America: Live it, Love it or Leave it (Moving out and on...)

As more Americans become convinced that "all is not as it seems", they are confronted with a stark choice between the overthrow of a corrupt system controlled by a greedy few military manufacturers (USA equals 50% of world's weapons market) and their elected benefactors, and their marketing/advertising agents or face certain truths that the time for change, peaceful or otherwise has passed and the time to move on is inevitable.

But where, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, South Africa, Amsterdam? What is your goal, to avoid depression at being forced to watch America's steady, speedy decline, avoiding being at ground zero in a Nuclear War, getting out before a "State of Emergency" prevents it, or to help spread the inspiration of freedom?

We speak of "Freedom", as it used to be defined, before neo-fascists like Pipes, Cheney, Pearle (Richard, not Danny), Wolfowitz, Rummy, Condi and the other Neo-Conjobs re-defined it, which was understood to be as much as a concept than as a way of life.

Moving out of the USA

Having been lucky enough to travel to 27 countries (and multiple cities) in 13 years, I can say, unequivically, there is no Shangra La, here on Earth.

I have experienced children who beg for food (Albania), not money (Egypt) and others who know the want of neither.

I have sat in parks around the globe with homeless youth, not yute :) who starve for love and attention (not medication).

In Barcelona, 2 kids on separate park benches, 3 feet apart. One kid, 19-20 kicked out of his home, by his mother, in Morrocco. The other, same age, kicked out of his home, also by his mom, in Italy.

"You're just like your father," he said, paraphrasing, "nothing but a f-cking loser" His father had split for Thailand, eventually stopped calling. He started to cry, he thought I did not see, I turned my head, he was embarrased. I started to cry myself, they did not see. I have seen so much poverty and suffering in my 50 short years, it goes on without end.

The one kid speaks Arabic, Spanish and English. The other speaks Italian, Spanish and English. I walked in the middle (my life) between the 2 and started a conversation. They had just arrived in town the same morning.

"Do you know him", I asked? "No". "Do you know him"? "No", the other replied.

"So if I hadn't walked up here, between you two, and asked you both questions (looking to party), then introduced you two, you might never have met?

"Breathin' the same friggin' air, share the same space, the same life experience, the same problems and conflicts, and now both here, homeless, yet both alone? That's depressing."

"Homeless", the Morrocan, Mohamed asks, "we will show you homeless is nothing but a state of mind. And I will tell you what's not depressing, I have here 3 free passes to the best dance club in Barcelona with cover and 1 drink included", which he found.

With that they showed me how to jump the turnstile on the subway, (letting other homeless through coming the other direction), and I started to see a whole crowd who exist between the cracks, survive and share amongst themselves.

Once sitting on benches waiting for the train, Renaldo looks around at the crowd, smiles and says "now who are the homeless, who have the homes?" The 'common experience' as the great equalizer; or is it the 'experience in common'?

In the club I bought them a second round and they melted into the crowd. Two hours later, they both had girls under the arms as they existed the club, where they both, no doubt, had a place to stay the night.....

Ask yourself, who were you in this story? What price will you pay for your beliefs? How can we spread hope, not fear?

As Connery says in "The Untouchables" to Kevin Costner, "What are YOU prepared to do?"

Knowing your country has been hijacked, ask yourself that question again....
