Dump Electoral College to Stop Republican Cheaters?
Last I heard, Ohio was engineered by republican cheaters by using RNC servers to tally votes. The same servers, IIRC, that were used to store Rove's super duper top secret email. That was, until someone came sniffing around. Then it all went missing.
POOF!!!
Would dumping the Electoral College make it harder for the cheaters who can 'win' no other way? What are the pros/cons? Could it be done?
Why do we still have an Electoral College in this technological era, anyway?

Why do we still have the
Why do we still have the Electoral College? So the corporate pimps and their lobbyists can get their campaign "donations" back (with interest) in just a few highly-populated states.
The answer to almost any question concerning our political process these days is the same: follow the money.
Seems that
If that's the reason, it's a new one since I don't believe there were corporations when the electoral college was set up. It would appear that if that's the reason we still have it, it's because our system of democracy has been pimped out and it needs to be fixed.
Lootie, I don't believe that
Lootie, I don't believe that the Founders could have envisioned the scale on which Big Money has taken over the political process in this country. Our system of democracy has been "pimped out."
They did, however, have the foresight to embed a mechanism for change and growth into the Constitution: the Amendment process. Maybe the Electoral College would still be workable, if campaign finance were limited to a fixed amount of public financing only, and an even playing field for all candidates.
And yes, I can already hear the same old, tired, arguments about the First Amendment, free speech, and "Corporate Personhood." Those arguments make about as much sense as the NRA's assertion (with BA backing) that suspected criminals have the Second Amendment right to buy, and "bear arms."
Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine to the public airwaves wouldn't hurt either...
Lootiemaye, I've been
All them RED states, y'know, those with two...
Repugnants and 10,000 jackrabbits won't like not having to electoral college to protect and enhance their two votes against states like Texas, Florida, California, New York.
The lightly-populated Red States would have no clout were the college to be abolished.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.
But they don't have clout
now, either. Elections are apparently decided by little fat men named Rove who hide behind curtains and set up vote tallying on the same RNC servers that store their email until someone comes sniffing around.
The argument that the small states would have no voice doesn't apply when the only voices being heard now are coming from a small herd of cheaters.
Lootimaye I've been
One person, one vote...
...is the only way to even begin to have semi-fair elections in this country. The electoral college is the easiest system to rig. Elections will always be tainted. Somewhere, somehow, votes will be lost, not counted, counted twice, etc. And campaign finance reform will be manipulated, so that would end up being one more long dodge. A system of popular voting , one person-one vote, with paper ballots, is the closest we can come to open and honest elections I think.
Dirty Tricks
Well, they have a few dirty tricks besides using the soldiers gone to war. One of them is if you are a new constituate, you have to register to vote upon reciept of obtaining a drivers LC. Then you are never contacted with information to where your voting location is to be established and you have to run all over trying to get that established. If you work the 9-5 or any time after the court house closes..... everything you need, you have to hunt it down in order to find out information, which is kept secret. Everything you need to do and know has to be done in advance for if it isn't you will be left standing outside of the voting location after 7pm. You would be amazed at how many will throw up their hands going through this process.
Simple information is hidden or concealed. Specially if you say you are a Democrate or Independent. Now if you are Staunch Republican, their standing at your door or they are pounding your door off the hinges. There are so many manipulative maneuvers they work in the process to obscure votes it is mind blowing. So you have to be on your toes and ahead of the game if you plan on attempting to cast a vote.
