We Demand a Special Prosecutor for "Jeff Gannon"SIGN THE PETITION * SIGN THE PETITION * SIGN THE PETITION To: George W. Bush, Alberto Gonzales, Congress, and the Media We demand the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the "journalist" using the pseudonym "Jeff Gannon" (James Dale Guckert) who attended daily press briefings at the White House and was regularly called upon by Scott McClellan. Obviously "Jeff Gannon" is not a bona fide journalist and should never have been given White House press credentials. In 2003, top White House officials gave "Jeff Gannon" exclusive access to an internal CIA memo that named Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, as a covert CIA agent. It is obvious that there was a conspiracy between "Gannon," McClellan, and other top White House officials to run "smear" campaigns against White House "enemies" and to interfere with tough questions by real White House reporters. This is unacceptable in a Democracy.
These issues go infinitely beyond the charges involving Monica Lewinsky and therefore demand immediate investigation and prosecution.

Male prostitutes?
'Gannon's' links to male prostitution remind me of the Franklin Coverup, which was a scandal that involved both Poppy Bush and Reagan.
These regressive fascists apparently weren't finished. It's hard work!
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
Moonie?
I wonder what ever happened to all the people named in that article. The writers have gone on to illustrious careers in journalism, and one even covers G.W. and is a fauning religious fan. But one wonders how this story disappeared. Was the prostitution ring a spy ring?
On the Gannon story, one wonders if he will turn out to have any other even more surprising connections and links. We really do not yet know a whole lot about him - his every day information. And that is quite interesting.
Great job with the call for the prosecutor Democrats.com!
By the way, for the record, so that I'm not a hypocrite on this whole Gannon thing, Politedem is NOT my real name. It is a pseudonym. :)
I remember when
I first saw Talon news online....I was looking for a site page I had read a few days prior and was directed by Google to Talon instead of the site I was looking for, which was talion.com. Here's a cached page

Now isn't that interesting?
Nah, I think it's 'Talon'
I haven't performed any searches but I don't think there's an 'i' in there.
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
Yes
talon is the correct spelling for the currently controversial website. Talion.com, however, was a site owned by Bev Harris back when I first read about her voting machine work at scoop.nz
no, it's not interesting, it's irrelevant
There's no connection between Gannon and Harris other than your typing error.

A retired journalist comments
As a veteran journalist of 45 years and who worked in Washington DC, I am appalled at the dishonesty that emanates from the Executive Mansion. This latest, involving phony press credentials for a biased neocon whose apparent sexual proclivities are at odds with the people he claims to represent, takes the cake. It is just another example of how this administration is bound and determined to destroy all the good that has been created over the years. This country should be outraged but unfortunately, fully half of us think its perfectly okay. I am glad I am retired but I would come back if I thought I could have an effect on these people.

doesn't this make you want to get back into the fray?
Dan Froomkin, the Washington Post columnist, said Wednesday in an online chat, "the heat should be on" Scott McClellan: "Why did he call on Gannon? Did they ever pre-arrange anything? Did they have contact with his parent organization?"
doesn't this make you want to get back into the fray?
Another intriguing issue is his involvement, along with the better-known Robert Novak, Judith Miller, and others, in the Valerie Plame/CIA episode. Gannon's name turned up on a list of reporters targeted for questioning by the federal prosecutor in the case. Froomkin of the the Washington Post wrote last spring that "the reason Gannon is on the list is most likely an attempt to find out who gave him a secret memo that he mentioned in an interview he had with Plame's husband, former ambassador and administration critic Joseph Wilson."

Getting back into the fray
Dinamic asked if all that is going on makes me want to get into the fray. I have gotten into so many frays, I myself became frayed. Watergate, Vietnam, assassinations, etc. Its kinda nice now to sit back and let the younger guys slug it out, but its true, I am like the old fire horse. When the bell rings, he sure wants to get hitched up and head to where the action is.
Nowadays, I am not sure I could handle the stench coming from the Hill. It is utterly amazing how supposedly educated people can be so blind to what is so obvious, that we have an incompetent in office and he is trashing everything that his overlards (my term for: fatheads) tell him to trash. And they call themselves "patriots". I think even Nixon would want to kick their butts.
When White House shill Jeff G
When White House shill Jeff Gannon was “outed” and his collusion with Press Secretary Scott McClellan made clear as Windex, the only question remained is how will the Grand Old Propaganda (GOP) spin machine pull another fast one on the unsuspecting American public?
Unfortunately, if recent events are any indication, the GOP engine of disinformation won’t have to knock itself silly. With television, radio and the internet already saturated with “Fair and Balanced” Foxification news outlets, tax-payer supported payola pundits (Armstrong Williams et al), and press pimps of the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh and Drudge, all that is required is the reframing of a few GOP talking points farmed out to the aforementioned dubious media outlets and Mr. “Gannon” could very well turn up smelling like a rose.
My question: Who was paying him?
First Armstrong Williams, now this! Was it our tax dollars paying this guy's salary too? I would not put it past this administration.
There was a good clip on this on CNN's Anderson's 360. Why am I so surprised?! Bush and Gonzalez investigate this? I don't think so. We'll see. Evidentely pretty boy has quit his job as a reporter. They probably paid him off to quit (with our tax dollars) and hoping this story will just go away.
My guess
My guess is that they showed him the door once he was outed. I sure hope that this story gets investigated thoroughly. With all that they have managed to sweep under the rug I am a bit skeptical. I do so want to be proven wrong on this one.

Special Prosecutor
I am all in favor of demanding a special prosecutor, but I think the scope of his/her authority should be far broader than just Mr. Guckert/AKA Gannon's shenanigans. It should ferret out the truth from the broadest range of government-financed propaganda programs -- those paid from PR funds in the Education Department's budget, as well as any funds from the CIA's budget, including the money they earn surreptitiously and outside the acountability of Congress through their well documented international drug peddling program (See former DEA agent Michael Levine's writings on this subject).
Like Republicans, you're using gays as a demonizing element.
The falsification of credentials isn't enough? You have to sensationalize it by bringing a gay sex scandal into it? Playing the Republican card of using gays as a demonizing element?
My esteem for your organization has just plummeted through the floor.
Will Bower
Washington, DC
Would it have been okay with
Would it have been okay with you if it were a hetero who brought hookers into the WH? A hooker, is a hooker, is a hooker, regardless of sexual persuasion.
Hello Will
What if he brought young female hookers to the WH, Will, would that be ok to mention? I assure you that we would, loud and clear. Isn't a hooker a hooker no matter what sex? I don't know that we know if that charge is even true and if it isn't then I agree we don't need to spread lies, but in my book illegal is illegal. The party that has taken it upon itself to be in charge of the public morals had better be very very clean.
Then there is the little problem of Monica and how they used her to cripple Clinton. Do you know that the majority of the people who tried to impeach Clinton for an affair were having affairs themselves at the time? It is in no way "using gays", illicit sex is just that. The Grand Hypocracy Party set the rules for what was and was not acceptable behavior and made a huge complaint that an affair had taken place in the White House. Now you can be sure that we will do our best to show them for the hypocrits that they are, if we have the proof.
I don't think for most of the people here it matters, who
has sex with whom. It is the complete hypocracy of a party that claims to have won election, because they have the moral high ground and preached hatred of gays all across America, then being caught hiring young men (or women) for sex.............if they did.
I think it would be a good idea if you get to know us for more than a few minutes, before you judge us.

If the 'man' is connected with gay prostitution
he's the one who did it. This is what is wrong with our press. Everyone is running around worried that they're going to upset someone.
If it's the truth, we have a right to know about it.
I think you're somewhat obsessed with the 'gay' part. Do you think gays should be involved in prostitution? If he is connected with prostitution, that's illegal in most states, last I heard.
If you believe that someone who is connected with prostitution should be sitting with the WH Press Corps and interviewing the POTUS, that's fine, but the fact is that some of us might have objections to that and we have a right to know about it.
If media weren't getting the payola they are, perhaps this would be on more just internet blogs.
It's not like male prostitution (minors, included) is not part of our nation's history when it comes to tours of the WH. Maybe some of us don't think that should be happening.
Others, I suppose, would rather shut their eyes and turn the other way, just as they did with Franklin Coverup.
Washingtonpost
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
Stretching it, just to hit the "gay" word...
It is a leap... and then a leap again... to propose that this corrupt journalist has been hooking up with prostitutes in the White House.
Whether or not he hires prostitutes has nothing to do with the charges at hand.
This seems to be a desperate attempt to make tabloid-like headlines by infusing the story with a gay theme. (No, a female prostitute wouldn't be enough for such a scandal... unless she had been hired by someone more prominent than this rather unknown journalist.)
Hello?
He didn't just hire prostitutes. He was running them. He was a pimp.
facts not in evidence
You're validating this guy's point by making unsubstantiated charges.
WMD in Iraq were unsubstantiated charges.
You don't own domain names like those Guckert/Gannon had registered in his name[s] unless you intend to engage in the business of prostitution. They even accept this over at Freep. Intent is all I need to prove and you can accept that as a given, his intent to profit in some manner on this type of sexual predilection. I make no judgements with respect to what I think is none of my business anyway, what two adults may want to do in the privacy of their own homes or hotel rooms, even if there is a financial component to the transaction. It just happens to be illegal, which is idiotic in the first place. Did he actually get that far? Who cares? I'm not a court of law, I can proclaim my opinion to the world that the guy is a weird ass, nazi homosexual. They do exist, by the way, nazi skinhead homosexuals, into some seriously kinky shit. Do you want links? Trust me, you probably don't.
A couple of weeks ago
it would have been a 'leap' if we had told you that there was a 'journalist' in the WH Press Corps with no credentials; no journalism degree; and using a pseudonym - who is connected prostitution.
Prostitutes once took tours of the WH under a Bush and Reagan. Leap? I don't think so.
WMDs in Iraq was a leap.
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
You are right that it has not
You are right that it has nothing to do with the charges at hand. It does however, have everything to do with the moral hypocrisy of the religious right and their messiah, Dumbya.
The gay issue needs to be pressed because this is just about the only issue that seems to push the buttons of the evangelicals. We want them pissed too.
Gays will be targeted, not Bush
The evangelicals of whom you speak will only see this as an example of the evil effects gays have on society. If anything, it will *distract* them from the *real* crime at hand. They'll only see "gay sex" and not "criminal assassination of political enemies". Gannon will become the sole target, and Bush's part in this will be forgotten about.
Some may call it a "high horse" on my part, but I'm not keen on seeing gays becoming the new Scare, a la McCarthy's Red one.
Allow Me To Be Brutally Frank
And I don't mean to include deeply religious people who are not prone to some kind of cultist views, but some of the evangelists that you speak of, like Fred Phelps, Pat Robertson, Dobson, Falwell...who cares what they think? They don't think. That's the problem. If they do think, they think that SpongeBob is gay, or Tinky Winky. My fervent wish is that they will grow impatient waiting for the End Times or the Rapture or the Mother ship and drink the kool aid before they really get out of hand. Pardon my french, but ram it home hard about Gannon. It's true. This, on the other hand, is despicable and truly unsubstantiated rumor:
From WaPo
Notice Free Republic in this as well. Gannon was a contributor there. These people must be destroyed in any way possible; financially, economically, politically, personally, socially, any means necessary, and using the same despicable methods they use against their political opponents, all of us and our candidates. It just helps when it is true. We do have the truth on our side. This important end justifies the means. In fact, I consider it to be our patriotic duty. I will ask His forgiveness and make myself right with the Lord after we have achieved victory. If a few pseudo religious wackos get bent out of shape in the process, so much the better.
Moral Outrage and Hypocrisy
Will,
It's not about sensationalizing gay sex. In this struggle to take back what we have slowly been robbed of over the last 30 years, by both parties, you had better be ready to get down in the mud and sling it, and far worse, or you will be bending over and taking it like Gannon for the rest of your life. This is political warfare and it's a dirty business. And you don't win it by taking the moral high ground. There is no moral high ground in politics. My personal feelings are that prostitution should be decriminalized if not legalized. But in this country, right now, the businesses Gannon was engaged in are illegal all 50 states. Prostitution is legal in a few counties in Nevada.
There's intellectual dishonesty here.
It's not about "a gay sex scandal", it's about hypocrisy and illegal behavior.
My esteem for your organization has just plummeted through the floor.
I suggest that you step off your high horse before you plummet through the floor.
Gay or straight, no matter
Guckert wasn't chosen for this acting job out of nowhere. Find out with whom he "sleeps" in Washington and you unravel Bush's Watergate. My guess is that finding out Guckert's lover(s) also solves the mystery for Fitzgerald, special prosecutor in Plame.
Pillow talk. Some things never change through history, you know? The gay thing is important to me mainly in that it narrows that search field.

Yesterday I happened to have CNN on when

According to kurtz. He has no problem
with Liberal bloggers investigating
the Gannon story as long as it pertained

stuff is over the top. I am just telling
you what he said here.
According to Kurtz, there is a policy
which gives people like Gannon a
daily pass. It sounded like you have to
get it each day you go into press

considered journalists as I see
it. Do we have any good Washington

to go into press room briefing?
just a thought.
Anyway, I thought you might wish to

I hesitated at first to post this, but
does anybody read Skolnick's Report? Okay, you can take this with a grain of salt, please, even though, it's within the realm of possibility and there is alot that goes on that we never know about. Skolnick says that Bush has a male sex mate, and that people who know this are using it as blackmail against him in certain ways. Okay, I warned you. It's not something I necessarily subscribe to, but when I read this story, it did remind me of the story I read on www.skolnicksreport.com . It's in there somewhere if you scroll through the articles to find it. He's posting articles these days at Rense. I have to admit he's the one internet site that is too far out for me....but alot of what he says is true also. Anyway, maybe this will be what brings Bush down. Who knows, one can only hope. I certainly signed the petition. Yes, it's not the gay issue per se, but the hypocrisy.......It is so prevalent, isn't it amongst the right wing preachers, priests and some politicians have been caught...repuglicans, too.

Skolnick is a whackjob and a fraud
Anyone who thinks Skolnick has any credibility has very bad judgment, in my view. And a sure way for a left organization to lose credibility is to connect to people like Skolnick.

Anyone who thinks anyone has any credibilty in this bizarro world has very bad judgement. I trust me, myself and I. I have excellent judgement. I'm a professional skeptic and cynic. Don't try this at home kids. I'm an expert, you might hurt yourselves. My keen sense of perception tells me Bush is too lame to be gay.

On Sherman Skolnick
I lived in the Chicago area for much of my youth and Sherman Skolnick's charges would sometimes surface on the local news. His charges often seemed rather wacky, but not infrequently turned out to be true. Here is a website which relates a fascinating story how a tip from Skolnick led to a landmark political corruption prosecution by future Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
http://www.bsos.umd.edu/gvpt/lpbr/subpages/reviews/manaster.htm
The handling of this court case brought Stevens to the attention of the Republican Illinois senator Charles Percy who recommended Stevens to President Gerald Ford for his current Supreme Court appointment.
I, too, take what Skolnick writes with a grain of salt usually, but I would not automatically dismiss anything he said either. By the way, on Skolnick's website he claims George W. Bush's boyfriend is Victor Ash -- a Bush classmate at Yale, fellow Skull and Boner, former Mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bush appointee to the board of Fannie Mae. He also claims incredibly that John Kerry and George Bush have engaged in gay sex romps, too, as fellow Skull and Boners (according to Skolnick, this seems to be pattern among such secret club members). At one time, people would have thought it ludicrous to believe that the famous homophobe FBI director J. Edgar Hoover could possibly be homosexual, but it has been substantiated in recent years since his death. His close aide at the FBI, Clyde Tolson, another bachelor and always seen by Hoover's side, is said to have been his lover, and they were even caught together by police in a public bathhouse and apparently caught by camera.

Sorry, I've been super busy and didn't have a chance to check the
skolnick site until now. I hadn't read it before today, but he gives the details of his views of the current subject under Overthrow of the American Republic part 47. Be prepared for outrageous claims which include John Kerry and others. Fiction? Non-fiction? A mix? I don't know...butI suppose this Gannon story could be a piece of the creeping, leaking sludge this administration is trying to keep the cover on....don't know. Wouldn't be totally surprised if some parts of skolnick's reports would be true. He doesn't like Bush, et al, or the Clintons or Kerry. He seems to think that Al Gore is a good man (which I agree with) and he seems to like some of the Kennedys....but he believes some elements of the Aristocracy couldn't care less about what happens to the American public, which is not a stretch of the imagination.
