A Community Gathering honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY

Event Date: Monday, January 19, 2009

Beginning at 10:30 am and continuing throughout the day.

A full day of community events are planned to celebrate the life and work

of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Involving special guests, including

Juanita Nelson, Lee Stringer and Cynthia McKinney, the daylong events

are sponsored by organizations working locally, nationally and

internationally.

Beginning with an African American Heritage Tour of important local

sites, and following with an action-packed afternoon of interactive

programs, the day will close with a multi-faceted evening benefit at the

First Churches of Northampton, a fundraiser for the internationally

recognized Friends of the Congo and the locally celebrated Youth Action

Coalition.

On MLK Day, the day before the inauguration, we want folks to come out to Bethesda to protest Lockheed and to avenge (nonviolently) police brutality and spying.

Join Peace Action Montgomery for our annual demonstration on MLK Day, January 19, 2009.

We'll hold a spirited protest at the front gates of the corporate headquarters of the world's largest merchant of death, Lockheed Martin.

We'll be meeting at noon at the Davis Library before marching to Lockheed.

Lockheed's offices are located a few blocks away at 6801 Rockledge Drive, Bethesda MD 20817.
