What does it have to do with anything

I honestly respect any man who serves our country! Let me say that first but...I have to ask.

What does John McCains being a POW have to do with ANYTHING!? His political views and whether or not anyone should vote for him has absolutely nothing to do with his service record. What he can or will do for our country or the average american has NOTHING to do with what happened to him while he was in the service. They make such a big deal out of this and I had to ask...do they think that means a damn thing to most of us?

Just for an FYI, much like McCain i grew up in a military family. My father has been in both the Army and Navy practically his whole life and is still currently in the Navy. My father who is a career man has had to work and work hard for everything he has! After asking him the same question he wasnt sure what McCain believes his service record has anything to do with the nomination for presidency.

I just dont know...

If that was the case

If being tortured while in war, was a qualification to be President, then all the prisoners of Guantanamo should run in their districts also.

What a show of smoke and mirrors and DENIAL.

"It wasn't me politics of the 2008 election, ONLY it WAS McSame the Maverick who voted with Bush doctrine 92% of the time.

Came back to vote(although absent most of the time)

Concerning his war record...

I have to respect and admire what John McCain did in Vietnam. However, I do not have to agree with him now, and I certainly don't have to vote for him.

What he did then, he did as a young man and a soldier. He is now just another old, rich, professional politician.

His voting record throughout his career, his remarks during this campaign, and his choice of running mates are all cause for considerable concern.

I was there

I did two tours in Viet Nam. I didn't loose an airplane. I didn't get captured and I didn't renounce my country. Does that qualify me to be President of the United States? I don't think so, but it sure puts me a couple steps ahead of McCain. What has McCain done since then that improves his qualifications?

How about Keeting five? NO
Voting with Bush 90% of the time? NO
Owning so many houses he can't even keep track of them? NO
Thinking the upper limit for middle class is $5 million? NO

What has he done to improve his qualifications to be POTUS? NOTHING

ENOUGH is ENOUGH, no McCain.

I am so happy to read this

I am so happy to read this from a Viet Nam veteran, because I have raised this same issue with some of my friends. One immediately get defined as being unpatriotic! I just don't see how getting shot down when you were doing something you shouldn't have been makes you qualified to be Commander-In-Chief. In fact, in my estimation it shows that you lack the ability to strategize to keep from being captured, how then does that qualify you to lead a whole contingent of people. And then he picks someone who is as mindless as he is as his running mate. We are in serious danger!

Patriotism is not following the dogma

As a fellow Floridian I am glad you are standing your ground on this issue. To many people in our state think it is unpatriotic to question the Republican Dogma. All I can say to them is "Sig Heil". John McCain was a POW, but so were 600 other Americans during the Viet Nam era. Was he a hero or a screw up pilot that lost a few planes, who cares, he did his job and survived. Does that mean that we have 600 potential Presidents? I don't think so, I know more than one other ex-POW and none of them thinks their ordeal automatically qualifies them for the highest office in the country. John Kerry got the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three purple hearts and the Republicans smeared him. Personally I think that attitude nulifies any opinion a republican has on patriotism.

I am currently a registered Democrat but if at some time in the future the Republicans put up a candidate that I felt was better qualified to lead this county I would be hard pressed not to vote for them. I choose to be a democrat but I was born an American and I will always follow my heart as a patriot. I have pledged my allegiance to his country, not to a political party. In my lifetime I only know of 4 Presidents that I would consider true American Presidents, two were Democrats, the other two were Republicans. All the others were political hacks doing party politics and the country be damned, and none of them were named Bush. Bush and Cheney are as bad as I can remember, McCain and Palin could be worse.

McCain's Service:

I think McCain's service does add to his qualifications for President.

Does that qualify him for the Presidency? NO.

McCain also apparently served this Nation when he acted as a small break on Right Wing advancement a decade back.

When he had the power to actually defend this Nation however, he gave the USA a big FU: he helped drain the treasury, turned his back on the troops in Afghanistan, ran for oil bucks for the very few in Iraq, etc.

A decade ago I thought McCain cared about this Nation. I would have overlooked disagreements about policy. No longer. McCain will let this Nation bleed to death because he is mush.

Both his brains and his muscle: MUSH.

Being a POW doesn't qualify McCain for Presidency

Getting shot down over Vietnam doesn't make McCain qualified for the Presidency. McCain shows he is mainly a tactician and not a strategist. Obama is the strategist. McCain graduated in the lower end of his class at military school so no wonder he didn't learn anything like strategy.

For example, McCain's mantra of drill, drill, drill shows he is a tactician with little strategy. Obama's energy plan shows he's a strategist because he has a whole energy program planned to proceed if he is elected. Obama also came into his campaign with a huge plan and runs it like a business allowing huge success in his campaign. McCain ran out of money at the beginning of his campaign and had to get money from corporate lobbyists to proceed.

We want our President to use more strategy than tactics when he thinks and plans, not just someone who wants a means to an end.
