Houseparty!

Mary Fuchsman is hosting our next Houseparty this Saturday, August 9 from 2-4pm. I hope you will be able to join us. The Honorable Paul Koretz, (Assemblyman - Retired) will be our featured speaker.

Paul had a distinguished career in the State Legislature, is now the Director of the Jewish Labor Committee and is running for LA City Council in 2009. He has been a social justice activist all his life and has made an impressive impact throughout his career. He currently serves as the co-chair of the LA County Democratic Party Legislative Committee on which I (Carole Lutness) sit. I have come to deeply admire the breadth of his understanding as well as his great ability to work with and move people toward action.

Koretz will talk about our budget crisis and what needs to be done to fix our structural problems at the State Legislature which causes this problem year after year. The ultimate solution is to get 54 Democrats elected so we can overturn the 2/3rd vote requirement that now allows the Republicans to stonewall our efforts to achieve a balanced budget. Are you aware that California is only one of three states that require this "super majority" to increase revenue and pass a budget?

We are really honored that Paul will be coming too the Houseparty and hope you will attend. We will all learn more about how we can improve our government and break this gridlock that paralyzes California every year and as Republican operative, Grover Norquist said, is slowly "shrinking government so small you can drown it in the bathtub" . Lutness named "one of the 54!"

We have been told by Jim Wisley, one of the Democratic Parties top political gurus that "if your polling looks good in the 38th for Obama and if Obamba looks like he is going to sweep CA the way we think he is, then we will be really supporting your race. You are definitely one of the 54!" Right now the Party is putting their efforts into securing other key races because they are pretty sure they can take those seats but if Obama looks good in our district and across the state then I believe we are going to get a lot of help. This will help all our 38th AD candidates and help the 38th as well to Turn Blue. Your help on my campaign ---- walking, phoning, etc (contact Lyn Shaw, above) as well as your efforts at our SCV Democratic HQ, 23119 Lyons Ave, Newhall (661-877-2775) and at DP/SFV in SFV (818) 995-DEMS (opening soon) is invaluable. We have exactly 3 months to go to win. This is the election of a lifetime. There will never be the opportunity we have now to wrestle control back from Republicans and begin to restore what they have nearly destroyed. But we can't do it without you. Please pledge to do at least two hours a week on some activity that will bring us closer to our goal.

Precinct Walking schedule for next weekend

Isaac Lieberman who is heading up the SCV HQ and SFV/DP/SFV GOTV (Get Out the Vote) efforts for the 38th AD gave me the following schedule for Precinct Walking for this coming weekend:

8/9 (Sat) from 5-7pm starting at Mary Fuschman's house (see directions below)
*
8/10 (Sun) from 4:30-7pm starting from Dorri Raskin's house, 18350 Los Alimos St., Northridge (see directions below)

Even if you have never knocked on a door and looked another Democrat or Decline to State in the eyes, believe me, it is one of the most rewarding things you can do. People who are contacted through Precint Walking are 72% more likely to 1. Vote and 2. Vote for your candidate. Besides, it's great exercise and we have a jolly good time together afterward eating dinner at a nearby restaurant. I know it's scary at first but we always walk in pairs, you get trained and someone is just a telephone call away to support you. In all my years Precinct Walking I have come across very few nasty people and many, many wonderful people who are grateful for the work we are doing. This year most of the voters are really with us. We need to GOTV and get the Dems to Vote by Mail (VBM) because VBM's are 82% more likely to vote than poll voters.

I know, I know, you are always being asked to donate to political campaigns. And because of your generosity we are able to elect many wonderful Democrats.
