Dennis Hastert: Preposterous remarks!

September 2, 2005

The Honorable J. Dennis Hastert
United States House of Representatives
235 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515-1314

Congressman Hastert:

I am writing to you not as a constituent, but an American. I am appalled at your recent public remarks concerning the “rationality of rebuilding hurricane ravaged New Orleans.” Regardless of how you later tried to clarify or illuminate your remarks, they were ill-timed and totally insensitive.

As city of New Orleans Mayor, Ray Nagin, frantically begged for federal and governmental help on CNN, while tens of thousands of people were stranded, starving and helpless, you had the gull to invoke a thoughtless and cruel statement about the logistics and expense of rebuilding a proud American city of steep heritage!

As a community leader, public servant and Speaker of the House, the first and only acceptable response should have raised the instantaneous questions of how to help, assist, save and preserve the lives of those devastated by hurricane Katrina.

The issues you presented should have been set aside for a much later time, only after every survivor was rescued, safe and attended to by medical personnel and the Red Cross. Instead, you made preposterous comments questioning the rebuilding of New Orleans without the common decency of addressing those in dire need first during the worst natural disaster this country has ever witnessed!

It is my strong opinion that you owe an open, public apology to the people of Louisiana, the City of New Orleans, Mayor Ray Nagin and our nation for such an inconsiderate, inappropriate, un-American and outlandish statement.

Dennis Hastert is right.

Dennis Hastert is right.

And do you wish to clarify

And do you wish to clarify exactly how that fat-ass Bush parrot is "right"?

Dennis Hastert wonders if it

Dennis Hastert wonders if it makes economic
sense to rebuild New Orleans. His main concern
is the cost of reliable hurricane protection.

What is wrong with that?

As a former businessman I have a habit of
estimating return on an investment before
the investment is made.

Global warming will rise the ocean levels and
it will provide more energy for violent
hurricanes. If all of the Antarctic ice melted,
ocean levels around the world would rise about
61 meters (200 feet). The tiny Pacific nation
of Tuvalu is preparing to abandon its nine
low-lying coral atolls because they cannot cope
with the rising ocean levels. Tuvalu has applied
for permission to move its people to Australia
or New Zealand.

New Orleans is already below the sea level.

Return on investment? Your sick & need help!

Your are a sick, heartless person! Return on investment is all you can think about when thousands of people are dead and 500,000 are displaced and homeless?

"What is wrong with that?"

If my letter to Speaker Hastert does not explain clearly enough to you what is wrong with his revolting comments, let me elaborate:

Money, logistics and practicality need and must take a back seat to the paramount task of attending to fellow human beings first, not whether or not it will affect some political “fat cats” pocket book that is too busy with their own self-severing interests by attending fund raisers!

"The first casualty when war comes is truth."

I’ll go you one further.

I’ll go you one further. Yes, New Orleans is worth the investment.

Of course if we really are ALL going to sit down and see what fat can be trimmed from this Nation I’d be fine with leaving everything on the chopping block. That however is NEVER what someone means when they behave as a heartless “intellectual”. They have simply focused on one tiny piece of the puzzle and muse over it while leaving the infinitely more wasteful use of resources untouched by their brutal logic.

Sorry GM, but my trigger

Sorry GM, but my trigger finger slipped. See his other "words of wisdom" on this post:

Note especially his comments on NASA and the "traditional way of making children." I don't know what his true political leanings are, but he is definitely not a Democrat.

No problem Bill. I knew if

No problem Bill. I knew if I asked him for specifics, he'd hang himself. That's what happens when you make republicans think out loud. There's a reason why Rove and Cheney keep Dubya on such a short leash.

OMG

My favorite
solution is to abolish the present policy of spending a fortune
on prolonging death of senior citizens.

We need public debate about using genetic engineering to
ensure that our children are healthy, smart, and handsome.

I can't even believe any human being would say these things. He certainly isn't a Democrat.

"They want the federal government controlling Social Security

like it's some kind of federal program."

Correction: Dennis Hastert

Correction:
Dennis Hastert is a dipshit.

Sensitivity

As a current human being and a business owner, I think that the timing of his statement was cruel. The people of New Orlkeans are dealing with enough right now. They are in shock. No one knows what the city will look like until the damage has been assessed. Do you think that Geico will be out writing them the checks for their losses on Tuesday? Dennis Hastert didn't even make it back to Washington for the vote. He had to attend a political fund raiser. I know how important selfish priorities are. Do you think that he wrote a check to the ARC? Hastert probably can't grow a heart or be kind to his fellowman, but maybe he could just shut up. I hope that he can't make it back to Washington for those humanitarian votes to stop the estate tax or turn our Supreme Court into the Constitution busting league that Bush envisions.

Insenitive jerk

I have 4 small words that even Hastert can comprehend:
Port of New Orleans
Put that in your cost effective pipe & smoke it.
I'm from the area, and I am completely SICK because of his statements as anyone from the area who actually has access to a television at this point.
I'd love to see how he attempts to dig himself out of this one.

This kind of thinking comes

This kind of thinking comes from sitting back in a soft bed with a full belly and pontificating about the world “out there” whilst NEVER looking at decadence in a million places as fat that can be trimmed.

All I kept doing during the day when I would remember his comment was to mutter under my breath: IT’S NEW ORLEANS!!!

(I should have begun with deference towards your lose. This can’t be easy for anyone in or near this National Tragedy.)
