The Free (Unfair) Trader Democrats! This is a copy of an email I sent to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, one of your "New" Democrats. But my email is also for all you New Democrat free (unfair) traders! Shayne Munger Leader Pelosi, The following position you are taking is misguided and ill conceived: "House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) privately warned Democrats last month that a vote for CAFTA is a vote to stay in the minority." By taking this position you are assuming that the Democrats need the endorsement and the campaign contributions of the multi-national corporations to win elections. This reasoning has led to the corporate control of our government. Why are you "New" Democrats so afraid to stand up for the working American and the Middle Class of this country? The majority of people in the country think that we are going down the wrong path and also feel that the economy is in trouble. This includes Independents as well as Democrats. The New Democrats' position is that unless the Democrats support globalization and these unfair trade agreements we are going to lose elections because we aren't "centrist" enough. That's crap! If that is true why is it that since the party started supporting this free trade philosophy (with NAFTA) in the mid 90's we've lost both houses of Congress, the Presidency and now maybe the Supreme Court? We have lost our base values of supporting the little guy and positions that are good for the American people rather than good for corporate America and the wealthy. We have "sold out" to the multi-national corporations.. This situation is causing a severe attack on the American Middle Class and the American family! The answer is to go back to getting support from the populist and progressive grassroots of our party, we will get the campaign contributions and the support we need from the average American that you are supposed to represent. Howard Dean has shown that by the use of the internet that is possible. Please abandon this multi-national corporation give away policy that is sending both American jobs and American industry to foreign countries at the Shayne Munger

I'm not sure what your rant
I'm not sure what your rant against Speaker Pelosi is all about. Her position is against CAFTA, and she is urging all Democrats to vote against it.

Leader Pelosi
This quote was taken from the Washington Post online today!
"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) privately warned Democrats last month that a vote for CAFTA is a vote to stay in the minority."
Since this was a private conversation and not known publicly maybe it just shows her concern. And maybe she now supports the vote against CAFTA. I hope this is true and I apologize to her if it is. But my "rant" as you call it is for all those “New” Democrats that are free traders and are selling out the American worker. It is also to explain my reasoning why we should rely on the grassroots of the party and not corporate America and the wealthy for contributions and support.
What is it about Speaker
What is it about Speaker Pelosi's statement that you do not understand? Do you think that "a vote for CAFTA is a vote to stay in the minority," is a statement of support for CAFTA? Do you think she advocates staying in the minority?
Also, fyi Speaker Pelosi is NOT a member of the DLC, or the "new" Democrats.
Leader Pelosi!
You’re absolutely right! I feel like a big dope. I read her statement wrong and I humbly apologize to Leader Pelosi. I will email her a copy of this comment with that apology. I erroneously jumped to the conclusion that she was urging the support of CAFTA because I read it in the context of an article about Democrats that still support free trade. And
I guess that the anger that clouded my thinking was even more intensified because of the fact that my Senator from California, Senator Feinstein, voted to approve CAFTA.I will go hide my head in shame. But my views on the new democrats and the DLC still are valid and I'm glad that Leader Pelosi agrees with me! And I appreciate the fact that you straightened me out on this point.
Thanks for re-examining your
Thanks for re-examining your thoughts, as I was totally confused...;-) Many members of Democrats.com, including myself, are less than enthused about the positions of the "new" Democrats and the DLC.
We also support a return to grassroots leadership in our party, and Howard Dean is working towards those goals. That is why he gets flak from some of the DINOs in our party.
P.S. I refer to her as "Speaker" Pelosi, because she should be...
"Speaker Pelosi"
Good idea I will do the same for "Speaker" Pelosi in the future. And I will for sure do it after November 2006!
Reagrding Diane, she votes
Reagrding Diane, she votes with the Republicans waaay too much for my liking. Can't you guys in CA find a replacement...? ;-)
Bill, I like Henry Waxman
from our 30th Congressional District.

Too bad John Burton retired! He was a fighter for all of us.
Wow. Talk about people in
Wow. Talk about people in glass houses...
GM, you lost me there.
Burton or Waxman?
That was a dig at Bill with
That was a dig at Bill with Inouye and Akaka, who've been all over the idealogical map w.r.t voting records lately.
Gotcha! I believe Bill has
permanently written them in on his list. ;-)
Gotta go, I'll check in, later.
I KNEW that you would pick
I KNEW that you would pick up on that! Even Ed Case is starting to get on my nerves, and I have written to all of them. I get the stock answers in reply, "Thank you for your input, blah, blah, blah..." Hopefully, Inouye is getting close to retirement, and Case can be educated.
Akaka is another matter, and sometimes he votes correctly. Being that he is a native Hawaiian, I have a hard time with my conscience about him. On the one hand I am proud of him, and his family, for their contributions to the Hawaiian community, and their ties to the past. On the other hand, he sometimes pisses me off to no end.
I guess that my real position is, to keep the Democrats we have, and add more to take back control of Congress, and then replace the DINOs.
I knew that you knew.
And had you really known that I knew, then you would have let me know that I have two republican senators, and suffer from post-election senatorial envy of the Great State of Hawaii (just like I have with MA).
Five-Oh. Book 'em Dano.
I don't like to kick fellow
I don't like to kick fellow Democrats when they're down...;-)
Mom likes Nancy Pelosi.
My dear mother called me to tell me about
" this great speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who's on CSPAN right now."( No kidding, Mom)
My mother is such a RINO! How do you argue with a stubborn, 86 yr.old RINO?
DLC Dems
The DLC Dems have their hearts in the right place. They try to be nonpartisan, which is good, as well as moderate, which is rarely a bad thing. Most of them are from the red areas of the country, the best example being Evan Bayh in Indiana. Were we to run someone through in those areas who was as liberal as Barbara Boxer for example, we'd probably lose pretty drastically. I disagree with the "New" Democrats on a lot of issues, but they're still Democrats and we're in this fight togather.
As individuals the DLC
As individuals the DLC Democrats may be popular in their home states, but as a group they have done great damage to our Party's credibility.
By thinking that they are smarter than the average Democrat, the DLC have sold us down the river to the same corporate pimps that solicit the Republicans. Most of the members here at Democrats.com support Howard Dean's efforts to return the Party to its rightful grass-roots owners, and to undo the damage done by the DLC over the past decade.
As far as "having their hearts in the right place," that is debatable. It appears that getting re-elected and collecting corporate money has become more important to many of them, than actually representing the goals and values of those who voted for them. They are collectively afraid of the "L" word, and we are tired of their Republican-lite "centrist" leanings.
We are proud of being Liberal Democrats, and we want our Party back.
The DLC
Amen to your comment Bill. As far as I'm concerned the DLC Democrats are nothing but Republican clones who are in the pocket of the Multi-National Corporate Lobby.
