Dixie Chicks Grammy victory, a win for artistic expression.Did the Grammy Awards make a political statement last night when they awarded the Dixie Chicks with five Grammy Awards? Yes, but it was not the statement right wingers believe. The Chicks win was a matter of artists standing up for artists. We all thought that artists being blacklisted for their politics had ended with Joe McCarthy. I think the Grammy voters realized that if it could happen to the Dixie Chicks it could happen to them as well. WAY TO GO CHICKS.

It was great to see this victory for them. (link included)

Without a doubt, last night marked the most enjoyable Grammy show
I have ever seen for this very reason.
The 'Chicks' were ostracised by many of their former fans for
Nathalie's statement, criticizing George W. Bush.
The song they performed ' Not Ready to Make Nice', spelled out the crap and
hate they had to deal with in the aftermath. This included death threats.
The five Grammy Awards they won show us that not only did the Dems. take back
the House and Senate, but talented Country Music artists will not lose their jobs
because they criticize George W!
Hurrah for The Dixie Chicks!
Progressives should honor the Dixie Chcks.
They had to win a battle that we all thought was won forty years ago.
As a retired classical musician...
I'm not a big fan of country-western. But musically, these ladies took their talent and put together not only a good show, but made their case for their protests. They have been exonerated.
The 'chicks' know their business and they protested against Dumbya who knows how to do nothing.
Some of their songs are the equal of any produced during the angst of Nam.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.

I will say
I don't think anything was "given" to these young ladies. I am not personally much of a country fan, but I remember before the flap about Bush how many people around here I knew that loved thier music. My girlfriend is a huge fan and I made sure to buy her every single Dixie Chicks CD after I heard their story. The fact of the matter is they were very talented country music artists, and they had every right to voice their opinion which I happen to agree with.
I have listened to their "crossover" CD they were forced to make due to the idiocy of country music stations. It is very good. It showed great diversity as musicians to be forced to change your style and come up with a CD worthy of 5 grammys. Does anyone really believe that they just give these awards away because they feel sorry for someone? The Chicks are pretty, talented, and deserve their accolades. With all the Paris Hiltons running around it is nice to see real patriotic young women who are real role models for girls and young women in this country. Dixie Chicks, you rock, keep making CDs and I will keep buying them just to support what you stand for, freedom of speech!!!!!!!
As a Texan
I will disagree in part with Ms. Maines' comment about dubya. I disagree that he's a Texan, but otherwise AMEN, Sister! I'm embarrassed that Texans let this outsider Damn Yankee take claim to the position of governor and the title of Texan. I don't say the damn yankee part to disparage northerners in general, but to me bush is one who deserves to be called damned yankee, because he's got the elitist mindset of some of those so called brahmins. I will now quit while I'm not too far behind :P
How about
Carpetbagger. That is the worst of the "damn yankees" down here.
I love you guys!
Haha, the texan comment was hilarious! As a southerner I completly agree, carpetbagger!! And I have always loved the Dixie Chicks, but I had stopped listening to country music for a while because of people like Toby Keith, but once the Dixie Chicks issue happened, I'm buying all of their CD's and I admire them so much. Yay for the Dixie Chicks!!
