The Successful Presidency of George W. Bush

Like millions of my fellow Democrats across this great nation of ours, I have always regarded George W. Bush as a complete imbecile. I felt he was the spoiled-rotten black sheep of an elitist, possibly neo-facist family, that used his daddy's money, and his name to over-achieve, and get in over his head. I never thought there would even be a prayer of him being elected in 2000, and again in 2004 because I felt his luck would eventually run out.

I felt my views on him were confirmed after 9-11. While his approval ratings soared, I watched as he diverted the American war effort away from our true enemies in Afganistan and let bin Laden walk free. I watched as his war became a fiasco, with almost a trillion wasted dollars, and thousands of wasted American and Iraqi lives.

I watched also as the government led by him proved completely inept and incompetent in dealing with a natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina. Like many others, I figured the cat was out of the bag, and he was proven as the dismal failure that he actually was. While his approval ratings have plummented to record levels, current happenings have led me to re-assess George W. Bush, and what I used to believe was a failed Presidency.

It was no mistake that we went into Iraq when we were attacked from Afganistan. What I used to regard as gross incompetence, I can now only shake my head and realize it was a carefully orchestrated plan that has unfortunately achieved it's end. George W. Bush and his handlers were highly successful in doing just what he was elected to do.

When you look, in 2000 Gas Prices were less than half what they are now. Going to war against our real enemies, and actually dealing with the network that attacked us simply provided no profit for George W. and his cronies. In oil rich Iraq, they had an already demonized leader in Saddam Hussein that Americans hated. None of us would shed a tear to see this man deposed, and even executed.

Oh, but the bonus was the manipulation of the world-wide oil market. Going into Iraq successfully drove oil prices up for Bush, and his allies the Saudi Arabians and the American Oil companies. Record profits were the result as the world, and the American working class suffered. The natural disaster of Katrina was yet another chance to drive those prices, and the profits they produce even higher. A real stroke of luck for Bushco, not a failure at all.

A trillion dollars for the war profiteers his daddy, and indeed his own administration was tied up with, and record profits for the oil companies was not the only benefit that Bushco will leave office with. Now, because of the manipulation of the oil market, and the record profits of the Oil companies, Americans seem to be falling for the line that we should drill in Pristine lands like ANWR, in our coastal waters, and many other places like the Continental Shelf, and in the western part of our country where "Oil Shale" exists.

The worst part is it seems as if those responsible for the high price of energy will get away scot-free. The very oil companies that have gouged us time and time again will win the approval of the American populace to drill in our public lands for more oil, and more profit. Even some Democrats are favoring this plan now. The American populace seems to have forgotten it was the failed policies of this Administration and the record profits of greedy men in the Oil Industry that caused this mess, not the Caribou of Alaska.

Renewables such as bio-mass are taking a backseat, and will never recieve the funding they deserve for the promise they hold in weaning this country off it's addiction to oil, and just in time for the election, the manipulated gas prices are coming down. Democrats could actually recieve the blame for this mess for merely trying to protect our country from those who hold profits over people, or anything else for that matter.

So now, with so little time left in his Presidency, I must change my opinion on our 43rd President. This man thinks that history will bear him out as a successful President, and unfortunately I must concur. Not that I believe he has been a success for the American people he was elected to protect and represent, because his Presidency has been a complete failure for 99.9% of Americans. However, looking at things realistically now I must say that the Presidency of George W. Bush WAS a success, because it achieved everything he and his dispicable band of handlers set out to do.

In another diary proves my point:

Carter - just a reminder - corporations dont pay taxes - Americans pay taxes!

Exactly how will fighting big oil make energy cheaper?

Shouldnt you be working WITH big oil FOR Americans? Or has this escaped you? Alternative energy is a great idea - but i cant drive to work on it yet. Until i can, I NEED CHEAP GAS!

Remove taxes, increase supply, make us energy independent!

How about fixing energy costs before going on vacation???

Sincerely

Clyde

Thanks Clyde!!

The death of H.R. 6251

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h6251/show

Here's more on Rahall's bill.

http://tinyurl.com/6yq4j2

The 68 million acres of leased but inactive federal land have the potential to produce an additional 4.8 million barrels of oil and 44.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas each day. This would nearly double total U.S. oil production, and increase natural gas production by 75 percent. It would also cut U.S. oil imports by more than one-third, reducing America's dependency on foreign oil.

The Rahall bill would force oil and gas companies to either produce or give up federal onshore and offshore leases they are stockpiling by barring the companies from obtaining any more leases unless they can demonstrate that they are producing oil and gas, or are diligently developing the leases they already hold, during the initial term of the leases.

Coal companies, which are issued leases for 20-year terms, are required, as a result of the Federal Coal Leasing Amendments Act of 1976 to show that they are diligently developing their leases during the initial lease term. The law was enacted in an effort to end rampant speculation on federal coal as a result of the energy crises of the 1970's.

Oil and gas companies, however, are not required to demonstrate diligent development. Because of this, oil and gas companies have been allowed to stockpile leases in a non-producing status, while leaving millions of acres of leased land untouched. The Rahall legislation directs the Secretary of the Interior to define what constitutes diligent development for oil and gas leases.

Companies could avoid this new lease prohibition by relinquishing their non-producing leases, thus creating an opportunity for another company to explore for and perhaps produce oil and gas.

"As long as oil companies hold oil hostage, they will continue to get away with charging high prices and demanding a greater share of the public's land. This bill forces their hand by compelling them to produce or hand the over their idle leases for someone who will," Rahall said.

H.R 6251 failed to pass as the Repubs blocked it from
accquiring a 2/3 majority.

It would have required Big Oil to utilize the existing leased land
for drilling. They aren't using it- WHY?

That is the question no one is answering.

And...

Too few are asking.

Bush Successful Presidency--Yes, they got EVERYTHING they wanted

I totally agree with RDillon.  The Oil Men in the White House got everything they wanted and more both financially and legislatively.

W and Satan sold us down the river,  not to mention his own parents.  I can imagine how embarrassed 41 and Barbara are vis a vis what W has done to the family legacy.

I will be so glad to get rid of them.  I have many regrets about this administration, but my biggest regret is not following the recommendation of CNBC's Jim Cramer--buy stocks you hate.  I should have bought the likes of Halliburton and Exxon Mobil.
