Crist: I now support oil drilling off coast

Another Republican with truly bad ideas.

TALLAHASSEE -- Describing his position as evolving, Gov. Charlie Crist said he now supports exploratory drilling for oil and gas off Florida's coast because ``Floridians are suffering.''

"When you're paying over $4 a gallon for gas, you have to wonder whether there might be additional resources to bring that price down," Crist said.

The governor said he ''applauds'' Republican presidential candidate John McCain for calling for a lifting of the ban on offshore oil drilling off most of the nation's coastline.

The proposal drew a quick condemnation from McCain's Democratic rival, Barack Obama, who said it would do little to affect prices.

But Crist said, ``We have to be sympathetic to the pocketbooks of the people of Florida and what they are paying at the pump for gas, and balance that with what our state might be able to contribute in terms of resources.''

He added that drilling off Florida's beaches is ``something I'd least like to do, but I also understand the economics of what's happening to our country.''

Obama's campaign put Florida Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson on a conference call with reporters to assail McCain's proposal. Nelson said it would do nothing to lower prices, which he said are being fueled by speculation in the markets."

First they moan because "we don't have enough refining capacity in this country." Now they want to start drilling for oil off Florida beaches to make up for the high oil prices.

Gee John and Charlie how long do you think it will take to start pulling oil out of our beaches? Then will you two be giving the properties to the oil companies? Will we build new refineries? Where will they be located? Last question, do you pigs ever take a thought from idea to reasonable conclusion..? To make sure that I am making myself clear... If the plan isn't to make the oil barons even richer, wouldn't it make more sense to get to work on reasonable alternative fuels. That would be a really good twofer don't you think? Save the beaches and the planet at the same time assuring our grandchildren a chance at life too!

Drill Drill Drill! - get over it!

So gas is high, the oil companies are making billions in profits, the shieks are making money hand over fist to give to the terrorists that W keeps sending us to fight and guess who is again calling for drilling  offshore.

"Bush looks offshore for remedy to high oil prices"(from AP)

He is also trying to talk with states (probably a way to bypass congreess again) so what else is new.  Liers lie and cheaters cheat.  What would you expect from an oilman.  An oilman is always going to want another well.  Now I am not saying anything about oilmen  in particular but that is all they know.  Oil is in their blood through generations of working fields and esspecially in Texas.  But that is not what is best for our country and all the other citizens that live in it.  It is a call to the quickest short term fix with the possibility of enormous profits for the few.  Let's see, what was it they called that area in the gulf of the coast where oil has been drilled......hmmmmmm..........oh yea they are calling it a dead zone and it is getting bigger.  They say it is from fertilizer runnoff ...too much nitrates but coincidently that is where most of the drilling platforms are too.  At any rate it is a bad idea.  It will take several years to get going and there is a finite amount of oil there anyway.  That is not future thinking.  That is desperation thinking.  If they are so willing to spend the kind of money it would take to do all this why do they not wish to spend that same money on alternatives.  And Dynamic is right, they would not have any more refineries unless they wanted to build more and the turning crude into gasoline would still be slowed.  A smoker is always trying to smoke that last cigarrette before he decides he needs to quit  because it is bad for him.  But without support he will just keep trying to smoke because he does not have the courage or the will to change his life for his health's sake or for his family.  Let's help these short sighted people change by standing up for better alternatives.  Oil's had its dirty cheap run for a hundred years.  Let's move on to cleaner and better.  The ideas are out there we just need the will to change and leaders who lead with courage not fear and clinging to a past way of life.  Our planet is the only one we have and if we continue to screw it up there is no where for us to move.  There is no planet suburb for us to spread to.  We need to take a clear look at the devastation and pollution we leave behind in our sprawl.  Our future and our childrens future depend on it.  There are ways to have things and not devistate a planet.  You do not have to be a take what you can get survivalist to have nice things.  We really can be green and happy in comfort.  All we have to do is care.  The earth is not some seperate thing that goes away or takes care of itself.  It does take care of itself to some degree but we have over taxed its system and it is part of us and we are responsible to help it(which in turn helps us).  We are all one big organism and for some to say otherwise is a big lie.  By healing the earth and living within its systems we heal and protect ourselves.  Let us not be led by fools again any longer.  There are just better ways of doing things and they are here now.  Let's embrace change for the better not for the worse.

The time is now for alternative fuels not drilling for oil

Hi shakerdog. I don't expect anything good or reasonable from any republican politian these days.

What we can do is to make sure that the public knows both sides of every important question. McCain is all about short term fixes for our energy problems [quick and dirty] same old, same old. Back to the future! Drilling experts say it will be 2030 at the earliest, before one drop of offshore oil from new wells could hit the market. Even if it could be done in 10 years that will not be a solution to any problem, other than how the oil companies can make even more profits. With the right amount of R&D money, in the right hands and the will of the American people we should be able to get totally off oil energy long before their oil comes to our filling stations. This republican "idea" is another greedy old man's scheme. It is being advanced by the same moronic policies that have gotten us into this mess. While the McCain and Co. are trying to frighten the public into seeing the world through the wrong end of the telescope,as usual, we must get the truth out.

Who Killed the electric car.

The technology is out there and it is a great time to start. This is the perfect opportunity to get off hydrocarbon auto fuel once and for all.

Honda readies sleek hydrogen car for sale next year

More oil is not the answer to any of the world's problems! The time is now for alternative fuels not drilling for more oil.

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross." ~ Sinclair Lewis

What happened to the republican party?

The party of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt it is not. Now it is the party of the GOP (greedy old pigs).

As a person who lives Florida

Charile Crist has screwed up the education when decide to make that property tax amendment (which had loopholes for the Rich) and now All these counties have budget problems that have even gone to the universities. Now he wants to mess up our coast lines. If there is an oil leak and it gets to land not only would it coast the state millions in touristism revene but also would make these already endangered species in even bigger trouble and don't forget the clean up!
