Who Will Take Cindy Sheehan's Place As SPOKESPERSON?To answer the question of who will take Cindy Sheehan's place as spokesperson, first we must ask who CAN take her place. What one person can do all the work of making policy change happen in America? The short answer is that NO one person flying solo can do that. Even Cindy herself could not do that, and notwithstanding her own personal valor she never even had a chance of doing that. Because democracy can only happen when each of us speaks for OURSELVES. ACTION PAGE: Where did the people ever get the idea that they NEEDED a spokesperson? It's really the same thing with our members of Congress. We can't just depend on them to automatically represent our interests just because we voted for them, unless we are constantly telling them what we want them to do. And when they dramatically fail to represent the will of the people, as last week in the latest appropriation for the occupation without accountability or end, who is to blame if the people are not continuously pressing their petitions for grievances? Last week is profound evidence that STILL not enough of us are speaking out yet. Of course the pathological failure of Congress to press for impeachment, and of Cheney in particular, is diagnostic of all other ills. Until Congress actually confronts a criminally out of control White House there is fundamentally nothing to constrain them from smirking and sneering their way to even greater disasters for America in the next 18 months. Impeachment is the one thing that Congress can do which cannot be vetoed or stalled in the courts they now predominantly control with crony appointments. Do you want a peace movement to succeed? Understand that until the day they are constitutionally removed from office there can NEVER be even a glimmer of peace. And the best place to start is by removing the least popular, and most guilty, of them all. So have you, or have you not, voted in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll? And even if you have, still read on for there is so much more you need to do. We sometimes get emails from people demanding to know from us why this has not happened yet. And when we read such an email the first thing we do is look at the bottom to see if they have added the following THREE LINES to their email signatures, as we have asked everyone to do. Vote in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll If not, there's your answer, folks. Stop asking why OTHER people aren't doing more to make this happen, and ask yourself why YOU are not doing more to make this happen. True democracy is not driven by charismatic celebrity personalities. Democracy only works when each of us does whatever we personally can do, whatever thing, however small, however UN-celebrated, to make it work. At the moment when each of us does that, policy change will happen instantaneously. When you go to submit the action page above, to cast your vote in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll, you will find a link where you can read the last 25 personal messages added by your fellow constituents. EVERY one of those comments has just as much validity as every other one. Many are astounding in their articulateness, more so than any smug, self-aggrandizing pundit you've ever read. Even those messages with typos and grammatical errors are astounding in their authenticity. The people don't need a spokesperson. The people need to PERSONALLY speak out. The people's movement does not need a "face". What it needs is a BODY. What it needs is MASSES of us engaged in caring about making policy change happen, each of us doing what we can do to make that a reality. And if you have already voted in the poll yourself (as more than 50,000 already have) there are a million other things you can do to build the momentum of the people's impeachment movement. Can you write an alert? Draft your own in your own words and send it to everybody you know, and send them to the Action Page above. Do you have a web site of your own? Add an action button for the impeachment poll as dozens of sites have done already, and you can display a dynamic tally as the votes add up. Here's where you get the code. ACTION BUTTONS: Do you ever post to blogs? Use that activity to encourage everyone you can to vote in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll. Do you EVER send an email to anybody? Add the three line signature above to all your emails automatically by making it your email signature setting. Do the same thing with your blog posts too. And then AFTER you have done ALL these things, then check in with us again and see how quickly impeachment becomes a reality. Let us measure the worth of our activism not by the prominence and loudness of our own voices, but by the number of OTHER people we can inspire to speak out. So again, ask yourself, what have YOU done to make this happen? Get off of your ass. There is nobody else who can carry your piece of democracy on their shoulders. Stop expecting or depending on spokespeople to speak for you or represent you. We can more efficiently and directly transmit your messages, but we don't have to give you the power. You already had it. Now, use it. Cindy did WAY more than her share. When will you do yours? What's the last thing Cindy said to you? "It's up to you now." It's always been up to us alone. Do you get it?

Cindy Sheehan
I hope that whoever takes over as spokesman for the peace movement for Cindy Sheehan (I didn't know she was elected to this post) does a more effective job. Cindy was effective at first but she tried milking too much out of the "grieving face" (that became extremly old to view after the 1 millionth time). Instead of focusing on her issue with Bush not talking to here, she branched out into hauranging HIllary Clinton and talking about running against Diane Feinsten. The final straw was when she came out on the positive side of Hugo Chavez. I love Hugo Chavez and wish him well in debasing the Bush Administration. However what does Hugo Chavez have to do with Bush not talking with Cindy about her son's death? Nada. The biggest problem with Cindy Sheehan was that she didn't know when to quit while she was still effective. I hope the next unelected spokesman for the peace movement learns from Cindy's miskates and focuses on the issue, not the topic du jour. Good riddance, Cindy
No, Cindy was indeed not elected by anyone as a...
Peace Spokesman. She was a woman, a mother who had suffered the loss of a son in Iraq. She began alone, while most of us were involved with making the keys on our keyboards produce nothing but mostly empty rhetoric.
Operating alone for the most part, Cindy electrified the nation as she singlehandedly took on the Bush machine. Out of her individual effort, she managed to get a focus on this unjust and illegal war and administration.
One by one, people joined with Cindy and made things happen. Because of her efforts, Bush was blockaded in any location, behind his ranks of secret service and the hordes of Repugnants who stood with their 'champion.'
She had one major point to make and she made that point. Much of our party got behind her and joined her movement. Grass roots involvement at it's very best.
In the end, Repugnant-speak attempts to downplay the positive things that Cindy accomplished. If it is time for her to go, where are the people willing to go on point as she did? They certainly aren't coming from our leadership. And, they certainly are not coming from her critics.
Cindy opened a path that was followed by many. It was an effective path. To deny the good that she did, in the name of her son, is in exceedingly bad taste.
Good Riddance Cindy you say. Stuff it!
Our debt to Cindy, as a nation, as a people, as a party, and as individuals is real. She was the spearpoint that got us collectively out into the streets.
A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.
Cindy did just fine
I think Cindy did what she was supposed to, particularly being a self-critical part of the anti-war movement. Her criticisms of Moveon.org are accurate, they operate as a very authoritarian and overly-aggressive organization, and they are not alone. They are not about grassroots at all, but then, neither are most groups on the so-called "Left" or "progressive movement." This played-out in similar ways 100-years-ago with various upper-middle class individuals (and wealthier) hijacking that particular movement. The goal is to soften our demands.
A lot of the the problems surrounding--and penetrating--the progressive and democratizing trends in America are a tendency in our culture towards authoritarian thinking, wrapped in the cult of personality. We invested our ideals, principles, and hopes in Cindy--it was wrong to expect her to have to shoulder so much, and I never did. She has brought a lot of attention to inter-connected issues, and whether anyones likes it or not, she's in the history books now.
She has done fine-by-me, and we need to applaud her and her sacrifices. She was never meant to be a "spokesperson," and didn't want it. She just stated her sincere-feelings and conclusions about the war and the issues surrounding it. Visiting Chavez is certainly a related issue considering much of the war is about the control of oil in the Middle East and Central Asia. Venezuela has some of the largest-deposits of oil in the entire world, and with petroleum being at the prices they are, it's now economical for Chavez and his nationalized industry to extract it from the Orinoco River basin--more than Saudi Arabia, President Cheney's employers...
