Was There Fraud in Ohio Again on Tuesday?

In Ohio's 2nd CD race, Paul Hackett graciously accepted his close 52%-48% defeat.

But bloggers and activists who watched the GOP steal Ohio for Bush in 2004 think they may have stolen this race too.

Billmon lays out some of the early statistical evidence, which can be suggestive but is rarely conclusive.

The best way to evaluate statistical claims like these is to analyze the precinct-by-precinct results:

  1. Compare the precinct vote tallies (how many votes each candidate received) with the sign-in sheet tallies (how many voters signed in). These should be identical - if not, any significant discrepancies would be a red flag.
  2. Compare the precinct vote percentages by candidate in this election, with the same precinct percentages by candidate in November 2004. These would not be identical, but they should be pretty similar.
  3. Examine the sign-in sheets to make sure the voters who voted were true local residents, not outsiders bussed in (or mailed in) by the GOP.

B. F. You're the real deal

I was so relieved to read that people like you are concerned about the possibility of OH-2 election fraud. After the debacle of Nov'04 if the Democrats didn't have monitors at every polling place, shame on Dean!

On the net today, many sites, there was some discussion

about the sudden 4% jump at the very end. Nothing concrete at this point, but an awful lot of discussion.

stop crying fraud

every time we lose , the democrats scream foul, the reason she won was the last place to count was that witches home county, everyone knew the game was over when that`a all that was left.i really get sick of this complaining, coming within 4% of winning this district was a big loss for republicans.

"We?" I don't remember

"We?" I don't remember joining the Independent Party.

Ms. Schmidt - is that you?

A recount was automatically ordered, which reversed the outcome. Schmidt ultimately lost by just twenty-two votes: 17,076 (49.97%) to Niehaus's 17,098 (50.03%). She told The Cincinnati Enquirer on election night "This is the way my whole life has been - one tough race after another."[19]

Apparently, counting all the votes is respectable - unless you're in a third world country that doesn't respect democracy, or something.

Sour grapes, perhaps? If she didn't win that other time, maybe she didn't win again, and perhaps inaccuracies just 'happen' to follow her around?

I've seen a picture of the woman before all the air brushing and stuff. She's just mean-looking and scary.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Well Joel, I'll tell you why we scream foul...

This is the last of 4 elections that have been stolen. Several states are no longer capable--or even interested--in holding honest elections. Florida, Ohio, Texas, and take your pick of Georgia/Alabama.

If these state were Catholics...and I the Pope...I would excommunicate them all.

Ohio of all places, is still trying to avoid sending their leading repugs to prison for the fraud during election 2004.

Don't know about you Joel...but I am one pissed Liberal at the antics of these UNAMERICAN states.

As an independent, a mugwump if you will, what right do you have to criticize those of us who are brave enough to take a stand?
