"Ya can't blink, Charlie"

Has anyone else noticed McCain's rapidly blinking eyes when he is speaking?  I noticed this quite a while ago.  My daughter just told me that she heard Jon Stewart mention it!

The ratio of his blinks, compared to my own blinking is 12:1 and sometimes 15:1

What do you think about that...H-M-M?

McCain's Blinking Eyes

This is in response to Kathleen 1106.  Yes Kathleen, it is worth noting, and a number of people have pointed out that McCain's body language in his debate with Obama was very poor.  He avoided eye to eye contact with Obama throughout the entire debate.  However, if McCain were to win this election it would not be the first time a candidate became president despite poor body language.  Need I remind you that George W. Bush's body language was also very poor during his debate with John Kerry in 2004?  Bush Jr's. eyes rolled around in his head as if he were in the throes of a drug induced panic attack every time Kerry made a valid point in critisizing the Bush Administration.  Sad to say though, enough voters were still gullible enough to allow him to steal the election.  Let us not be fooled again.

Blink, blink...Wink, wink

Every time McCain blinks....it's a sure sign that he's lying!!!!

"You Can't Blink" But He Does

Turns out you're on to something, tomcat:

When a person makes very little eye contact, they may be feeling insecure. They may also be lying and not want to be detected....

Blink rate tends to increase when people are thinking more. This can be an indication of lying as the liar has to keep thinking about what they are saying. Realizing this, they may also force their eyes open and appear to stare.

Blinking can also indicate rapport, and people who are connected often blink at the same rate. Someone who is listening carefully to you is more likely to blink when you pause (keeping eyes open to watch everything you say).

Beyond natural random blinking, a single blink can signal surprise that the person does not quite believe what they see ('I'll wipe my eyes clean to better see').

Rapid blinking blocks vision and can be an arrogant signal, saying 'I am so important, I do not need to see you'

The last one was particularly troubling to me. As I watched, I saw that McCain never looked at Obama, and I thought that was strange. Later, I read that it was an effort to dehumanize Obama by simply not acknowledging his presence. At first I thought that was a real slight to Obama, and of course, it is, but it more than that. It is also a remarkable insight into the person McCain is, and how he self-protects.

Now just think of that personality representing America on the world stage. From the international viewpoint, first we've had 8 years of aggression and arrogance, possibly to be followed up with a man of cryptic insensitivity.

I'm sure McCain used detachment to make it through his captivity. The question is why would he use it as a tactic against Obama?

Detach here----------------------------------------------------

As far as McCain not looking directly at Obama, I don't know for sure, but the impression I got was: He was mostly looking down at his talking points (90% of the time), carefully concentrating on reading them so as to pronounce everything correctly and not ramble on incoherently like his running mate does.
As for detachment, I believe he is simply detached from reality and the condition of this country. I think the anger is probably a result of his frustration.
Either way McCain is no more qualified to be president than Palin is.

Jeese...I'm in the wrong business. Maybe I should have become a shrink:-)
