Is it true more Americans die ever year due to no health care or substandard health care than terrorists attacks?
Hello
I do charity work at a hospital every Sat am to afternoon.
I was told be one of the nurses that every year in America more Citizens die from lack of health care than ALL the terrorists attacks we have ever had combined.
I cant find any info if this is true . I dont doubt her but if this is true I am going to write all the candidates about this and need facts.
Anyone have any links, etc to help me ?
Thank you

Why does it say n/a as
Why does it say n/a as reply?
N/A usually means 'not applicable' ...where did you see the n/a
If I were you, I would ask your nurse friend where she got her info as to the number of deaths. Include a link to the source if you can get one.

Short answer: Over four
Short answer: Over four times as many Americans die every year from a lack of sufficient health care as have died in all terrorist attacks, at home and abroad.
According to a 2002 study by the "Institute of Medicine", a "non-profit organization of experts that advises Congress on health issues", over 18,000 people per year die in the US because of, basically, a lack of health insurance.

Figures posted on Senator Barack Obama's web site suggest the numbers of those without insurance have gone up by roughly 17% since then (from 40M total to 47M total wh's employers don't provide insurance, but make too much to qualify for government programs) so, presumably, the death toll has risen with it. If the percentages are the same, the new number would be 21,519 deaths per year from lack of insurance.
Some quick research and math leads me to a total number of US citizens killed by terrorist attacks, at home and abroad, of less than 5000. So, even if we included all US casualties in Iraq as "insurgent" attacks, which would be wholly inappropriate, the total number would still be less than half as many Americans as die every year due to an inadequate access to health care.

I found this information on a very odd sounding site, but the info looks solid.
