Massachusetts Senator John Kerry announced on Wednesday appealed to supporters to make a contribution to the Democratic National Committee, and offered to take the first step himself. Kerry told supporters in an email that he would make a $1 million donation to the DNC, which is set to elect former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean as chairman on Feb. 12.

Kerry is right...
I posted a comment a while ago about how the DNC is going into the 2006 campaigns in about ??$11M in the red, while the RNC is going in about $15M in the black. We need to get going to make a difference at affecting the balance of power in Congress. It makes sense to send it to the DNC rather than a specific candidate... the DNC can divvy up the funds in a manner to ensure the most likely winners in the various races get what they need.
PLUS... Democrats are working people. Better to give $20/month through 2006, than act on a sense of urgency in the 11th hour and give $150. If you have e-banking, set up a monthly auto-pay ... Please.
Why wouldn't Kerry have that
Why wouldn't Kerry have that much? His was one of the best fund raising campaigns in history... This is good that the money we sent him will be going to use

Funds in balance...
Last I heard (Dec 2004) Kerry had @ 15M left over from the 2004 election; largest balance ever in DNC times.
Kerry had $40M balance on Novermber 3rd (day after election) --although some money was spent in 'legal fees' for attorneys (debate of election) other expenses and other monies have been used (Tsunami efforts et al )..
Since Kerry plans to run 2008 (at least his camp thinks so) --I'm sure he's being frugal and rather not elaborate.
Howard Dean is a good fund raiser and probably may just turn it up for the Dems.
Howard Dean (will need to set record straight) sooner than not; due to the fact he bashed the Dems (2003) --and may look like a flopper...however; Dean should be a great campaigner --as long as he keeps driving the 'progressive movement'.
Forget policies (Bush doesn't care) --Politics is the name of the game!
Kerry's fund
There was a article out about 2 weeks ago, about John Kerry's left over money. When it was all said and done with he had about 10 million left. He was transferring some over to his senate fund. 1 million will go the dnc, and what is ever left will go to keep his web-site up and running. I believe these numers are right, someone out there may no for sure.
