Outrageous info I just received about Huckabee...

I received an email today from the Humane Society. Following is a part of the story that was the focus of the email:

"Huckabee was the state’s chief executive for more than a decade, and was largely viewed by animal advocates as an impediment to moderate reforms, or at the very least, someone who never lifted a finger to advance animal welfare.  The governor’s record on animal issues was further tarnished in 1998 when the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Huckabee’s 17-year-old son, David, was fired from his job as a Boy Scout camp counselor because he and another teen allegedly killed a stray dog.  Animal protection groups reported that the boys hanged the dog, slit his throat, and stoned him to death—but the teens were never charged with any crime. "

And further into the article:
"The story about Huckabee's son has been circulating on some blogs, like Dogster for the Love of Dog Blog and The Real Mike Huckabee, but new information has come to light. At the time of the camp incident, a local prosecutor apparently asked the Arkansas State Police to investigate whether David Huckabee violated state anti-cruelty laws. Newsweek broke the story this week that the former director of the state police, John Bailey, says that Huckabee’s chief of staff and personal attorney leaned on him to drop the investigation.  According to Bailey, he refused to play ball, and was fired seven months later. It seems that the governor tried to stop the state police from investigating the cruelty charges against his son, and Bailey’s story is corroborated by the former FBI chief in Little Rock.

At worst, the governor acted unethically and obstructed the police investigation, but even at best, Huckabee and his staff took a “boys will be boys” attitude toward malicious animal abuse.  The governor’s then-chief of staff Brenda Turner belittled the accusations, asking, “Is it normal for the state police to…investigate something that happened at a Boy Scout camp?” Well, it should be. The public wants nothing less, in fact. The Michael Vick case demonstrates what happens when the justice system is allowed to work and when animal cruelty is taken seriously—a star quarterback is brought down to serve a 23-month prison sentence, an example for countless thousands of young Americans. The Huckabee case shows what happens when the system is thwarted—or when cruelty doesn't occupy a serious place in the political arena."

He was just doing "God's

He was just doing "God's work" don't ya know, being the good Christian that he is...

You don't have to be an animal lover

to understand that what was done to this stray dog was complete torture for the pleasure of a kid who didn't get the message that Huckabee purports to be his life's belief. Add to that the fact that Huckabee demanded a cover-up from other official and you have another religious opportunist running for the highest office in the land. Just what we need another religious wacko in high office.

In my book this guy is without redemption!

Terry, I got that same e-mail,yesterday.

It's horrible what was done to that poor dog.

Compounding the heinous crime is the cover up that followed,
especially when his father was involved.

This doesn't have a damn thing
to do with his religion.
David Huckabee is a sick man.
He's far removed from reality and any faith.

There is no other explanation for torturing an animal.

Here in CA, a crime of animal abuse is a felony.
I hope that's the case in other states.

I caught tail end of an interview last night with Huckabee,

Apparently, someone asked him about the article mentioned, and he sounded outraged saying something to the effect: "It's unforgivable to go after a candidates' children!"

This is not about his son, it's about him! He, like anyone else, has limited control over what his children may do. Even the best, most moral families can have problem children.

It's his reaction to his son's actions that concern me. Consider:

"Newsweek broke the story this week that the former director of the state police, John Bailey, says that Huckabee’s chief of staff and personal attorney leaned on him to drop the investigation.  According to Bailey, he refused to play ball, and was fired seven months later. It seems that the governor tried to stop the state police from investigating the cruelty charges against his son, and Bailey’s story is corroborated by the former FBI chief in Little Rock."

Not only did he try to coerce the police to cover the story up, when the director of the state police refused to compromise his duty, Huckabee had him fired!!

Most people will try to protect thier children. There is a right way and a wrong way to do this. As the governor of a state, the right way would have been: to hire a lawyer for his son, to stand by him in court and plea for a suspended sentence, and assure the court and the public that his son would receive whatever counseling the court deemed necessary. And then see to it that his son did indeed get that counseling!

But to try to use the power of his office to cover everything about the crime up entirely? Didn't we see that from someone else? (Hint: his initials were Richard Nixon)

And when other government officers refuse to go along, punish them drastically? Does this remind you of the Justice Department attorneys that were fired?

And his chief of staff:

"The governor’s then-chief of staff Brenda Turner belittled the accusations, asking, “Is it normal for the state police to…investigate something that happened at a Boy Scout camp?” "

Excuse me!??! This was not only a crime, but a heineous crime!! Yes it should have been investigated, and investigated fully!! What if, instead of a dog, the victim would have been a weaker, unpopular boy scout. Ms. Turner appears to believe that because it happened at a boy scout camp, it should not be investigated!!

The Republican party seems to have extreme difficulty with respect for life, truthfulness, compassion, and basic morality. And this is the "party of God" and family values?? When pigs have wings!!

The little minister is bad news

It looks very much as if Huckabee let Dumond out of prison just to spite Bill Clinton and to please the repug Clinton haters in Arkansas. In my book that is ruthless and completely unprincipled. No one needs a leader like Huckabee. Not that anybody on their ticket looks even bearable as president.

Man, the dogs had better run for cover these days. If it isn't a sports hero mutilating dogs, it's a Republican preacher's boy. This world is definitely not going to the dogs; it's going to dog-killers. I guess there's no commandment about killing thy neighbor's dog. Maybe Moses dropped one of the stone slabs.
