We are VERY SORRY that Bush is destroying the world. We don't like his policies but all we hear is - he won the election, get over it, Bush can run this country anyway he likes. There are people in this country who understand our Constitution and the Bill of Rights and we are fighting to return to these values. Bush has got the other half of the country so afraid of Osama,Saddam, terrorists and the boogeyman that they don't care if we destroy the whole world in the process because they all believe they are going to heaven. Don't group us all together and say we won't do anything about it. Half of us are trying to change things, the other half won't listen to reason.

But explain to me then that
But explain to me then that of 300 million people only 150 show up to protest in Washington? Shouldn't there be millions of people demanding the man to stand down now?
I'm sure however there are enough good Americans left, we just don't hear about them. That worries me the most.
What i mean is that if the media in your country were independant, Bush wouldn't be in office right now. So brainwashing is too extreme maybe, but the media are surely disinforming the country, i.e. lying.
The media is owned by the
The media is owned by the Republicans. It isn't in their best interests to show their mistakes and flaws.
About the numbers of people at a protest, I don't pretend to know the numbers of people who were there. I know a lot of people can't be there because of Katrina efforts, there are lots of people out of work, gas prices are too damn high. I wish that I had the money and the time to protest the President every single day, but I don't and I'm sure there are plenty just like me.

Before you start calling the
Before you start calling the American kettle black, maybe you should look in your own backyard. Having a few racial and other social problems are you?
You have stumbled onto a community of Liberal Democrats who ARE standing up, and we ARE making a difference. The Republican brand of neoconservatism is not confined to the Republican Party and America -- Europe is rife with it as well. Multi-national corporations and the neocons from every nation are working together to establish a global aristocracy.
So, please don't be too quick to place all of the blame on Americans. As another stronghold of Democracy, apathetic Europeans share the blame equally with the rest of the world.
I just put out a search for
I just put out a search for protest in Washington today and I couldn't find anything. I'm sure some will show up tomorrow for the 9/11 "celebration" the Pentagon is going to hold. Tune back in to demonstrations later in the month. Starting on Saturday, September 24, three days of protest, grassroots lobbying, and civil disobedience are planned for Washington DC to protest the Iraq war and the militarization of US society. Given the way public sentiment has turned against the war, this could easily turn out to be the largest pro-peace event in US history. The event is sponsored by United for Peace and Justice, ANSWER, and many other peace organizations from around the world. You will see more than 150 protestors!
