Pat Robertson is right & should not apologizePat Robertson should not have apologized. He hit the nail right on the head. Hugo Chavez is much more of a threat to us than Saddam ever was. Hugo is forming a 2 million man malitia "home guard" ha ha and he in unison with Fidel Castro and other South,Central American and Mexican countries with the help of 700,000 MS 13 gang members could really reek havoc on our country. There are already 20,000 MS 13 gang members in this country (in 33 states)and god only knows how many Cuban and Middle east terrorist are here. Bush don't have the balls to deal with this threat or the Iran and North Korean threat. He has shot his wad on Iraq and can't even catch 1 man Bin Laden. What a sorry ass looser. He didn't do Afganistan right and he is not doing Iraq right - not enough troops on the ground- which is dangerous for them-- He should have remained a sissy cheerleader he sure is not man enough to be commander and chief.

So Pat "I am ignorant" Robertson should not
apologize?
You know these freaks and whacko's just might
do what he said and try something like this.
So it is OK to sanction killing and assassinations now
It is the Krishtun thing to do?
Rush? Is that you...?
You sound a lot like your namesake. Anyone who would support Robertson (the bigot and phoney "christian") is not a Democrat, and certainly not a Liberal.
First of all, Saddam was NEVER a threat to us, and second, calling for the murder of ANYONE, especially a democratically elected head-of-state, is criminal. And btw, Robertson did not "apologize," he said that he was "misquoted." Like any good neocon, he lies to cover up his cowardice.
Who are you really? You sound like some recent trolls we've had the pleasure of escorting to the door. Are you next?
Sorry Brush, but Chavez did
Sorry Brush, but Chavez did not have much of a beef with the US until we essentially endorsed the attempted coup on this legitimately elected President of Venezuela. Saying he pulls the strings of MS 13--better watch it, that's the kind of guilt by association crap that has us in the Iraq mess that you criticize above.
You won't find this on the kind of sites that it sounds like you frequent, but this piece was written by a retired US ambassador in Latin America who now is a newspaper editor in Pittsburgh. He calls for a "realism" in dealing with Latin America and China, not more hot air. Good stuff, worth the read...

Oh, and Pat Robertson's apology was about as robust as the Bush Administration's lame labeling of his assassination recommendation as, um, "inappropriate." Could they be any more emphatic!!

OK, I'm posting this here,also.
He (Robertson) is a terrorist by definition of the Patriot Act.
http://tinyurl.com/xxul
If a radical imam had said this, what do you think you would happen to him?
Bush is jealous
Come on. The Bush administration hates Chavez because he's a populist. A democratically elected populist that won by a larger margin than Bush could ever dream of getting. His people love him because he is sharing the wealth of their oil sales with them, and locking out US big oil interests.
Chavez refuses to be bullied by Bush, and fights back by selling oil to the countries that cause the most irritation for the neocons, at discounted rates. If Bush would just shut his sophomoric pie-hole and focus on getting along with the rest of the world, we wouldn't have this problem as well as many others like North Korea.
As for terrorist links, I don't have any hard stats, but I can't remember the last time a Central American Roman Catholic rammed a plane into one of our skyscrapers.
Golfmonkey,( Hi guy) I think you
might have misunderstood me.
Sorry..My post was unclear.
Robertson is a terrorist by formal
definition,not Chavez.
I'm not a fan of the Patriot Act ( No s***, Sherlock)
but by their friggin definition, he fits the bill.
Chavez is not a terrorist.
No problem
Karin, I was replying to the main node, that was parroting the theme that Robertson was so ineptly trying to convey, that Chavez is a threat to the US and sponsors terrorism.
As for what you said, you are absolutely correct. If a Muslim cleric said what Robertson did, he'd be breaking rocks in Gitmo, or at a minimum deported like they do in Great Britain now.
OK,Thanks GM

Latest news- Robertson does apologize
He did have second thoughts;

His first response was that
His first response was that his statements were "taken out of context." Rove must have called him, and instructed him to apologize, and wait until the Cindy matter goes away...;-)
Don't let him off that easy
Not like Robertson cares, but I don't accept it. This guy was speaking what he believes, and an apology doesn't change that. There's a reason why the republicans send out talking points and coach their mouthpieces about how to "stay on message" and "don't speak your mind".
Robertson meant every word that he said, and he represents everything that is wrong with the Christian Taliban controlled republican party.
I'm not buying it,
I'm not buying it, either.
He said it and he meant it.
Someone ( Rove?) told him to recant or else.
I don't buy it either. It's
I don't buy it either. It's meaningless, just makes for another good sound bite. And I'm sure too someone twisted his arm to do it.
Don't let him off that easy
Pat Robertson is the prodigal son of a former respected DEMOCRATIC member of the U.S. House of Reprecentatives from Virginia. His son, who frequently appears with his looney father on TV, was born exactly one month (or close to it) after Pat and his wife were married. He was an absolute Hell-Raiser as a young man and was virtually disowned by his family for his antics. He entered the Assembly of God ministry ( a sect which also numbers Jimmy "BJ" Swaggart among its clergy) simply to strike it rich (like most of its preachers). Obviously Pat hasn't read the Bible (just the parts that suit him), especially the commandment that says "Thou shalt not kill!"
If God were the vengeful being Pat believes in (who hates gays, "pushy" women, and Democrats), he would have been STRUCK DEAD after his silly "fatwa" against Hugo Chavez.
Venezuela, like most other countries on this earth, should be allowed to handle its own affairs without U.S. meddling!
Robertson's own wife
Robertson's own wife who was a nurse at the time, told him years ago, when he started this wacko religious quest, that he was becoming mentally ill and needed to see a Dr. right away.
He left her alone, when she was ready to deliver their baby, to go off to the woods to pray. He told her something to the effect that God needed him to go and she would be alright on her own. I think that the man is a functioning mentally ill person.

Pat Robertson
I again reiterate Skull & Bones - Pat Robertson is a Yale Grad. where Skull & Bones has its' home !
Need I say more !!
Monitor, what makes you think that...
Robertson and Skull & Bones are compatible?
Of course, in Robertson's case, his daddy got him a job counting booze bottles in Japan instead of leading troops in Korea.
Wonder if Repugs in the service are as afraid of the bullets coming up from behind them as they are for the ones coming from the other side?
Skull & Bones
There is a movement here in America that has One World Order written all over it. For this to be accomplished the US Constitution needs to be changed which the Skull & Bones Organization has been working at for many years.
I am a registered Republican yet I fear for what is happening to America by the current Administration. I do not approve of what has been taking place nor do I approve of Bush . . . for he is an evil man.
If you want to really know what Bush has been up to visit my blog spot at:
http://PoliSciCorner.blogspot.com
I for one do not believe that the America people really know what is going on, nor are they aware of the intentions of the Skull & Bones Agenda and just how powerful they are in America's daily life styles.
These Mititary Base closures are in preparation for Americans to be imprisoned when they speak out against Bush. I can predict in the very near future that Marshall Law will be in place and arresting honest citizens under the authority of the so-called Homeland Security Act just for speaking out against those who oppose Bush and his deeds and actions over the Middle East War.
We must never elect anyone who is part of or associated with Skull & Bones - our constitution is being destroyed slowly by these people. Do your research - note the members of this origanization - you will know and learn that most of them are the most powerful people in the world with resourses beyond comprehension.
Be afraid - be very afraid - they have been at this for some time and they, shull & bones, know what they are doing.

how about you take a long deep breath, blow it out slowly and read some of the posts on the blog site here, before you start to tell us that you have some kind of exclusive on "truth and knowledge" and indicate that your take on everything is right and ours is wrong?

Message For Monitor
Dear Monitor,
Thank you for filling us in on how evil the leader of the Republican party is, but we kind of already knew that, and that is why over 59 million Americans voted to fire him last November. I knew George W. Bush was evil back in 1998 when he mocked a woman who was scheduled to be executed.
They DO eat their young…

And a Christian group
is asking the FCC to investigate Pat Robertson for calling for the assination of President Chevez on the air. Sorry no link, CNN had the story showing protesters outside his broadcast studio, but nothing on their web site, yet.

Pat Robertson's been outed...
... by his own fellow Christians.
Rev. Jack Van Impe on his TV show denounced the Rev. Robertson, I found that out today by flipping around the local broadcast channels (don't have cable but have XM).
The National Association of Evangelicals have said if Rev. Robertson was a man of conviction he'd be on a plane to Caracus.
The World Evangelical Alliance has stated the Rev. Robertson doesn't speak for evangelical Christians.
The Southern Baptist convention has pretty much come out against the Rev. Robertson.
In short: his peers in the Christian community have basically distanced themselves away from him and at kindest have said his announcements were against the teachings of Christ.
Pat Robertson should be whacked
- in case he does not want to apologize.
IMHO.
"The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself." (Proverbs 11:25)
With a paddle I'm sure you mean ;)
Hi Malgoska, great to see you.
Proud member of the reality based community.
Good to see you back on the boards Mal!!!
You've always had a lot to say based on your experiences with this kind of government.
Good to be back
Hi, friends. I had very busy summer and just did not have time for whining about politics. Pat Robertson's bloodthirst brought me back, because I had to get it off my chest. No, I am not sure he ought to be whacked with a paddle. I REALLY meant the more permanent whack. I think people like Robertson should be either in an insane asylum, or at least removed from public view, so they can't tarnish the reputation of our country. After a comment like that, how do you suppose we look? And this is the "xtian nation"??
Saint Robertson interprets the 10 commandments somewhat liberally. He improvises too much. Let's see...
1. "I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."
Except for the $$ Almighty, of course.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the Earth beneath, or that is in the water under the Earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My Commandments.
However, I do not mind your "in god we trust" inscription on the $$ Almighty notes. And thou shalt not demand the removal of my name from the $$ Almighty notes, as I am proud of such association.
3. Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain.
Naturally it is perfectly all right for you to carry your faith on your sleeve, and wipe your ass with my name at any and every opportunity. As long as it helps you to get closer to $$ Almighty, that is.
4. Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and Earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath Day, and hallowed it.
The faithful are allowed to work their second and third job on Sabbath to collect more images of $$ Almighty to honor the LORD.
5. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
To lenghten your days upon the land, dump thy father and thy mother in a nursing home and forget about them, the sooner the better. Such are thy family values.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
Except when you're sent to fight on a crusade started by your Great Leader Goober Wuss Bush. Then you are encouraged to kill left and right, to make a bloodbath of the blood of nonxtians; men, women and children alike. Everything for Oil and the $$ Almighty.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Unless thou art republican, of course.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
Interesting notion, as thou art allowed to take without permission land and oil that belong to thy nonxtian enemy.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Unless thou art testifying against your opponent, or a liberal, or anybody who's not with thou. That person is against you (see Hitler, Stalin etc.) and that person can be destroyed by any available means. If not by direct assasination (Wellstone, anyone?) then by character assasination.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.
Unless the neighbor is a nonxtian vile character that happens to own oil fields. In such case, everything goes. So help you me, thy god.
This is somewhat liberal interpretation of 10 commandments by xtians like Pat Robertson who makes assinine comments and wants to assasinate heads of foreign countries. Pat Robertson, I am sure, will be rewarded by his maker.
I would like to point out that Pat Roberton's maker is not the same god as the god real christians believe in.
If I went against the grain of a true christian, I count on your forgiveness and understanding. Whoever is a true christian, should work tirelessly toward one goal (for now, at least): to eliminate fakes like Pat Robertson from among us. By any means necessary.
With sisterly love, - Malgoska.
"The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself." (Proverbs 11:25)
LOL
Thanks for the laugh Mal. Good to hear from you again. The scary thing is that you are probably right about their version of the 10 commandments.

Proud member of the reality based community.
Pat Robertson is right & should not apologize
How in the hell can you take anything Pat Robertson says seriously? He's an atypical bible-thumping right-wing Republithug hypocrite. As far as a threat from South America...get rid of BUSHCO and the threat goes away. His policies in Iraq and Afghanistan were and are a non-issue. In the first place, we're there illegally and in the second place ANY war worth fighting is a war worth winning. In other words, nuke the bastards and if you're not willing to do that then the reasons for going to war in the first place must've been pretty lame anyway. How we can presume to tell other nations of the world how to act when we are such a dismal failure at home is beyond me. I just hope I live long enough to see this house of cards crumble and the crooks and thieves in charge of our current government are looking at three concrete walls and bars on the door.
I was totally with you
Glen, until you got so hot to nuke people. Remember in any war it is mostly civilians and the innocent (those who have no power or political clout) who get the bombs. To nuke cities and innocent people is unconscionable. Then there is the issue of wind! Nuclear bombs produce nuclear dust that goes for hundreds of miles, into uninvolved countries. Poisoning the air, soil and water of the "cradle of civilization" is not an option that a sane person would take.
Is this what you want or maybe several smaller bombs, one or two for every city?

If you can handle it there are some pictures of what a nuke does, here. http://www.csi.ad.jp/ABOMB/record.html

Pat Robertson, Hurricanes and Global Warming
The Global Warming Question!
The following is an article from the WashingtonPost.com:
Hurricane Bears Down on Gulf Coast
"Thousands Flee Area as Vulnerable New Orleans Braces for Direct Hit"
By Christopher Lee and Peter Whoriskey
Washington Post Staff Writers
Monday, August 29, 2005; Page A01
This could be the storm that everyone feared. Hurricane Katrina, one of the strongest storms ever to threaten the United States, carved a path toward the Gulf Coast yesterday, packing 165-mph winds and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of residents of New Orleans and the region.
If Katrina makes landfall as a Category 5 storm -- winds greater than 155 mph -- it would be only the fourth to do so in the United States since records have been kept.
"This is a very large hurricane, a very powerful hurricane," said Lixion Avila, a forecaster with the National Hurricane Center. "Wherever you have the eye of this system, you are going to have a potentially catastrophic disaster there. This is the worst-case scenario for a hurricane."
I wonder if now the pseudo-scientists in the Bush Administration will admit that there just “may” be a problem with Global Warming. Maybe his brother Jeb will tell him to consider it as Florida keeps getting hit time and time again with quite sizable and destructive hurricanes. Then again, maybe not because after every ‘cane he and George get these great photo-ops showing the “compassion” in compassionate conservatism and a chance to distribute federal funds to the hard hit Floridians thus creating another surge in their popularity in that State. Maybe Jeb could now fly to Louisiana to give compassionate support to their Governor so that he will have a photo-op to use in 2008!
The following is a clip from an article in NYTimes.com about Irving Kristol, the neoconservative former editor of The Public Interest, who encouraged corporations and conservatives to invest in pseudo-scientific conservative think tanks to put out supposed “scientific” papers (non-scientific of course) to provide favorable economic analyses for corporations, cast doubt on results of scientific Global Warming studies to favorably support the corporate and the Bush Administration’s contention that proving that Global Warming is a fact is in dispute and finally that intelligent design should be taught as a scientific theory and you know who wants that to happen.
August 5, 2005
Design for Confusion
By PAUL KRUGMAN
You might have thought that a strategy of creating doubt about inconvenient research results could work only in soft fields like economics. But it turns out that the strategy works equally well when deployed against the hard sciences.
The most spectacular example is the campaign to discredit research on global warming. Despite an overwhelming scientific consensus, many people have the impression that the issue is still unresolved. This impression reflects the assiduous work of conservative think tanks, which produce and promote skeptical reports that look like peer-reviewed research, but aren't. And behind it all lies lavish financing from the energy industry, especially ExxonMobil.
There are several reasons why fake research is so effective. One is that nonscientists sometimes find it hard to tell the difference between research and advocacy - if it's got numbers and charts in it, doesn't that make it science?
Even when reporters do know the difference, the conventions of he-said-she-said journalism get in the way of conveying that knowledge to readers. I once joked that if President Bush said that the Earth was flat, the headlines of news articles would read, "Opinions Differ on Shape of the Earth." The headlines on many articles about the intelligent design controversy come pretty close.
krugman@nytimes.com
Then maybe Bush and the corporate lobby would ask Pat Robertson to help deflect the claim that more severe storms are being caused by Global Warming by praying that Katrina’s power will dramatically be reduced. He is of course directly tuned into God and the Bush Administration.
Of course if you ask Pat Robertson to do that, even with the urging of such powerful interests, he may say something similar about God causing the event, as he did about New York and 9/11, to punish these people for their sins. And heaven knows New Orleans is a very sinful city and probably deserves to be devastated.. I guess that’s really possible because he probably could have stopped Katrina just like he stopped hurricane Gloria. To backup that point his quote follows:
(Regarding his prayers to keep Hurricane Gloria away from Virginia Beach) “It was 'extremely important because I felt that if I couldn't move a hurricane, I could hardly move a nation” - Pat Robertson
In any case let’s pray for the people who have been devastated by this huge storm that I say has been caused by decades of human pollution of our global environment. Send up a prayer for Pat Robertson hoping that his lunicy will disipate. Let’s also pray that the corporate lobby, the Republicans and the Bush Administration wake up the serious threat that Global Warming poses for the World and for the American people. Let’s also pray that it’s not too late to do something about it.
“A nation that destroys it’s soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people”. - FDR a great American President
Shayne Munger
Hurricane Spin
Since Pat Robertson likes to use Hurricanes as punishment for sins - like Florida and the homosexuals at Disney World - I'm going to "spin" it too. God is punishing ALL RED states surrounding the coastlines for voting for that stupid moron in the White House!
Pat Robertson saying if he can't move a hurricane, then he can't move a nation? Is he the fruitcake who told the government we should install large fans at the coastline and turn them on to blow hurricanes away from us? I guess it is "science" in their Neo-Con world!
"They want the federal government controlling Social Security
like it's some kind of federal program."
- George W. Bush in a debate in St. Charles, Mo., Nov. 2, 2000
