Democratic Convention

I recently spoke to a friend of mine who is going to the convention as a Clinton delegate. She said that the Obama campaign is trying to keep her name(Hillary Clinton) off of the nomination list on the opening day of the Convention. As a Hillary supporter, there are 18 million of us out here, it is wrong to break with the tradition of our Democratic Convention by not allowing her name to be on the nomination list. She fought the good fight and won a substantial number of delegates. I realize that Obama will get the nomination but it does nothing to unify the party if you slight the person who came the closest. It serves no pupose and threatens to fracture our party at a time when we can ill afford to be fractured. We have a long and hard road to the White House and the DNC will need Hillary supporters to be as passionate about supporting Obama as we were in our support for her. I never spoke ill of Obama while those two fought for the nomination. Since he has won enough delegates to get the nomination I have defended him on blogs, political boards, newspapers and in person. I want a democrat  in the WH in 2009. I have a son who is serving his third tour in Iraq so I know firsthand the hard ships that military families and our troops have experienced for the last six years.

Clinton Nomination

I'm sure by now you realize that Obama has agreed to let Hillary's name be put in for nomination.  We all need to be united now, and both Hillary and Obama realize that.

Obama has nothing to do with Hillary's placement for nomination.

it is in the laws/bylaws of the convention. She, as a major player, is entitled to be placed in nomination. To state that Obama has 'agreed' to this only means that you need to read the convention rules.

Sorry.

My mistake obviously. I haven't read the bylaws and tend to go by what I see on the news. I'm sorry if I offended you. Her name will be placed as a nominee and no one has a problem with that. That is what I meant to say.

No problem Haruka...good to see you back

Obama has actually talked about how he was responsible for Hillary going for nomination...the press has eaten that up completely.

Going to be a very interesting convention methinks.

I would not have known had I not spoken to a Clinton delegate so don't feel bad.
I used to visit another political board but I had to get off because quite honestly the hostility that Clinton supporters got from Obama supporters was actually worse than what those supporters were saying about McCain. I reminded them often, as I did in my missive to Howard Dean, that there would come a time when one side was going to need the support fo the other in the real fight.
I am going to support Obama, I have already written my first "letter to the editor" to that end, but I am glad to see Hillary being granted the respect that is her due at the Convention.

Is ANYONE at the Convention paying attention?

I have been watching the convention on CSPAN - I feel like I'm the onlyt one paying attention. There's so much noise in the hall you can't hear the speakers - everyone talking, no one listening. No one even applauded Teddy's speech till it was OVER! Thank God Michelle at least got their attention. None of the networks are carrying anything but the major speeches - MSNBC, CNN & FIX News are so obsessed with their anchor-egos, they're not paying any attention to what the speakers are saying. Dennis Kuchinich & Ed Rendell gave rousing speeches - CSPAN carried and 200 people in the hall heard them - that's it. WAKE UP DEMOCRATS - the Republicans know how to make it at least LOOK like they're paying attention. You won't see this apathy at THEIR convention next week. WAKE UP DEMOCRATS - if you want America to know our candidate, we have to at least pretend the WE know him !!!
