further support ban on smoking in bars and music venuesI would like to know if anything is being done in regards to smoking in public places. Specifically, in bars and music venues in Florida. We are allergic to smoke (2 - 3 day headaches) and sometimes nosebleeds and my fiancee is asthmatic. This makes it hard for him to breathe and limits where we can go. It would be nice to be albe to enjoy a band or DJ's in a club without getting sick. It's a big problem and I know a lot of people that just don't go out around it anymore. This makes it hard on the performers (attendance numbers) and not fair for hard working people that want to go have a good time once in a while. The smokers have more rights! Is anyone concerned about this? Is the funding for the smoke-free movement going to go away with a President (elect) who recently smoked? We need to keep the pressure on because smoking causes millions of dollars a year in healthcare costs and illnesses. Not too mention the personal cost to the families of nicotine addicts. Some folks will have no gas or food - but they got cigarettes. This happens more than you know expecially in lower income families. But that's for another day. ~ For now - I just want to be able to breathe clearly in bars or music venues. |

Smoking Ban
In PA our smoking ban will take place on 9/11/2008. It covers all public places including bars whose revenue from food exceeds 20% of their total revenues. Contact Gov. Crist and recommend he review Gov Rendell's legislation. As far as Obama recently quiting smoking - I think that most former smokers are extremely aware of how their smoking habit affected other people. Many ex-smokers that I know including myself (smoke free fo 20 years) are even more sensitive to cigarette smoke than non-smokers. I look forward to the day when smoking is banned EVERYWHERE. Nothing bothers me more than to see people smoking with children in the car. I believe that this has been outlawed in some places. We need to continue to help people quit smoking. We need to ban menthol cigarettes that are so attractive to young smokers and we need to continue to ban smoking in as many places as we can!
I am looking for to 9/11/2008 because I will be able to go into my local pub, have dinner and not have to take a shower to rid myself of the stench of cigarette smoke!!
smoking ban for bars and music venues in Florida
WOW! That's great to hear. It doesn't look like there's anything like that on the horizon in Florida but who knows, maybe we can a fire started!!! It took us 8 years here to get clean air for restaurants but WE DID IT. How nice it is to go out to eat and breathe clean air. Now if we could go out to enjoy music or dancing and have the same consideration. How they even allow it knowing all that they do about second-hand smoke and the chemicals involved in cigarettes, I guess PROFIT is still more important than HEALTH. It won't be when it's their family member dying of lung cancer or suffering from a "smoking related illness". Without health - life does not have a good quality to it. We just cremated my friends brother. Dead after 5 months from mouth and lung cancer. He was a smoker. Such a waste of human life. He never even got to use all the camping gear he got for his "cigarette miles"! ~1111healer
Yeah, just as soon as all smoking is banned, then we can start..
eliminating the serving/drinking of alcohol and loud music in public places.
Works for me.
