Are the Democrats rolling over and playing dead for George W.?????I was a member of the Democratic party for a long time, and was expecting that the party would regain control of the House and Senate come November 7th. I was right about the Democrats regaining power, but wrong about the party being serious about impeaching President Bush. Why is Rep. Pelosi and Howard Dean, etc, rolling over and playing dead for George W.??? Why did the Democratic party go to such lengths to regain control of the House and Senate if it wasn't going to go along with the wishes of the people - that Bush needs to be impeached AND removed from office? I'll tell you why - because the party was using the American people's anger with Bush to get it's foot in the door. The Democratic party used this to gain political power, and nothing more. Pelosi and Dean refuse to consider impeachment, even though many, many Americans are insisting that it happen. We shouldn't allow the President off the hook. But Pelosi doesn't care. Oh, she said something about having 'hearings', but that amounts to only alot of talk, talk, talk and no action whatsoever. So, I called Rep. Pelosi's office and told her assistant what I thought of this. In addition, I told someone I know on the NY State Democratic Committee what I thought and said that I wanted my appointment to a committee to be put on hold. She pretty much disagreed with me and said I needed to "tow the line," which I refuse to do. I am an independent thinker. So, I went to the County Democratic chairman today and gave him my new enrollment card. I left the Democratic party and am now registered as not belonging to any particular party. I gave a great deal of moral support to this party, and for what? I have been used and betrayed. This just isn't right. Thanks for nothing, Ms. Pelosi! Thanks loads for letting this criminal (Bush) get away w/o being penalized! Way to go!

I'm not exactly sure what is expected of leadership that isn't leading yet?!?

The advice being given to
The advice being given to Democrats by Greens and "Independents" is pretty amazing. It seems like about half of them want us to "forgive and forget," and the other half want the trials to begin no later than yesterday.
Never mind that pesky old war in Iraq, or the need for Democrats to actually wait for the new Congress to convene. And, forget the fact that after the transition, Speaker Pelosi can not prevent the introduction of articles of impeachment regardless of her personal stance.
give them time.
they barely got control of congress. wait for the excitement to settle and a solid plan to form. although, Pelosi has said that impeachment is off the table. Maybe theyre playing safe in hopes of taking the white house in 08.
Re: Give them time?
They're always waiting for the next election while they didn't fight for the last one. They don't even wait until all the votes and fraud is investigated. It's Bush! Bush won like they are relieved about it.
They then tell us things will be different under them when it is not.
We are hanging on a thread in this Fascist state while people are dying and they're waiting? Who says the next election will even happen? Or they once again run candidates who want to lose and support policies hated by all Americans?
"Actions speak louder than words."...Democrats.
It's politics
Realistically, this is exactly what I expected if they gained any type of power this year. I'm sure deep down that there are a lot of Democrats in Congress who would like nothing more than to be able to successfully impeach Bush and friends, but they know that their time may be better served to do what they can to govern well and to earn the privilege bestowed on them from the voters.
They know that if they impeach, they have to have their cases lined up and it had better be a slam dunk case, because every second they spend in Congress talking about impeachment is one second they could be using to get their constituents better health care, better jobs, better education, and safer lives. While a lot of Americans may want Bush not to be president anymore, they would rather be getting paid more, or getting health insurance, or knowing that someone they know in Iraq may be coming home earlier than whenever their tour ends and they are stop-lossed into staying longer. It's important that if they want to accomplish anything, and to keep the Republicans on the whole out of power, they have to do what is good for the country and their constituents which has a direct impact on those people's lives. What is necessary now is for the Democrats to prevent things from getting worse, and start fixing the problems we are facing as a nation, because when it comes down to it, impeaching Bush isn't going to bring anyone back to life or restore anyone's job. They know that, and they cannot let their emotions dictate their actions right now.
I completely understand why people want to impeach Bush. Believe me, I do. If it were to happen, I would be very happy and I think it is deserved and just, however, I can not say that it is what is best for the country as a whole right now. If the Democrats focus on making life better for people in America, and let the Republicans continue their recent self-destructive actions and their problems of putting party before country, the Democrats will begin an era of being in charge. Bush will be gone either way in 2 years, and if the Republicans don't change their tune immediately, a lot more of them will be gone as well.
Also, I do not recall any or at least very many Democrats visibly calling for impeachment of Bush as something they wanted to accomplish providing they were elected. They said a lot of about Iraq, health care, education, national security, education, poverty, the economy, medical research, taxes, and a lot of other things, but I do not specifically recall anyone saying in their campaign event or literature that impeachment was central to what they wanted to do and why someone should vote for them. Some might want to, some might not, but if I were a betting person, and I am, I would bet that they do not end up impeaching Bush, and if they do, that it will succeed.
Impeach Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean and John Conyers!!!
For aiding and abetting an on-going criminal enterprise. I couldn't be more disgusted with the leadership of the Democratic Party if I were a Republican.
What in the hell?
Exactly what "criminal enterprise" are you referring to.
The BA? We know that, already.
"Aiding and abetting"? Now you sound like a Republican.
Btw; you are skating on very, very thin ice here.
I was referring to their
I was referring to their recent comments about taking impeachment 'off the table'.
Either you are persuing the criminals, or you are abetting the criminals.
Diana June and Ishmael...I think you both, in your zeal...
have misread what Madame Speaker Pelosi has said vis-a-vis impeachment.
What she said was: "...impeachment is off the table."
That doesn't mean it won't happen. It means it is not a bargaining chip in bipartisan negotiations.
Reread her statement and give it all the different meanings that come with such a statement. Consider that Speaker Pelosi will not take over until January...that the new House will not be seated until January. That the new Chairpersons of the committees will not take over their committees until January.
Investigations start in committee. Discovery and documentation start with the actions of the new committees. The neo-cons will be on those committees, but are in the minority(powerless for the most part). Study what the neo-con committees have done over the past 6 years--dems were not even allowed, in some cases, to be in the room when things were discussed.
Once January rolls around, then apply all the pressure you are capable of. Witnesses UNDER OATH are going to be sweating--they all will have major reasons to.
January, not now, is when the fireworks start.

Pelosi, Dean, and Conyers
have betrayed us once again. It is not suprise after the stolen elections is it?
We might consider taking away their power in the party starting with states support of them.
Dean's been hiding as much as Cheney regarding many issues.
Impeach ALL involved to restore any sense of righteousness
integrity, honor, justice, common decency or whatever concept of greatness that rings our bells.. Those that say it is not about revenge are RIGHT.. Even past the intense anger(many of us are not)there is no way that we can allow the Bush administration to get away with their massive offenses against the USA and humanity in general. How do we give our children and grandchildren any sense of right and wrong if we allow these despicable examples of authority to walk away arrogantly free?!!!! NO!! They NEED to be prosecuted and convicted to the fullest extent of our laws before Bush/Cheney/Rove and brood meddled with them!!
Forward ALL impeachment rally information to everyone we can
and ask them to forward to their friends as well. I have to work Saturdays, but had I known about the Philadelphia rally sooner I would have made plans to be there. I guess that I don't come on this site often enough.. I will try to do better.
Bitter?
Why partake in the offering of bitter fruit when we have secured ripe, delicious fruit for all?
When you hear the wailing and the gnashing of teeth these days, know that it isn't coming from a progressive!
Amen, Blue Planet.
It is so good to have you back.
Welcome back.
;-)
It's good to be here!
I always did have a certain affection (or affliction) for responding to misguided posters who come here to pervert our efforts!
: )
LOL!
I hear you.
;-)
Bitter is not the generating force behind IMPEACHMENT
It is in the realm of restoration of the greatness of the US. Any sense of dignity, honor, justice, common decency, integrity, and good will towards men, compels impeachment, presecution, and conviction of all responsible for massive offenses of the Bush Administration.
The path to impeachment is
The path to impeachment is by having very specific, detail oriented hearings backed by subpeona power.
It should be handled in a dignified procedural stepwise matter, not a mindless sloppy witch-hunt. If the Democrats are methodical and follow the facts, (and the money) I am sure we will find impeachable offenses.
But the fact remains that you have to do your homework first and establish a record BEFORE you run around yelling impeachment.
I used to work as an associate for a former U.S. prosecutor turned defense attorney who would always say that a US Attorney's indictment was like a fine tailored suit. They always took their measurements before they presented it to the "client."
So, I am sorry to say that it is really very silly to attack Pelosi or other responsible Dems right now for not putting the cart before the horse. When the record is established, then they will be able to say impeach. Until then, it's about taking measurements.
Also, my "bitter" comment was directed to those posters who know better - If it goes over your head, then so be it - or if you know what I mean and feign ignorance then... smile for the camera : )
MIndless witch hunt?! I believe that mindless would have to be
a state of thinking we had to HUNT for the criminal acts that are not only staring us in the face but wiggling their fingers from their ears while sticking their tongues out at us! People have suffered great hardships, torture and death at their hands.
More to the point...I seriously doubt that any part of your post went over anyones head..and the feigning is not coming from this end.
The Devil is in the Details!
So what part of responsible and meticulous evidence gathering are you opposed to?
I guess we should respond by sticking our fingers in our ears and yelling "impeachment" at the top of our lungs! Forget evidence gathering and procedure! Mob rules, just like with the GOP!
Sorry, but we won't be as irresponsible as the GOP, like they were with Iraq. You do your homework first, then you proceed.
Besides, we were elected because the public was tired of being run by impatient, impetuous children - the electorate wants adults to take control for a change.
If (when) the record demands it, results will follow. One step at a time, the rest is hysteria and distraction.
CT needs HELP!
I really have to believe that there is some sort of voting fraud in CT.. Because of our trivial electoral votes, it isn't used in Presidential elections BUT........John(criminal)Rowland was "elected" for 3 terms. I NEVER and STILL have not EVER spoken with ANYONE that will admit to have EVER voted for him!! I am SERIOUS. Most people expressed total contempt for him. His conviction got him a year in a plush federal prison..(c'mon a criminal is a criminal..why should we be concerned with their "dignity"?!!) Consequences should be even worse for people who have harmed so many MORE!! Why is their punishment so trivial?!!
Back to the point.Old pop Bush said Rowland was like a son to him...that pretty much confirmed our perceptions of him as a crook. The point is many of us believe Rowland is still running CT through Rell!! It may have been the Republicans that got Lieberman in but the REST? Please!! What can we do?
It's February 20th 2007, why no call for impeachment?
I agree with the beginning of this post that I feel used by the Democratic party. Since there is no move towards impeachment let's move forward on a different front. This impeachment movement needs to get radical. How do we do this? Since nothing is going to happen with the Democrats in Congress we need to send them a message that support for them in 2008 is off the table. Let's start a concerted effort for a third party candidate.
Write to the 535 members of Congress and let them know we no longer support their agenda. Let Howard Dean know that there is an effort underway to pull support for the status quo.
Why do you feel used by the Dem party?...You obviously...
ain't one. The truth frequently hurts. Who did you vote for in election 2000?
The world wants to know Wilkinson.

well who put them in congress
we did and we can have them removed. The way I see it if they don't know how to get their job done the way we want them to show them the door.
Show them the door
Between elections. Get a petition to remove them in each state.
I'd replace Joe Lieberman first. I think he used Republicans to get power. Who are those who support him?
Replace Democrats who support the WTO trade deals and the war.
Are there Democrats out there willing to run in their place?
National strikes might work but we won't have the support of the union heads. They sold out a long time ago.
Can I enjoy my wage increase first?
Man, I really need to spend more time here.
