Cojones Award #3: Dennis Kucinich

It's been a year since we last awarded our highly-coveted Cojones Award. But Rep. Dennis Kucinich has definitely earned one for informing House Democrats that he will soon introduce Articles of Impeachment for Dick Cheney.

Kucinich knows full well that he is defying Speaker Pelosi and the overwhelming majority of House Democrats who are terrified of Cheney, Bush, and especially Karl Rove. But Kucinich is driven by an even greater fear, that Bush-Cheney-Rove will start yet another disastrous war, this time in Iran.

Kucinich is also driven by a profound passion for peace and justice: how can Bush-Cheney-Rove not be held accountable for launching an illegal war of aggression against Iraq on the basis of pre-meditated lies? How can we bury 3,311 victims of those lies without holding accountable those who sent them to their deaths?

These are the among the many reasons why 51% of Americans support impeachment (according to the last Corporate Media poll in October) and 58% of Americans simply want the Bush presidency to be "over."

Kucinich's bold action does not come out of a vacuum. There is a large and dedicated impeachment movement led by Democrats.com, World Can't Wait, Progressive Democrats of America, Code Pink, and an outstanding coalition called Impeach07. This coalition will assemble a large group of prominent Americans at the Capitol next Wednesday to call for impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney.

We will, of course, give our heartfelt thanks to Kucinich for his leadership. But it is not enough for one Representative to fight this historic fight. A year ago, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi took impeachment "off the table" because Republicans began using the issue to "scare" voters away from electing a Democratic majority. But the American people weren't "scared" by the impeachment issue - they elected a Democratic majority anyway. It's time for Speaker Pelosi to put impeachment at the center of the House table, right where it belongs.

So we will deliver that message personally to Speaker Pelosi on Wednesday. And then we will repeat that message on April 28 with nation-wide events to spell out I-M-P-E-A-C-H. Please find the event nearest you and join us!

Dennis is looking Presidential

He is the only candidate who opposes war with Iran and who wants to bring the troops home.  While other candidates only pretend to be for peace,  Dennis really is for peace.

No other candidate would have the courage to actually do something about Dick Cheney.  Talk is cheap.  Dennis actually puts his actions where his mouth is.

peace

The next black ops attack on the U.S. will install a military dictatorship and anti-war critics will be accused of treason and become the scapegoats for the shock and awe failure about to come down on us all.The Rethugs would have one half of the population incarcerating the other half if they are not stopped.Dennis Kucinich is the man to stop them. They have a political pitbull on them that they won,t be able to walk away from.Vote Dennis 2008

He's got my vote

The heck with the other Presidential want-a-bes.

Kucinich Proves to Be THE Leader of the Progressives

Dennis Kucinich is the only progressive candidate. He is leading the way to returning to a just and free America. He is fulfilling the duties that all members of Congress have sworn to uphold to hold the administrative accountable for illegal acts. I can see no other candidate for president who has the honesty and integrity of Dennis Kucinich, when he says he supports peace he votes for peace, not to fund the war until 2009, when he say universal health care, he means no insurance companies running the show, when he says he will stand up for working families he means he will withdraw the U.S. from so called free trade agreements which encourage corporate robber barons to export good paying American jobs. There is no comparison between the corporate candidates for president and Kucinich, the choice is simple, Kucinich who works for the people or a candidate who begs for corporate money.

I'm really glad you all have a candidate so early...

that certainly is your right as citizens. That said however, for all your posturing, you collectively have failed this site by not coming up with anything Dennis has gotten passed over the past 6 years. On this site, and others, Kucinich supporters are about equally made up of Greens, Other Lefts, and some sort of Dems--quality unknown. This amalgamated group tells us all what a giant of a guy Dennis is, how presidential he looks and sounds, and all the rest of that claptrap that really has no meaning. So now, I ask you agaiin, what has Dennis accomplished in the past 6 years--other than changing from pro-life to pro-choice...or at least stating that his SCOTUS appointments will not receive a litmus test of Choice/anti Choice. Matter of fact, few of the Dennis supporters have ever discussed other candidates in any sort of 'what if' situation. Many of your group have clearly stated that you will ONLY vote for Dennis...and that you will not vote for any other candidate. The primary hasn't really started yet and your collective minds are already made up. So tell us all, just exactly what Dennis has done that has had any effect on politics over the past 6 years. Examine Dennis under the same magnifying glass that you have all obviously put the other 'wanna-be's' under. Compare his many virtues with those of the other candidates. As a liberal, I would vote for Dennis if he were nominated. Something he is not likely to get(past track record). Other potential candidates are Gore and Kerry(making campaign noises again)among others.

Now Dennis was ready to file his impeachment papers against Cheney. But, as yet, he has not filed the previous claim that he had papers ready for both Bush and Cheney. When will Dennis actually do something?

Grinch, if we're lucky the Mike Gravel crowd (all 12 of them) will begin to inundate us with their candidate's qualities in the near future...;-)

Bill, that would be a nice change...

I have noted that one of the Kucinich devotees is an AmericaFirsters. The group that did so badly under Lucky Lindy in the 40s. Isolationists they are. Used to be about 300,000 of them centered around Chicago.

It appears that they have

It appears that they have moved their "center" to CA...

In Real world, all our outspoken Dems are heroes,

Patrick Leahy, John Conyers, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Sheila Jackson Lee, Woolsey, and others.  My hats off to you, for doing your jobs as the People's voice.

I don't believe because of his cajones, that he will get the support from both sides when campaigning for president, unless he has a strong ticket runner with him to pull him from oblivia to first or second place.  But if he get them out of there, I nominate him for Saint!

Perhaps after we get Iraq withdrawl straight?  It is a start to a long list of accountablility the people are demanding, will george heed the voice?

In all his arrogance and stubborness, I say he will go down kicking and screaming the likes of the Wicked Witch of the West in OZ.

The Idea that Principles Come First

I am confident of my support for Dennis Kucinich for a number of reasons and one is his voting record while serving in the U.S. Congress. He had a 98% rating by the Ohio AFL-CIO in 2006 for voting on issues affecting working families, the Peace Action group gave him 100% voting records on his voting record on the war and he voted against going to war and has voted against every appropriation bill for funding the war. I see the other candidates voting in favor of war appropriates and calling that a peace plan, Kucinich puts it very simply, if you want peace vote for peace. Unfortunately the corporate media and even other non corporate political sites on the internet suppress the Kucinich message and try to marginalize him as a candidate. He came in 2nd in the MoveOn poll and he is in second place on this site's poll. Dennis Kucinich has been elected for five terms by the people of northern Ohio, so I don't buy into the claims put out by those who oppose a real peace candidate that he is unelectable. Suppression of his message is the problem. The majority of Americans want the war ended now not a year or two from now when hundreds more American G.I.s and Iraqi civilians will have died. It appears some fear facing up to a honest candidate with a voting record that matches what his platform calls for. Kucinich did the research prior to the war and knew the Bush regime was lying then. He performed his duties a member of the House of Representatives at that time and is going to do his duty on April 25th when he brings impeachment charges against Cheney. He has courage to stand by principle and do the right thing. When saying he is unelectable, try asking people you know if they want someone who stands on their principles or someone who votes after reviewing what the polls say.
