Re-Registration

I am a naturalized citizen of the US since the early 60's from the UK. In horror, I lived through the race riots. As a naturalized citizen I thought that it was my duty to vote, but eventually got discouraged. I did vote for a number of years, but then found out about the Electoral College & the Delegate System. I was appalled to find out that my vote could be hijacked by a Delegate that was allowed to change allegiences.

About 20 years ago I decided to not participate in this unfair practice that the US declares as a model for the world. So what ever has happened is not my fault. I have no control over the administrations that have arisen through the current administration as I have not voted.

For the first time in 20 years I feel a ray of hope & am willing to get back into the political arena. I just hope that Senator Obama stays the course & is willing to take advice from more experienced politicians in order to make a more compatible world order.

I am ready to re-register to vote if I think it will really make a difference.. This is a huge change for me.

So you are saying you went

So you are saying you went through the process of becoming a naturalized citizen and yet you did not know of the electoral college and the delegate system? What were you doing, sleeping in class? The system while not perfect is certainly not secret. You had to have heard of it in the citizenship classes you went through to become a naturalized citizen.

Now you say you have not voted in 20 years and you say what has happened since then is "NOT YOUR FAULT?" Who's fault is it then? If you don't vote you have no excuse to whine. You have no excuse for anything, you chose to come here and you chose to abstain from voting, you are the problem.

But on a brighter note, thank you for seeing the error of your ways and getting back into the system regardless of it's flaws.

It's impossible "not" to vote.

Bush was made possible by non votes.

Why vote?

Simple: It is one's responsibility to SLIGHTLY influence a chaotic world.

That influence, over time, may make the change one wishes at the outset (like getting rid of the Electoral College).

I would encourage folks NOT to vote IF the system gleaned ANY feedback at all from non voters. IT DOES NOT.

In any case, the world is better off now that you plan to put your 2 cents in ;)

To Jim Harding

I am sorry if you took my comments as an elitist British view as that was not my intent. My ex-husband was in the US Military, & three of my four sons served our Country. I have always supported the efforts of our troops.

I was addressing some people that think that just because they were born American that they are better than anyone else in the World.

Jean ;)

No problem.

And yes, the crowd you speak of does exist, and they are a royal pain in the @@@.

Welcome aboard ;)

Jim

Jean, apology accepted, and

Jean, apology accepted, and yes the "Ugly American" does indeed exist. Cloudancer is not one of them, however, and his words were honest, and from the heart. Many of our contributors and members have also served their country, and are true patriots.

All that aside, welcome to Democrats.com and please vote early, and often...;-)

Commitment

Cloudancer, I apologise if I offended you. I am new to this interactive scene & do tend to go off sometimes. I just want to let you know that I have decided that it is in the best interest of the Country that I vote this year. We certainly do need a change.

Not offended

Actually, I am pleased that you are taking an interest again. Over the years I have known many naturalized citizens and have found that for the most part they are considerably more knowledgable about the working of our government than natural citizens. The teachings and testing required to become nationalized is far more rigorous than most US government classes in our school system. However, if you were very young when you became a citizen maybe it did not stick much like it does not stick with our young people in school.

Welcome back.
