here in CA.

The polls showed ' No on 8' ahead until the Knights of Columbus
and the Mormon Church contributed millions of dollars to the
'Yes on 8' campaign and flooded the airwaves with ads proclaiming
California schools would " teach gay marriage in the classrooms"!

I'm a teacher- it's pure fear mongering BS!

Main point-

We don't " teach marriage" in our schools.

We have an opt-out option for any parent to excuse his/her child
from participation in an event/classroom discussion they object to.

Believe me, parents use it!

Lectures on sex education/birth control and other sensitive subjects have
always required parental approval for the student to participate.

Our own State Superintendent of Schools, Jack O'Connell is in a' No on 8'
ad stating this very fact and adding " using kids to lie about this is shameful".

I was so happy to see that ad- until the 'Yes on 8' people countered with
an ad stating O'Connell was lying and that he was just a " liberal educator"!
Puhleeze!

They will do or say anything to promote their homophobic, civil rights destroying agenda.

Gay folks

Gay people as a group are such a violent bunch. Haven't they started all the wars. Destroyed all our great institutions. Caused the black death in the 1300s. the chicago fire, the collapse of the byzantine empire, the 1904 earthquake, the downfall of the minoan civilization, and many others. you name it they have been blamed for it. I don't think the hate speech is going to work this time. At least I hope not.

Debunking the myths used to promote the ban on same-sex marriage.

Clever magicians practice the art of misdirection -- distracting the eyes of the audience to something attention-grabbing but irrelevant so that no one notices what the magician is really doing. Look over at that fuchsia scarf, up this sleeve, at anything besides the actual trick.

The campaign promoting Proposition 8, which proposes to amend the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriages, has masterfully misdirected its audience, California voters. Look at the first-graders in San Francisco, attending their lesbian teacher's wedding! Look at Catholic Charities, halting its adoption services in Massachusetts, where same-sex marriage is legal! Look at the church that lost its tax exemption over gay marriage! Look at anything except what Proposition 8 is actually about: a group of people who are trying to impose on the state their belief that homosexuality is immoral and that gays and lesbians are not entitled to be treated equally under the law.

That truth would never sell in tolerant, live-and-let-live California, and so it has been hidden behind a series of misleading half-truths. Once the sleight of hand is revealed, though, the campaign's illusions fall away.

Take the story of Catholic Charities. The service arm of the Roman Catholic Church closed its adoption program in Massachusetts not because of the state's gay marriage law but because of a gay anti-discrimination law passed many years earlier. In fact, the charity had voluntarily placed older foster children in gay and lesbian households -- among those most willing to take hard-to-place children -- until the church hierarchy was alerted and demanded that adoptions conform to the church's religious teaching, which was in conflict with state law. The Proposition 8 campaign, funded in large part by Mormons who were urged to do so by their church, does not mention that the Mormon church's adoption arm in Massachusetts is still operating, even though it does not place children in gay and lesbian households.

How can this be? It's a matter of public accountability, not infringement on religion. Catholic Charities acted as a state contractor, receiving state and federal money to find homes for special-needs children who were wards of the state, and it faced the loss of public funding if it did not comply with the anti-discrimination law. In contrast, LDS (for Latter-day Saints) Family Services runs a private adoption service without public funding. Its work, and its ability to follow its religious teachings, have not been altered.

That San Francisco field trip? The children who attended the wedding had their parents' signed permission, as law requires. A year ago, with the same permission, they could have traveled to their teacher's domestic-partnership ceremony. Proposition 8 does not change the rules about what children are exposed to in school. The state Education Code does not allow schools to teach comprehensive sex education -- which includes instruction about marriage -- to children whose parents object.

Katherine Harris was then active in the same national Spiritual Warfare network which Sarah Palin has been associated with and may still be a member of ... a global religious movement bent on imposing theocracies around the world and whose top leader, C. Peter Wagner, has decreed to his followers it is God's will that a forcible, massive transfer of wealth, from the 'godless' to members of his movement, take place.

In the conference call, Katherine Harris made the dominionist entreaty and prayer to God that 'Father, once again, once again, we'll rejoice with Your son and bring this nation into alignment with Your government, with Your Kingdom principles and authority.' Harris also cited evangelists who, directly under C. Peter Wagner, constitute the highest level leadership in Wagner's global organizations and networks: Chuck Pierce, Cindy Jacob and Dutch Sheets.

Sarah Palin's association with religious leaders who practice "spiritual warfare" and, as Goodstein accurately detailed,

spiritual warfare "adherents believe that demonic forces can colonize specific geographic areas and individuals, and that "spiritual warriors" must "battle" them to assert God's control, using prayer and evangelism. The movement's fixation on demons, its aggressiveness and its leaders' claims to exalted spiritual authority have troubled even some Pentecostal Christians.

Goodstein went on to note that Sarah Palin had (in the summer of 2008) "delivered an enthusiastic graduation speech for a class of young spiritual warriors in June at the Wasilla Assembly of God, the church in which she was raised." Goodstein's story went on to mention that Palin, as Alaska governor, had appointed a spiritual warfare advocate to an Alaska State suicide prevention council, a story first covered by this author.

I am sad and angry that Prop. 8 passed.

The HRC and 'No on 8' campaign conceded Thursday, in spite of
several million votes that remain to be counted.

The fight continues for equality for all,with several demonstrations
planned here in the greater Los Angeles area tonight.

We have had demonstrations every night since Wednesday to repeal 8.
It's a civil rights issue, which the proponents of 8 just don't understand.

When asked by Chris Wallace what "conservative solutions" the GOP would bring to their current minority-party status, Pence said social issues like "the sanctity of marriage" will remain the backbone of the Republican platform.

"You build those conservative solutions, Chris, on the same time-honored principles of limited government, a belief in free markets, in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage," Pence said.

The Indiana representative cited the ballot measures against gay marriage that passed on Election Day as evidence of the continuing presence of conservative values.

"There were three state referendums on marriage ... all three carried. The vitality of the conservative movement around the country is very real," said Pence.

Pence is set for the No. 3 spot among Republicans in the House of Representatives, while Rep. Eric Cantor is generally viewed as the heir to the No. 2 position.

GINGRICH: Look, I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion. And I think if you believe in historic Christianity, you have to confront the fact. And, frank -- for that matter, if you believe in the historic version of Islam or the historic version of Judaism, you have to confront the reality that these secular extremists are determined to impose on you acceptance of a series of values that are antithetical, they're the opposite, of what you're taught in Sunday school.

Gingrich thinks gay marriage is a very dangerous threat to traditional religion. Can he tell me how they are dangerous? Just because he doesn't believe in it doesn't mean it will hurt anyone. This is ignorance. The right needs an issue to motivate their base, but this lack of freedom for the gay community actually hurts their lives on a daily basis where as in the religious community it hurts no one. Are they honestly afraid that their kids will go gay or something? I know what James Dobson thinks:

"They want to destroy the institution of marriage. It will destroy marriage. It will destroy the Earth."

That is pure lunacy as we know. All gays want to do is part of that institution and have the same rights as all Americans do.

Breaking: Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens loses re-election bid

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has lost his bid for a seventh term. The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday's count. That's an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted.

The present Republican leadership does not have much left in order to pick your pocket.

Expect MASSIVE Gay bashing.

I bother to say this because folks are always going to disagree over hot button issues, but we had better find a way to agree on economics because some of the House Dems coming in are whining about "taxes".

I ask everyone within earshot to always tie tax DECREASES for the vast majority (~99%) with tax increases of the leisure class. (Who I have repeated more than once, should be paying for the military defense of their wealth. Currently, they are not).

If they want their taxes cut then they can lobby for a rational military defense posture.

Sponsors of the ballot initiative say matter is too urgent to be unsettled

SAN FRANCISCO - The state attorney general and sponsors of the ballot initiative that banned same-sex marriage in California urged its Supreme Court to hear a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn the ban, saying the matter is too urgent to be unsettled.

"The petitions raise issues of statewide importance, implicating not only California's marriage laws but also the initiative process and the Constitution itself," Attorney General Jerry Brown argued in his filing.

"This court can provide certainty and finality in this matter," he said.

Proposition 8, which passed with 52 percent of the vote earlier this month, overturned the high court's May decision legalizing gay marriage in California. The measure inserts language into the constitution limiting marriage to one man and one woman.

Gay and civil rights groups, the city of San Francisco and other plaintiffs have asked the court to void the measure on the grounds that voters did not have the authority to make, what they say, is a fundamental constitutional change.

--Pursuit of Happiness

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

When I read these words in  the Declaration of Independence, I see them as applying to all Law-abiding Americans. To me, marriage is one of these rights to happiness -- regardless of gender.  Gays should have all of the rights  the rest of us have and marriage is just one of them.  What a disappointment to see Proposition 8 pass -- especially when the fight for passage was led by groups from out of state, who - in my opinion - should not have been allowed to campaign in another's state.

The California widfires were gods judgement on Californians passing proposition 8. hey its almost as good as what Falwell said about 9/11.
