disparity of wealth gap between rich and poor
The U.S. disparity of wealth, the gap between rich and poor, has reached a level not seen since before the Depression. Worldwide the United States has the most unequal distribution of income, with over 30 percent of income in the hands of the richest 10 percent and only 1.8 percent going to the poorest 10 %. Since 1980 the gains went largely to the top 1 percent, whose incomes rose 14% while the bottom 90 percent dipped 0.6%. The top 300,000 Americans collectively enjoyed almost as much income as the bottom 150 million Americans. Per person, the top group received 440 times as much as the average person in the bottom half earned, nearly doubling the gap from 1980. This gross disparity of wealth is significant in terms of social and political stability of the nation. (During this Bush administration the income gains for the top 1% have doubled to 28%) Statistics show that the richest 1 % of the US citizens own 40% of the total property of the country, while 80% of US citizens own just 16 %.(the Federal Government owns nearly 30%) Bush is proud and admits his core support and finances come from the elite."This is an impressive crowd - the haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elites; I (George W. Bush)call you my base."
The Weak U.S.Dollar Threatens National Sovereignty. The euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, the Australian and New Zealand dollars, and the Indian Rupee are all up, either multi-year or all-time highs against the U.S. dollar. With the dollar rapidly losing value, the U.S. is essentially "on sale." The first nine months of 2007 saw foreign acquisitions of U.S. corporate firms hit $257.4 billion. Communist China now has controlling interest in and essentially owns Chase Manhattan Bank.
Job losses continue...
First there was the Air Force tanker order. Big mistake.
Last night on KGO San Francisco, it was announced that the government has been chuckling over the latest example of outsourcing: Our new passports have been farmed out to country or countries unknown at a saving of $100,000. They claim there have been no security problems. Yeah! Right.

Job Losses Continue...
Well I won't be crying about a further job loss. W's gunna be out of work soon.
Just because
Is my fault that I am smart and invest wisely!!!!! I'm not part of the top ten% but my family does very well. I can tell you all how to win in life- WORK HARD, BE EARLY TO WORK, TAKE THE HARD JOBS, NEVER COMPLAIN TO YOUR CO-WORKERS OR BOSSES, TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY. DONATE 10% OR AS MUCH AS YOU CAN TO YOUR CHURCH OR CHARITIES IF YOU PREFER. BE FAITHFUL TO YOUR WIFE AND CHILDREN and never, never, ever let anyone do your JOB; no matter what you do, clerk at the grocery or manage the Wal-mart or own your own company. For me and my family I retired from the Military and we now own a few convenience stores. I support less taxes, more community support and smaller GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!
Looney, you left out a few points.
How about the diligent, hard worker who follows all the guidelines you state,
then finds his/her job outsourced overseas?
Or the worker who devotes 25-30 years to a company, as a faithful employee
only to be laid off months before retirement, stripping him/her of most or all benefits?
All in the name of "cutting costs" ?
" A thriving Wall Street and a crumbling Main Street".
THAT'S the American Dream?!?
Looney Right the Welfare Whore.
Thanks for refusing to pay the troops MARKET WAGES and instead living off the Welfare so afforded. Thanks too for allowing decadence at the top, for ZERO labor. In other words, thanks for nothing.
Your little accomplishments in life blinds you to actually "getting it".
I'll explain s-l-o-w-l-y:
-------------
While you try to emulate the very successful with your rant, you do just the opposite. THEY use #2 all the time. THEY break Monopolies by passing Anti Monopoly laws to spread the wealth around. THEY pass Time Limited Patent Laws to again spread the wealth around. Etc.
Soldiers, Scientists, Engineers, etcetera, do the same when they vote to break Implicit Monopolies.
------------
Should I go on or are your eyes opening?
How about you get off your ass and demand that folks pay for services rendered? Wars are fought to defend a Nation. You should pay in proportion to the wealth you need defending. That requires a Proportionate Tax. Or do you just bother to rant against the vast majority of peasants like Einstein, the Troops, Medical Researchers, etc and not the Paris Hilton types?
I could go on but lets leave it at that for now.
------------
Your error in logic is that you swallow the FALSE analogy between how people should behave and how mega Unions should behave (in this case, Corporations).
I'm sorry but if a few non competing mega Corporations form Implicit Monopolies, the answer is NOT to slowly build another Corporation to compete. This allows us to be ripped off for decades. Also, the Nation can't afford pulling talent from the Military, the Sciences, etcetera in order to do so. It is the voting booth where Monopolies of all kinds are REGULATED. Where folks are forced to pay for services rendered in a Proportionate Tax. Etc.
------------
Was I mean to you? Forgive me, but I'm sick of idiots on the Far Left and Far Right. This is America where balance reigns (or should).
Jim
And illegal workers
that you can use as slaves by paying them unreported wages so you don't have to pay taxes, a living wage, or insure them. The rest of us will have to pay higher insurance rates to cover their costs when they hump around and have babies like rabbits, right?
King George
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
That was George's agenda, with the blessing of the collective lobbying Rethuglican controlled congress and senate who told Democrats to stop whining, like Charlie Brown. Vitter said this.
Waa Waa waa waa wa wa.
Shut up!
Anybody getting put out of their homes will want to sink their perverbial Bush it party for good.
We need donations for the remanining congressional and senate races. Has anybody else recieved Dodd or Joe Trippi's e-mail yet. Contact the DCCC.com and make some donations the rethugs have more loot. I wish it was already the general and we could send some of the Obama donations to the rest of the party. We still have to combat the smears and lies and racial innuendo, when anybody that has known Barack would know this is more of the same BS, George did to John McCrazy.

Variation in income for the vast majority is due to a healthy dose of competition, effort, and luck. All fine American values.
Insane variations at the extremes are due to implicit monopoly and the inertia of money that Daddy and Mommy made, NOT effort or innovation.
Capital needs to be returned to the working majority who provide the labor, soldiering, and innovation. That occurs at the voting booth.
Get some balls folks.
Jim and kwahlf
I get it!!!! 24 years in the military and a small business owner. Believe me I get it!!!!
I am very proud of the system we have, yes their are flaws, but we are all human. Balance should reign. But those in power
are backed by those "Implicit Monopolies". "Left or Right" The Media (MONOPOLY) is going to make the choice for you!!!!
If you get layed off because of overseas outsourcing; Your getting paid too much for your job. Thats ONE of the problems
with Americans, We think we are owed something!!!!! Nobody owes you nothing!!!!! If you deserve better get off your BUTT
and get IT!!!! If your waitng for the MEGA CORPS or the elected officals to help you. Just move overseas, at least you will
have a job!!!!!!
Wall Street made me a lot of money, more the the military ever did!!!!!
looney
Thanks for the response.
It had some weight to it. Good man.
I think you error in one regard: It's not about me fretting over whether I can sink or swim. I swim.
Its about letting shit heads bath in milk and strawberries while underpaying everyone else.
What might sound like whining to some, is the only thing keeping monopolies from demanding overwhelmingly higher prices for energy, medical care, etc. The "whining" causes a bit of care in dealing with folks. The worry over that whining leading to legislation, keeps the lid on insanity.
I assure you that your view is a race to the bottom (unless you are directing it only to specific low lifes who need a kick in the ass). Real money can hold out longer than you or I can. It can easily bring this Nation to its knees with ever higher prices and ever lower wages.
---------
The biggest problem is that your philosophy will always be true in context. However we are now experiencing the lowest percentage of profits going to labor since the Depression! The direction is also all downhill. At some point folks have to say enough is enough.
Push too far and the mob F@@@s itself over. I do believe however that Paris Hilton will continue in her labors (rather than taking up Welding, Ditch digging, etc) if her income was reduced via a complimentary rise in other incomes. There is presently an enormous amount of room for men to regain their balls and demand more for their labor. That is what the Monarchs are doing and they do it easily because it is trivial for the few to come into union via incorporation versus the many in terms of not accepting low wages.
---------
Just how low should we go? Should we rid ourselves of the laws I mentioned previously? Should we labor for a buck an hour? (I'm not referring to jobs between small numbers of individuals where there are feed back mechanisms which keep folks on the straight and narrow). And even if we did, it allows a sick decadence to reign elsewhere. That in itself should cause one to pause.
---------
A man has to do what a man has to do and I see America as being balanced between the MOB and the MONARCH and I'll continue to press for that realization. Some seem to be catching on.
By the way, American Liberalism is NOT what the media has relayed to people. It is NOT a dividing line between conservative folks and those with a liberal heart. My eyes have rolled back in my head when I've seen Far Left nonsense on this site. So too, far Right.
My own disciplines predispose my head from nearly spining off when I see faux logic across the board. It has to end.
Have a good one, and forgive the length.
Jim
P.S. Remember: Nobody "gives" you a job. Money can be made for self, if folks can be convinced to work for low enough wages. There is nothing wrong with EITHER side of that sword.
Looney,this is wrong.
Earning a decent, living wage is never "too much".
If your rent costs $ 1,600/mo- very low for this area- then earning
$9/hr. means you must share the rent with at least one or two other people
just to make ends meet.
Add the higher costs of gas, groceries and utilities, which have all rising in the past year,
and that $9./hr. is low income.
You want people to support themselves, right?
Paying livable wages will do just that.
YOU don't get it.
Unless the working man is paid a decent wage and there are jobs out there, your stupid little empire crumbles because you don't have anybody to buy your $1.50 soda pop.
You don't need to tell anyone here about hard work. You just saunter on back to your hole-in-the-wall convenience store and when you see your customers come in to buy your over priced crap, be thankful that they still can because if a republican stays in office, your ass is joining us. And not a single one of your republican friends is going to give a crap when they see you flailing about.
MIDDLE ROAD
Yes there are a few of the BIG BOYS that do not pay or treat their people well. As there are a few small business that do the same.
We don't need to whine, but make them understand that their brand is no good. Like changing from gas fuel to solar or wind.
Plant a garden on your balcony or your back yard. reduce the output $ and the input $ will grow. If some start then more will
follow. It all starts with US. What will our next step be????
Lets not try to HOLD OUT lets live our lives and do the best we can. If your happy with your life then you WIN. If your not
happy then change it and your on your way to winning. Better paying jobs are not the answer not everybody deserves more
money for the work done. After all How did the rich get rich???? They worked hard, well at least some of them did or their
ancestors did. It should not be a battle between the have and have nots. IF EVERYBODY PULLED THERE OWN LOAD!!!!
There will always be the big BULLY CORP underpaying and treating its employees badly. We have to expose those Companies and elect officals to call them out and publicly. There is the problem, its not the CORPs being money driven, its the WEAK/Corroupt officals we elect from our locals ones to the national elections being TOO MONEY DRIVEN!!!!
I agree with you on most, but I think the people need to take care of themselves first. As for bathing in strawberries and milk, I know I would like to be able to do that one day. Maybe my grand kids can.
Strawberries and Milk and...
...any other luxuries are fine IF they do no damage elsewhere.
The reality is, that when someone takes more, someone gets less. It's a ZERO sum game except for "invention" which increases everyone's wealth.
----------
As far as attempting to sway Corps. via personal behavior, I agree:
-I have bicycle commuted 7000 miles a year for years on end.
-I'm presently building a solar powered timber framed homestead of my own design and by mostly my own hands.
-etc.
----------
The problem, as I outlined previously, is that real money can still hold out longer than any of us. Further, I once again agree that your philosophy is always true but disagree about its application to the disparity we presently see.
You might not find it a problem yet so lets move the bar: What if wages are cut to third world wages? Most folks would still have to work to gain cash for food and a modicum of medical care.
And the bottom line is that NOBODY GIVES YOU A JOB. The knee jerk reaction on the Right is that someone GIVEs you a job. The knee jerk reaction on the Left is that someone OWEs you a job. The reality is that: Money can be made for oneself if you can get folks to work for a low enough wage. Its a two edged sword. That defines the battle but it has been recast as holy writ for big Corps. to brandish their side while the other side is painted as whining.
Well, boo hoo, they may call me all the names they wish, but I'm looking to beat the snot out of this insanity, and F its corpse.
-------------
At this point I think we have laid out a bit of our arguments. Let me just say this:
I'm a Physicist and it is my opinion that this Nation is in deep shit if Capital is not returned to the vast majority who provide the Labor and Innovation. Genetic variation being what it is, means that future economic and scientific powerhouses are coming out of underpaid folks wombs (since they are the vast majority).
I'm seeing a decline in talent. I'm seeing a drying up of the broad spectrum of brains that make it to Universities. That is going to screw the USA royally and I will not shut up about it. This is not about individuals. This is about statistics: The number of talented brains that make it to Universities is larger when wages are descent.
I could care less if a future Einstein/Feynman SHOULD be able to navigate their way up the ladder starting from poverty wages. Some simply do not. This is not a perfect world. This is a world that needs governing regardless of one's personal emotional bias as to what people should be like.
Anywho, as always, have a good one.
Jim
-----------
Dead skunks and yellow stripes
that's all you'll find in the 'middle.'
There ain't no damned 'middle.' It's a myth. There is the neocon far right extreme and the Green far left extreme.
Liberals are somewhere in between.
I'll remind you that neocons have ruled for eight years, so I'd hardly consider the fact that extremists have been running the place a legitimate argument for appealing to some mythical unicorn made up by political 'strategists' who have such winning ideas as having Gore coached by the SNL team and putting a fake tan on Kerry and telling him to ride motorcycles and hop on the surfboard/bicycle.
I have been watching this
I have been watching this forum with some amusment, and I love it when a tighty-righty gets all teary-eyed about being self-made. American Capitalism is a good thing, or at least it was when Labor Unions were allowed to rein-in the corporate thugs and negotiate fair wages for their members. Ronny Raygun and his neoconservative cabal put an end to that little bit of American fair play -- didn't they? And the neocons have been "conning" the American People ever since.
As far as people becoming "rich" through their own efforts, that not only violates logic (someone has to provide the revenue), but is ludicrous from a business standpoint. No one gets "rich" single-handedly (except as Jim notes, through invention), and most wealth is made by leveraging the labor of others. The idea of a "self-made business man" is a myth, unless the person is a craftsman, artist, or an inventor.
Today's neoconservative fascist politicians have given corporate aristocrats the keys to the U.S. Treasury, and are skimming their political bribes and quid-pro-quo money off the top. The gap between the very rich, and the very poor, is wider in the United States today, than at any time in our recent history.
And Mr. Looney, for what it's worth, this is from a man who has seen combat in the military, been in business for many years, and taken away a few sheckles from Wall Street myself. But I have never, ever, told a fellow American: "I've gotten mine, now you go get yours." Because, you see, REAL Americans are always willing to help those less fortunate, and in need. REAL Americans believe in equality for ALL citizens, and that the U.S. Constitution actually means what it says.
Now toodle on back to your Chamber of Commerce meetings, and leave we Liberal American Democrats to do what needs to be done in order to return this country to some semblance of sanity.
HOW NOT TO GET RICH
Be a Soldier.
Be a Cop.
Be a Scientist.
Wipe our loved ones bottoms when they are dying in the hospital.
Etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want money, do nothing of import. Rid yourself of material tools. Keep only people in your tool kit. People are easy to manipulate, especially since most only desire a reasonable wage, with the rest of their entire life's effort going into building family, their passions, and their Nation.
There are counterexamples, but few and far between. With a Nation so skewed as ours is these days, the time of the effeminate-entrepreneur-god must give way to a realization of just who really does the laboring, soldiering, and innovating in a civilization.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lest folks get the wrong idea:
I'm not disparaging those who sell luxury items. If you open up a lemon aid stand, charge $100 a glass, and someone buys it, then so be it.
Nor with those who provide innovation.
50% of all Americans make less than 1.6 inches of $100 bills per year. 95% make a stack less than 4 inches high. Some in the top 1% make a stack 30 miles high! I'm clearly not fretting over differences amongst the inches crowd.
My beef is with non luxury items which require no innovation: Health Insurance, most Energy Companies, etc. Nobody involved with those entities REQUIRES a large salary in order to continue in that labor. When large sums are made it is due to the Conservative "man without balls" attitude, that whatever the hell a monopoly wishes to pay for labor is AOK.
Just like a dog, they hike prices and lower wages because they can.
The only feedback mechanism is for all of us to give up our own Nation building and "quickly" create competing corporations. Clearly SILLY. The other method is the voting booth. If you want stable Soldier/Laborer making machines (i.e. families) then when the number of Corporations in a given endevour gets too low, only the voting booth remains to regulate them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must now apologize to everyone in the known universe for the length of these posts. I know no way to break through the fog than to work things through aloud.
