Does John McCain suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome?I have to wonder about the mental state of John McCain having been a POW. We all know he has a bad temper. Wouldn't you think he has a lot of "issues" that could affect his judgement about war? Does anyone know anything about PTSS (post traumatic stress syndrome)? I for one would LOVE to see a commercial that brings that possibility into question.

There is no such thing as an
There is no such thing as an unwounded combat vet. The American public deserves to know if McCain has been treated for PTSD. Even more so if he has not been treated. (I'm a Vietnam combat vet).
PTSD
I am a retired psychotherapist who specialized in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. It is hard to know whether John McCain suffers from PTSD without knowing his psyc., history. One would think that he did not come out unscathed by his prisoner experience. I did read that he takes meds for sleep problems, and his lapses in memory could be related to high anxiety related to PTSD. If he is suffering from PTSD then the pressure of the campaign and pressures of being President would increase PTSD related symptoms. That is EXTREMELY concerning because it would greatly effect decision making regarding current issues that could get caught up in past unresolved issues. McCain MUST come clean regarding his mental health.
McCain: PTSD PROFILE: More important than Alzheimer's??
(I'm sorry for posting this under the Alzheimer's thread and here, but I didn't realize there was a PTSD thread, too. It strikes me this is an urgent issue.)
We need to see McCain's psychological profile.
My husband was a Vietnam Vet diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress. I am a nurse who worked with Vietnam vets for years both in clinical settings and as a family member of the Vietnam Veterans of America in my county.
I believe McCain evidences the explosive temperament and "hostage-taking" which are frequently present in PTSD.
I am NOT a diagnostician. I am not offering this as a medical opinion. However, as a person with significant personal/professional experience and education, John McCain terrifies me.
We have the right and the DUTY to know if we are unleashing a psychologically unfit person on the rest of the world.
I think he's desperately seeking a victory in Vietnam. He will not stop looking for an enemy to defeat.
We and our children and our grandchildren would be insane to put the US Military under his command.
McCain PTSD
Thanks for putting into words what my gut feeling is telling me. HOW can we pursue this?
McCain: PTSD PROFILE: what to do?
I've been looking for a way to mail my posting to Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann. They're the only mainstream pundits I've heard discuss it at any length with real interest.
Maybe my eyes aren't working, but if someone can find a way at their site(s) (MSNBC) to email them, I'd appreciate it.
We need to be compassionately insistent about this, imho.
Are there any vets out there who have thoughts on this who'd give us some insights?
