Source of funding for SCHIP

Please read this link first- it sounds like a good cause for children's healthcare.
What they don't tell you is the source of funding, not taxes across the board,
no- only taxes on tobacco.
This is dishonest and deceiving.

This is a copy of the response I sent
after receiving this link in an e-mail.

Dear Breeana,

I am for universal healthcare for all,
including uninsured children.

However,I will not support any more legislation
that puts the burden of funding solely on the backs of tobacco users.

Yes, it is very easy to target smokers and others who use tobacco.

But that doesn't make it right.

Californians have had their tobacco taxes increase prices by 130%.
Enough is enough!
The last attempt to increase tobacco taxes in CA failed
to pass last November.
Maybe the voters are trying to say something here.

Everyone should be contributing to this healthcare initiate, not just one group
who is vilified.

Sincerely,

kwahlf

PS- The source of funding for this should be disclosed. Few, if any voters
know where this is coming from.

Make them all pay

Everybody should shoulder any tax burden. I am against smoking, but children's healthcare is supported by people across the board- anyone who wants healthcare should be willing to pay for it, if they can afford it.

That being said, studies have shown the smokers do indeed cause harm to innocent bystanders. Second-hand smoking- not smoking directly- is one of the leading causes of death in this country. I myself am allergic to smoke- that is, I experience an asthma attack when exposed to smoke.

However, I agree that smokers alone should not be taxed- everyone should.

Does this tax include cigars?

Does this tax include cigars?

What will happen to the funds for children's health care if/when the stop smoking programs that the same government is pushing actually work?

Tax & Regulate Marijuana

If you want to pay for Universal Healthcare, we should end the war on marijuana and stop spending $62 Billion every year. Taxing this currently untaxed $162 Billion dollar industry would easily pay for Universal Healthcare for all Americans. Instead of paying police double-overtime to go camping for 2 months every fall so they can pull weeds ( and what do you suppose the criminals are doing while they know that every cop on the force in in the woods?), we should tax and regulate marijuana and make the cops concentrate their efforts on actual crime like murder and rape.
