The AFL-CIO's Unhealthy Health Care Advocacy

The Boston Globe gets it. The AFL-CIO, even after its members' responses at its presidential candidates debate in Soldier Field, even after this event at the Machinists Union does not. The AFL has launched a campaign in favor of "universal health care" that spells out goals only one presidential candidate supports. But the AFL says it won't back a particular "plan" or a particular candidate. OF COURSE it won't. It will back whoever the corporate media tells it to back. But "plans" that keep the private insurance companies in place do not provide what the AFL is asking for. Only single-payer does that. Only Dennis Kucinich supports it.

We can make a difference.

We all now that  Dennis Kucinich is the best democratic candidate, lets help him. Visit his website and contribute. Write letters to the media and drop his name to every person you meet. The media and the lobbyist already have chosen their favorites, now lets show them ours. We have a say in this presidency. Like Mr. Kucinich says "lets make it happen!" Hillary Clinton is the past, Dennis Kucinich is the future. Hillary Clinton had her turn in the 90s. We don't want to go back to the 90s, lets move foward. Lets help him so he can help us. DENNIS KUCINICH 2008!!

David, please answer a couple of questions that are...

bothering me:

1. Have you ever been a working, dues-paying member of a trade union?

I have: Retail Clerks, IAM&Aerospace Workers, American Federation Of Musicians, and Teamsters.

The picture you paint of the Unions is very like that of the picture you painted of the troops.

2. Are you still on the Kucinich payroll?

Some clarification on your part is highly desirable.

AFL-CIO

I believe that the AFL-CIO is the only union listed giving contributions to La Raza. The rest are various business, groups, and foundations.

Linda, the link isn't working on your post...

try inserting http at the front.

Grinch, she is referring

Grinch, she is referring to a group called The American Resistance Foundation (TAR), which was (they ran out of money) a right-wing, looney-tunes, bigoted, racist group out of Marietta, Georgia with the goal of "securing our borders" by targeting and attacking all Hispanics -- including Americans who were born here.

A particular "term" that TAR focused on was La Raza:

And, the Civil Rights group named after the phrase:

AFL-CIO

OK, I worked with members of La Raza when I was in ...

college almost 30 years ago.

So, are contributions to La Raza a problem or are they part of the solution. Many IAM locals in CA had heavy Hispanic participation.

AFL-CIO

type: www.theamericanresistance.com/race industry/laraza contributors.html click on what every u.s. citizen should know and go down 9 paragraphs where it says, now the following is the sponsorship of la raza and click under that paragraph and it printed out a 21 page list of contributors. AFL-CIO is the 2nd on that list. as a retired member of CWA i was surprised, i thought unions supported better wages, benefits, good working conditions, etc. i didn't think they supported cheap labor and i think la raza supports illegal immigration for cheap labor or maybe it's just the ones here already.

Linda, your link still doesn't work...

just type in the URL--complete--otherwise your html code won't work. Just the URL.

...the IAM donated time and money to groups like La Raza and the Urban League. At the time I worked with them, the La Raza group was helping Hispanic students at the community college level with tutoring and other services. Groups like La Raza take up where government services stop There is considerable activism but much of it is to help targeted groups of people.

The Machinists Union does indeed work for better health care, better income, and all the other perks that come with union membership. I can't quite figure out why you are attacking them--or appearing to.
