Mike Moore will be discussing his important new book,
Twilight War: The Folly of U.S. Space Dominance, at
the Independent Institute in Oakland, CA, on Tuesday,
February 12, 7:00 PM. Here are the details.
Moore’s book is an indispensable contribution to an
issue often neglected: The efforts by the U.S. empire
to militarize, monopolize and weaponize space. This
could potentially spark another Cold War, and Moore,
former editor of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists,
has a unique grasp of the history, technology and
geopolitics involved. If you’re in the area, you won’t
want to miss it.

This is the week to say no more, enough!
This coming week, starting on Tuesday the 19th--the LoneVet will be in front of Rep. Blumenauer's office with one sign that says,
"HONK FOR HEARINGS."
I will be there Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the coming week to support the national effort to move our representatives to call for hearings. This will be happening all across the nation, come if you can, and if you can't then do the following:
1. Call "The Earlman's" office and ask them to tell your representative to call for the "Wexler hearings." Call everyday just in case he does see the light.
2. Call his DC office and do the same as above, be courteous, the staff works hard and only follow what the "Elitists" tell them to say.
3. Drive by 729 Oregon Street and honk your horn at me and let me know that you are also pissed by the actions of this Elitist, called the Earlman.

On Thursday evening, February 21st, CCPJ will screen a new film in Charlottesville on a very timely topic: the verifiability of U.S. elections. We'll bring the writer, director, and producer of "Uncounted," David Earnhardt, to town to show his film and then speak about it and lead a discussion.
There will be no charge for admission, and we encourage you to join us and bring along anyone who cares about how (and whether) votes are counted. The event begins at 7 p.m. at Sojourner's Church at 1017 Elliott Avenue and will include the screening of an 80-minute film.
"Uncounted" is a nonpartisan look at election fraud and error, with a focus on the elections of 2004 and 2006 and the problems created by the expanded use of DRE (directly recording electronic) voting machines. Both Charlottesville and Albemarle residents vote on DREs.
The film trailer can be viewed at http://www.uncountedthemovie.com

From Silicon Valley Impeachment Coalition
This Friday (02/22/2008) at 9AM ten of us from SVIC will meet with our favorite Congressperson -- Zoe Lofgren for 30 minutes at San Jose office. That said, it would be awesome to have other dedicated impeachment minded folks outside her office from say 8:30AM to 10AM getting as many cars to HONK as humanly possible. This way, while we're chatting with Zoe about how much other folks want Impeachment Hearings besides us, for every HONK she hears we could just smile at her.
P.S., And, as always, we would love for you to join us for our normally scheduled "Honk for Impeachment" protest Friday, RAIN or SHINE, also outside her office from 3PM to 5PM making as much noise as possible.

Stop the Theft of Iraq’s Future – Iraqi Oil for the Iraqi People
February 23 marks the one-year anniversary of the Cabinet’s passage of the Iraq Oil Law. The Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions has called for an International Day of Action on Feb 22-23. People around the world will hold actions on these days in solidarity with the people of Iraq to say NO to the oil law and NO to foreign contracts under the occupation. Take a lunch break with us on Friday, Feb 22 and join us in DC for street theatre antics, speakers and a march from Exxon to the White House. Help us connect the dots between oil and occupation!
If you live outside DC, please join in solidarity and host an action in your community!
These actions help to continue the momentum against the oil law in Iraq while bringing a strong message to the Bush Administration that we stand against their coercive tactics to push the oil law. Search here for an action in your area or sign up to host an action today!
Stop the Theft of Iraq’s Future – Iraqi Oil for the Iraqi People
In Iraq, the on-going war and occupation has led to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths, widespread devastation, relentless insecurity and crippling poverty. Foreign oil companies are scrambling to use this opportunity to secure access to massive profits from Iraq’s large untapped oil reserves at the expense of the Iraqi people.
The occupation of Iraq serves to protect these interests while US military bases are built nearby to guard the oil fields. As well, the Bush Administration has tried to push the Iraqi Parliament to pass a law that would give foreign oil companies unprecedented control over Iraq’s oil resources. The Iraqi cabinet, under pressure from the US, passed this law one year ago on February 23, 2007. The Iraqi Parliament has so far resisted pressure to pass this oil law, but the pressure is by no means over.
