Spying on Citizens, Government Control and the Brave New World

Please see the following articles and ask yourself... as democrats... what do we do?  We have a leadership vacuum and I am not seeing a way out...

When I feel frozen with incredulity at these developments (see below), appalled at the brazen and ruthless pursuit of GOP power, and sick at the loss of liberty for our country, ourselves and our children, I stave off feeling helpless and ask myself, what can we do?

Then I wonder ... where is the Democratic leadership?  If they cannot get the media to cover them, why aren't they blogging and moblizing the grassroots, rather than writing vapid content-free form letters to the membership on their official sites, with little or no direction or call to action. They should reach out daily and court the membership to make up for the lack of daily contact that the conservatives get through broadcast and radio news and religious talk shows. People cruise blogs because they are seeking out the groups who share their concerns.... but it has to go beyond sharing... what do we do??

George Bush dubiously won the 2004 election, but he has not stopped campaigning.  He is going around the country doing issue campaigning.  2006 is gonna be here in a few months and hit the DNC like a ton of bricks.  I do not see the major DNC figures on the campaign trail doing issue campaigning on issues of major concern to everyone ... like privacy and food supply, to ensure that our party is not powerless to legislate after the mid-term elections.

I got a phone call today from Friends of Kerry asking for my support of the Kids First Bill and for a donation to Friends of Kerry (I will avoid acronyms here)... I asked what happened to the $15M he had left over from the Presidential Campaign, and they said he had used it all on this initiative. I pledged ten bucks so they would send me a packet so I could consider sending more if it all jibes.

Even so, this is being played as Kerry's bid to remain in the spotlight for 2008.... what about all the issues to discuss and Democrats that need to mobilize by 2006. At the rate the Democrats are losing every round, I fear we will never regain the lost ground if these conservative projects to create an oligarchy and powerless underclass are not nipped in the bud.

Because this site attracts so many hits.... would it be a good test bed to invite a different democratic leader every week to preach a message or make a call to action or advertise the schedule for campaign speeches ... have it as a special forum section?

I just don't know what we can do collectively besides give $$ to the DNC... and clearly that is not enough. That is not why we lost in 2004 and we are not getting direction on what to do to win..... Dean does not have the luxury of a honeymoon period.... we have to get down to business right away....

Government snooping has been

Government snooping has been around since J. Edgar Hoover's days, but the PA has made it so much more "respectable." Is there any doubt in your mind that every word, and every IP address, on this blog is being recorded someplace deep inside a government building?

What can we do? As many have stated on this blog, it all has to begin with our own individual and personal efforts -- friends, family, co-workers, etc. I agree that many of our so-called "leaders" at the national level are more concerned with their own welfare than they are with their constituents' interests.

It took the neocons a long time to reach their goals, and achieve the position that they are in today, and it will take us a few years to catch up. The bright side however, is that they are helping us by being so power-mad. They are showing themselves for what they really are: bigots, greedy, easily bought, and moral hypocrites.

Bill, I have thought that all along.

That's why I'm careful ( or try to be)
when I'm writing a post. In the neocons
eyes, we are subversive. Hell, so is
SpongeBob Squarepants!

Martha's DNA

I would bet that the Republicans would hold on to Martha's DNA. If they ever change their minds about cloning, they will need some good taste to put in the conglomerate Wal-SEARS-Home Depot store. If martha could make the prison look better, she might even be able to help this monstrosity. Kathy Lee just won't do it.
