Democratic House Officials Recruited Wealthy Conservatives

According to Democratic candidates who ran for House of Representative seats in 2006, Rahm Emanuel, then head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, took sides during the Democratic primary elections, favoring conservative candidates, including former Republicans, and sidelining candidates who were running in favor of withdrawal from Iraq....

...According to Doug Thornell, spokesperson for the DCCC, "The policy of the DCCC is not to get involved in primaries, unless there is an unusual circumstance that demands it. I cannot speculate on what those circumstances might be. The majority of these cases [2008 primaries] will be left up to the voters on the ground. Meddling hasn't taken place this cycle, and for the most part last cycle. That isn't an accurate way to describe what happened. We are cognizant of having local support for our candidates."...

However, a source close to the DNC indicated that there was disagreement between Dean and Emanuel over election tactics. In his recent book, "The Thumpin'," Naftali Bendavid, a journalist who spent months inside the DCCC operation and at Emanuel's side, reported a heated conversation between Dean, Emanuel and Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) regarding election strategies of the DCCC and the DNC. At the time, Dean was focusing on helping local organizations across the country to mobilize their communities to support Democrats. Emanuel wanted to focus the resources of the national party on specific races that were the most likely to be competitive for Democrats. According to Bendavid, Emanuel said to Dean, "You're nowhere, Howard. Your field plan is not a field plan. That's fucking bullshit ... I know your field plan - it doesn't exist. I've gone around the country with these races. I've seen your people. There is no plan, Howard."

How Emanuel came to his decisions about which candidates to support against Democratic opponents is known only to Emanuel and his staff. Emanuel declined direct comment on this story. But an examination of individual races reveals a pattern of financial and political support for wealthy conservative candidates and an assault on their grassroots-supported opponents who were running on platforms that included a full withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.

A neoconservative is a

A neoconservative is a neoconservative, and the DLC, DCCC, and DSCC are run by New Democrat neocons.

Yes...Emanuel should be asked to leave Congress and the party

His behavior and support of only Iraq war candidates for his own self interest was evident. He also supported amnesty without any talking about it in the primaries. He supported Tammy for the amnesty when people would have voted for the other candidate if they had known and she had more support from the DLC.

It took awhile but I'm glad the Democratic candidates who were refused because they didn't agree with his agenda finally came forward.

Dennis Hastert (House leader -R-IL) was involved in a land scandal here in Illinois and they couldn't  win against him?  There was a good Progressive Democrat who ran against Hastert but was refused support for his campaign. A very important one running against big money Hastert.

Emanuel (and the DLC, DCCC, DSCC) kept us from having a bigger majority in Congress in 2006 with their amensty and war candidates.  We lost the Republican votes who were very angry at this President  wanting change.

Emanuel should be asked to leave office for election fraud and manipulation. Our Democratic governor can appoint another Democrat to that seat until the next election.   After thinking about it, I'd support Durbin and Obama being removed for their pro-war candidate manipulation also.  I remember all the media hype over Tammy and it made me angry.

These Neo Con Democrats don't represent the members of the party but their own corporate interests. Who asked them?

It is my hope at the Democratic Party convention these Neo Cons (Emanel, Belize, etc.) are removed.  The country and party members are more progressive than middle of the road (or right of the road in the corporate ditch).

obama refused to support dem. congressional candidate in ill.

My wife and I campaigned for Dick Aumen who ran against Manzullo for Congress in 06. Aumen was a marine vet, former teacher, counselor, 2 term mayor of Galena Ill. and endorsed by John B. Anderson and Adlai Stevenson III at a fundraiser they hosted. He also strongly favored withdrawl from Iraq.
We saw Obama in late Sept. or early Oct. at a "town meeting" at Rock Valley Communitee College in Rockford where he repeatedly mentioned names of republican locals with whom he worked, naming only one democrat state rep. He talked about how he worked with Manzullo and did not mention Auman's name. Manzullo wasn't even there while Auman was! Auman had approached Obama's handler earlier and asked him for an endorsement or some kind of support and she said to call his office. I asked his handler and she said the same. Finally I asked the one democrat (Chuck Jefferson) whose name Obama mentioned if he would introduce them and he immediately ushered Auman up to Obama and introduced him. Auman asked if he could talk with him and Obama said "call my office". Auman never received an endorsement or public support of any kind from Obama. This took place around 2 months after Obama had gone to Conn. to campaign for Liieberman. Auman received 30 some percent of the vote and would not have won even with Obama's support but he and others here in northern illinois are trying to build a progressive base and would have benefited from endorsements from obama, durbin and others.

Chicago Tribune supported

Chicago Tribune (Conservative newspaper with Bob Novak, etc.) supported and endorsed candidates Obama and Bean.  The Republican representatives at the time were worse but the replacements weren't really Democrats.  We didn't know that at the time. Now we do.

Bean's excuse was that she representated a Republican area. I reminded her that people voted for a Democrat not a  Republican. The area was turning Democratic (especially after Repubican scandals, etc. in the state).

Since we have  "faux Democrats" who are holding us back to get what we want maybe we should start a petition to remove them?  They violate the Constitution.  They keep the war of "freedom in Iraq" going and keep talking of more countries to attack.  Has any Congress ever turned down a war...even a bad one or false one?  You have to go way back to Adams to see we did not want to attack France who helped us with soldiers and finance a lot of the Revolutionary War.  They ignore the mandate of the  people (a real mandate not a Bush made up one) in the elections.

The people of CT should remove Lieberman Independent or not. How dare he hold us hostage over war, etc.

They continue down the same path of the Neo Cons when we said we were against it in the last election.  We want out of Iraq. We don't approve of "unending wars" of religious bent. We don't want our borders open with illegals flowing here from all over the world. We want to be safe and secure and expect that of our government.  We want good jobs and the WTO disbanded since it has been a folly for us. We want accountabiliity for all the robbery and lies since 2000.  We want citizen investigations of 911, Katrina, Iraq war lies, etc. All that has been ignored with even more lies and fear on top of them.  We're sick of the huge debt destroying our once powerful country. Polls show Americans are fed up with DC corruption and lies.

President Clinton appointed Republicans to his administration. Look where that got him? I guess Obama thinks we will be fooled again by this "uniting and deplomacy".  All the division in the parties is a good thing not bad.  We need choices and candidates who represent us not just occupy a seat in DC (for their own power and wealth).  It's obvious to me that they care little about us and our country. They've got theirs!

Randi Rhodes of Air America was saying she didn't think Kucinich really thought he could win to be President because he says such "outrageous things".  You mean he supports the Constitution, stop the wars, protect the fresh water, get out of debt, etc.?  In the last election for President Democrats wanted his policies but didn't think the media and party hacks would support him so they backed Kerry. Look where that got us!

So where does that leave us?  We have to question our party leaders and candidates demanding they represent us not corporate power and world government.  We should demand candidates not support a anti-Constitutional President who is out of control.  We should demand impeachment of those who lied, manipulated, and robbed us.  Their children and the world deserve more of them.
